I've already got the day's first two newsbites ready to publish... and these two newsbites alone are enough to blacken my day.

President Barack Obama is sending Congress a $3.77 trillion spending blueprint that seeks to achieve an elusive "grand bargain" to tame runaway deficits by raising taxes further on the wealthy and trimming popular benefit programs such as Social Security.

* NOTICE A FEW THINGS, FOLKS: 1) AP REPORT; 2) NO MENTION OF WHAT REVENUES OBAMA "OFFICIALLY" EXPECTS, THEREFORE NO CONTEXT WITH REGARD TO WHAT THE DEFICIT SPENDING IS EXPECTED TO BE UNDER OBAMA'S PROPOSED BUDGET; 3) SOCIAL SECURITY IS SEPARATE FROM THE FEDERAL OPERATING BUDGET. (AND AP KNOWS THIS!)

The president's proposal being unveiled Wednesday includes an additional $1.8 trillion in deficit reduction over the next decade, bringing total deficit savings to $4.3 trillion, based on the administration's calculations.

* BASED... ON... THE... ADMINISTRATION'S... CALCULATIONS...

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

* FOLKS...

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

It projects that the deficit for the 2014 budget year, which begins Oct. 1, would fall to $744 billion. That would be the lowest gap between spending and revenue since 2008.

* FOLKS... ASSUMING FOR THE SAKE OF DISCUSSION THAT THE PRESIDENT'S MATH CAN BE TRUSTED... HIS "BUDGET" CALLS FOR $744 BILLION IN DEFICIT SPENDING - NEW BORROWING... NEW DEBT - NEXT YEAR!

The president's spending and tax plan is two months late.

* NOTHING NEW...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2306688/Obama-2014-budget-analysis-Numbers-based-imagined-spending-cuts-middle-class-tax-hike.html

* THIS FROM THE UK DAILY MAIL...

Early analysis: Obama's 2014 budget numbers are based on bad math, phantom revenues, imagined spending cuts and a middle-class tax hike

* YEP... THAT'S THE HEADLINE.

White House promises $1.8 trillion in deficit reduction, although similar previous claims have been debunked

New method of measuring cost-of-living increases will lower benefit payouts and push middle-class earners into higher tax brackets

Speaker Boehner's spokesperson: 'Any deficit reduction will come exclusively from tax hikes'

Administration's formula depends on cost savings from ObamaCare, which may be more costly to implement than previously thought

* AND THOSE ARE THE SUBHEADERS...

(*SIGH*)

The budget will hit congressional offices less than 24 hours after the government's top watchdog agency declared that nearly $100 billion was wasted last year in duplicative and overlapping programs stretching into every corner of the Washington bureaucracy.

* FOLKS... I URGE YOU TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE, BUT IN THE MEANTIME LET ME SKIP TO THE TRUE BOTTOM LINE:

Federal budgets are configured along what's called a 'baseline,' providing a predetermined level of year-on-year increases that Congress has set on auto-pilot...

* YEP. AND UNTIL THIS PRACTICE ENDS... (*SHRUG*)... THEN WE'RE STUCK CHASING OUR OWN TAILS - WHICH IS WHAT THE POLITICIANS AND MEDIA WANT!

The $1.4 trillion in cuts were merely reductions in those planned rates of spending increases.

* AND THAT'S WITH - FOR THE SAKE OF DISCUSSION - PRETENDING THAT THERE REALLY ARE $1.4 TRILLION IN "CUTS" TO THE INCREASES... OVER THE NEXT TEN YEARS!

The $1.8 trillion in new savings promised by the Obama White House in Tuesday's embargoed outline include '$400 billion in health savings that build on the health reform law.'

* NOTICE, FOLKS... SOMETIMES THEY TALK ABOUT $1.8 BILLION... OTHER TIMES THEY REFER TO $1.4 BILLION... (*ROLLING MY EYES*)

* HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE:

The public debt now stands at roughly $17 trillion, up $6 trillion from the debt when Obama took office in 2009.

* WHAT WILL THE DEBT BE AT THE END OF OBAMA'S SECOND TERM...??? (YOU'LL GET NO ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION FROM THE ARTICLE... BUT YOU KNOW THE ESTIMATES EXIST!)

http://reason.com/blog/2013/04/09/survey-of-over-15000-cops-finds-nearly-a

The law-enforcement support site PoliceOne.com has released the results of a massive survey in which "more than 15,000 verified law enforcement professionals" were asked 30 questions about current gun control proposals. The results may surprise you.

"Contrary to what the mainstream media and certain politicians would have us believe," writes Police One Editor in Chief Doug Wyllie, "police overwhelmingly favor an armed citizenry, would like to see more guns in the hands of responsible people, and are skeptical of any greater restrictions placed on gun purchase, ownership, or accessibility."

The most telling results are these:

"Virtually all respondents (95%) say that a federal ban on manufacture and sale of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds would not reduce violent crime."

"The majority of respondents — 71% — say a federal ban on the manufacture and sale of some semi-automatics would have no effect on reducing violent crime. However, more than 20% say any ban would actually have a negative effect on reducing violent crime. (Just over 7% took the opposite stance, saying they believe a ban would have a moderate to significant effect.")

"About 85% of officers say the passage of the White House’s currently proposed legislation would have a zero or negative effect on their safety, with just over 10% saying it would have a moderate or significantly positive effect."

"Seventy percent (70%) of respondents say they have a favorable or very favorable opinion of some law enforcement leaders’ public statements that they would not enforce more restrictive gun laws in their jurisdictions. Similarly, more than 61% said they would refuse to enforce such laws if they themselves were Chief or Sheriff."

"More than 28% of officers say having more permissive concealed carry policies for civilians would help most in preventing large scale shootings in public, followed by more aggressive institutionalization for mentally ill persons (about 19%) and more armed guards/paid security personnel (about 15%)."
