In broad daylight, thieves stole flat screens from Rent-A-Center. Others
swiped top shelf booze from Joann’s Discount Wine and Liquors.
The thieves started down Mermaid Avenue Tuesday morning as the chest-high water receded, turning the seaside community known for its hotdogs and tourist attractions into a lawless free-for-all.
[The] wave a looters followed the Sandy storm surge in Coney Island, creating a double-whammy for business owners trying to pick up the obliterated pieces. "People were running in and out of Rent-A-Center carrying these big flat screens. They were holding on tight," said witness Aisha John, 20. "I couldn't understand how someone could steal a big TV in broad daylight, but no one cared.”
She said people were running out of a nearby Rite Aid with bags of diapers and wipes.
Not "people." Animals.
"Look, they've been looting our wallets for too long," said a young male who claimed he helped himself to a TV at the Rent-A-Center.

“It's about time we start taking this shit back," the youth, who identified himself as Jesse James, told the Daily News.
"Jesse James" needs a bullet in his head. Understand folks... the cops aren't gonna help you if the animals get to your neighborhood. Government isn't going to save you or your family.
"It was complete lawlessness,” said Ron Troyano, owner of Joann’s Discount Wine and Liquors on Mermaid Ave. He said looters used tools to bust through his steel security gates around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Ron should have been prepared for this. Indeed, we should all be prepared to deal with these animals.
The thieves then shattered his storefront and helped themselves to thousands of dollars worth of top shelf liquor, he said.
He should have been prepared. He should have been armed. He should have protected his store and by doing so helped to protect civilization itself.
"They pried open the gate, broke the glass and went straight for the Hennessy and Grey Goose,” he said.
You can't pry open a gate with a bullet in your brain.
Police got a measure of control around 4 p.m. Tuesday, but two cops positioned outside Joann’s into the night failed to stop more looters from sneaking in through the roof, Troyano told The News.

"They broke right in through the roof while the cops were standing outside. It's unbelievable. They were passing bottles down to each other from the roof," he said.
Were these cops instructed not to interfere... not to use force to protect property? If not... then have they been suspended pending dismissal for gross incompetence?
Troyano said between the flooding and the plundering, his losses were too high to easily calculate. He said he’s not sure when he’ll re-open."We are supposed to come together as a community during times of crisis, not pick at each other like vultures," he said. "Next time I'm getting a gun."
Yep. (The only thing is... will County/City/State government allow him to exercise his Constitutional Rights...?)
Looters also hit The Fresh Market five blocks down. "They destroyed everything. They stole anything they could get their hands on. Someone even ran off with the cash register," said employee Fernando Mendoza as he picked up pieces of broken glass Wednesday.
"It was a mob of people. Fifty to a hundred. They were just running down the street grabbing anything that wasn't nailed down," he said.
And you people don't think America is in deep decline? Can you imagine how much looting there's been that the authorities have covered up - with the cooperation of the liberal media?
"They were literally walking out with shopping carts full of merchandise. They didn't even look worried,” a Rite Aid employee who declined to give her name told The News. They looked like they were casually shopping," she said. "They looked almost happy. I saw an elderly lady walking away with batteries and a bag of Kit Kats.”
Again, people... there's a thin - and ever-growing thinner - veneer of civilization protecting honest citizens from the predators amongst us. And there are literally millions of predators and would-be predators out there folks... just waiting... waiting for their opportunity to strike.

New York state on Wednesday asked the U.S. federal government to pay all the costs of cleaning up and repairing damage from massive storm Sandy that tore through the Northeast this week and crippled New York City.

That would be a significant change from last year when the federal government covered about 75% of the $1.2 billion cost paid by New York to clean up after storm Irene hit the region.

Two-thirds of those who have found employment under President Obama are immigrants, both legal and illegal, according to an analysis [by the Immigration Research Center] that suggests immigration has soaked up a large portion of what little job growth there has been over the past three years.
“It’s extraordinary that most of the employment growth in the last four years has gone to the foreign-born, but what’s even more
extraordinary is the issue has not even come up during a presidential election that is so focused on jobs,” said Steven A. Camarota, the Immigration Research Center's research director, who wrote the report along with demographer Karen Zeigler.
His numbers are stark: Since the first quarter of 2009, the number of immigrants of working age (16 to 65) who are employed has risen 2 million, from 21.2 million to 23.2 million. During the same time, native-born employment has risen just 1 million, to reach 119.9 million.

