Well... does everyone feel safer today?

(*SNORT*)

Hey... folks... America 2013. We're treated like children... and apparently that's how most of us like it.

China has deployed near Taiwan a powerful missile designed to take out U.S. aircraft carriers as Beijing strengthens its ability to prevent US forces from aiding Taiwan during potential conflict.

* NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT... OBVIOUSLY OUR CARRIERS ARE NEARLY INVULNERABLE... OR ELSE WHY WOULD WE STILL BE RELYING UPON THEM?

The deployment of the DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile comes as China’s army develops greater long-range and offensive capabilities. Those advances pose a challenge to U.S. forces as Washington looks to build up its military presence in east Asia to balance out China’s rising might.

* THANK GOD WE'RE MORE THAN CAPABLE OF TAKING DOWN THE CHINESE...

U.S. military officials have said previously that the U.S. lacks a tested way to defend its aircraft carriers against the missile.

* ER... UMM... OOPS...

* OH... SHIT...?

The Obama administration’s announcement that it would question the Boston Marathon bombing suspect for a period without first reading him the Miranda warning...

* IS ITSELF AN ACT OF ILLEGALITY. (BUT MORE ON THAT LATER...)

...of his right to remain silent and have a lawyer present...

* UH... THE "KID" IS 19 YEARS OLD... HAS BASICALLY BEEN RAISED IN AMERICA... I'M GUESSING HE'S WELL AWARE OF HIS MIRANDA RIGHTS TO BEGIN WITH. THE QUESTION THUS BECOMES... WHAT DO THE "SUSPECT'S" INTEROGATORS DO IF/WHEN HE ENVOKES HIS MIRANDA RIGHTS...

(*SMIRK*)

...has revived a constitutionally charged debate over the handling of terrorism cases in the criminal justice system.

The administration’s effort to stretch a gap in the Miranda rule for questioning about immediate threats to public safety has alarmed advocates of individual rights.

* NOW THEY'RE ALARMED...?!?!

(*SNORT*)

Anthony Romero, the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, said it would be acceptable for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to ask the suspect, Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, a naturalized American citizen, about “imminent” threats, like whether other bombs are hidden around Boston. But he said that once the F.B.I. gets into broader questioning, it must not “cut corners.”

* THE "ASKING" ISN'T THE PROBLEM. THE QUESTION IS... WHAT HAPPENS WHEN TSARNAEV UTTERS THE WORD "LAWYER?"

(*SMIRK*)

At the other end of the spectrum, some conservatives have called for treating terrorism-related cases — even those arising on American soil or involving citizens — as a military matter, holding a suspect indefinitely as an “enemy combatant” without a criminal defendants’ rights. Two Republican senators, John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, called for holding Mr. Tsarnaev under the laws of war, interrogating him without any Miranda warning or defense lawyer.

* AS WE ALL KNOW, MCCAIN AND GRAHAM ARE FOOLS... FOOLS WHO NEITHER UNDERSTAND NOR FEEL CONTRAINED BY OUR CONSTITUTION.

* LISTEN... THE CONSTITUTION SETS OUT HOW TO DEAL WITH TREASON. THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM SETS OUT HOW TO DEAL WITH CRIME. IF THEY'RE GONNA CHARGE TSARNAEY WITH TREASON THEN FINE! BUT IF NOT...

(*SHRUG*)

* LISTEN... FOLKS... NONE OF THIS IS ROCKET SCIENCE. EITHER WE'RE A NATION UNDER A CONSTITUTIONAL RULE OF LAW... OR WE'RE NOT.

In light of the recent events in Boston, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani told Face the Nation’s Bob Schieffer that it is important to recognize these sorts of attacks are part of a grander war in the eyes of the attackers.

“The reality is whether we want to call this a war on terror, they call this a war on us,” Giuliani said.

“These two young men joined a war. If you look at their website, they’re talking about jihad, they’re talking about war, so they are at war against us.”

“Also, I think it would be very helpful to reclassify the Major Hassan case as a terrorism attack,” Giuliani said of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. “It’s really kind of strange, and I think harmful in the effort of kind of breaking through this political correctness so that we can analyze this effectively, not to describe Major Hassan’s attack” as terrorism, he added.

The Defense Department classified the shooting as an incident of “workplace violence.”

* THE OBAMA DEFENSE DEPARTMENT...

* JUST AS IT WAS THE OBAMA FBI WHICH INVESTIGATED TAMERLAN TSARNAEY AND FOUND... NOTHING INCRIMINATING.