In 2000, 76% of native-born Americans aged 18 to 65 were employed, but that dropped steadily to 69% this September.
By contrast, immigrants started the last decade at 71% employment and rose to a peak of 74% at the height of the George W. Bush-era economic boom. (They since have slid down to 69% amid the sluggish economy.)
Mr. Camarota’s numbers show that most of the immigrant employment growth went to new arrivals, not to foreign-born residents already in the United States - a figure that suggests immigrants already settled here were having some of the same difficulties as the native-born Americans.
There is some bright news: an uptick over the past year among native-born Americans accounting for two-thirds of all new employment
growth.

As he left his Marine One helicopter Wednesday evening and walked to the residence of the White House, President Obama did not respond to a question shouted out by ABC News’s Mary Bruce about when he would begin to provide answers to the numerous questions building up about what exactly what went wrong in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012.
The president smiled and continued walking.
[This latest episode serves to] underline the apparent strategy the president specifically and his administration in general have seemed to adopt when it comes to the myriad inquiries about the decisions that led to the deaths of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens: they are deferring detailed answers to the investigation and – critics say –running out the clock until Election Day.

The Washington Post’s respected foreign policy columnist David Ignatius just yesterday posed “Lingering Questions about Benghazi.” One of them, pointedly, was “At a time when al-Qaeda was strengthening its presence in Libya and across North Africa, why didn’t the United States have more military hardware nearby?”

In the place of a detailed description from the Obama administration about what happened more than six weeks ago comes the drip-drip-drip of stories about the failures of the Obama administration to provide those Americans on the ground in Libya with all the security assets they needed.
ABC News broke some stories on this, ranging from a security team being denied continued use of an airplane its commander wanted to keep in country to better do his job; to the security team leaving Libya before Ambassador Stevens wanted it to.

Fox News Channel’s Catherine Herridge last night reported on a newly discovered cable indicating that in August, less than a month before the attack, the diplomatic post in Benghazi convened an “emergency meeting” concerned about local Al Qaeda training camps. Said the cable: “RSO (Regional Security Officer) expressed concerns with the ability to defend Post in the event of a coordinated attack due to limited manpower, security measures, weapons capabilities, host nation support, and the overall size of the compound.”
The cable stated that “In light of the uncertain security environment, US Mission Benghazi will submit specific requests to US Embassy Tripoli for additional physical security upgrades and staffing needs by separate cover.”

This afternoon, journalists Harald Doornbos and Jenan Moussa in Foreign Policy Magazine reported that when they arrived at the compound in Benghazi on October 26 they found “several ash-strewn documents beneath rubble in the looted Tactical Operations Center, one of the four main buildings of the partially destroyed compound. Some of the documents — such as an email from Stevens to his political officer in Benghazi and a flight itinerary sent to Sean Smith, a U.S. diplomat slain in the attack — are clearly marked as State Department correspondence. Others are unsigned printouts of messages to local and national Libyan authorities. The two unsigned draft letters are both dated Sept. 11 and express strong fears about the security situation at the compound on what would turn out to be a tragic day. They also indicate that Stevens and his team had officially requested additional security at the Benghazi compound for his visit — and that they apparently did not feel it was being provided.”

A Sept. 11 missive to the head of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that on that morning, “one of our diligent guards made a troubling report. Near our main gate, a member of the police force was seen in the upper level of a building across from our compound. It is reported that this person was photographing the inside of the U.S. special mission and furthermore that this person was part of the police unit sent to protect the mission. The police car stationed where this event occurred was number 322.”
On Air Force One today, White House press secretary Jay Carney was asked by ABC News how closely the President is reading and following the media reports about what went wrong in Benghazi. “Is he engaged in the investigation and receiving updates on the investigation, or is he waiting until it’s complete?” ABC News’ Devin Dwyer asked.
Carney noted that since the “investigations are being conducted by both the FBI and the Accountability Review Board” the president himself “is not participating in the investigation.

The White House press secretary – who has not held a full-fledged briefing with the White House press corps since October 12 – said that the president “expects the investigations to be rigorous. He is extremely focused on making sure that we find exactly what happened and who was responsible, and tracking down those who were responsible and bringing them to justice.”
