Election Day: Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Well, folks... here we are.

Election Day 2012.

I just voted.

Straight Republican... across the board.

(*SHRUG*)

Hated to do it, folks...

Hated voting for my long-serving NYS Senator Bill Larkin.

Hated voting for the GOP candidate for my NYS Assembly seat.

Hated voting for my RINO Congresswoman Nan Hayworth.

Hated voting for the GOP judgeship candidates simply because New York State forbids any sort of meaningful policy campaigning for judicial positions.

The system is what it is. Unless and until the Tea Party takes over the GOP the GOP will be simply the lesser of two evils when it comes to our corrupt two-party system.

No, folks... going to a multiparty system wouldn't help - it would actually make things worse. Human nature is the problem and until more good people get more involved in the nuts and bolts of party politics we're stuck with the unpleasant choices given us by the current leaderships of the two parties.

In any case... if today's vote confirms my hope that the lesser of two evils wins...

(*SMILE*)

That Romney-Ryan win...

and if the GOP can recapture the Senate...

(*SHRUG*)

Then America will gain a short breathing space from which to regroup.

Folks... even under the best possible scenario... saving America is a long-shot. (That's how far we've fallen...)

If Romney-Ryan are sworn in to office come January... if the Senate becomes a Republican Senate once again... count on me to be just as honest, just as cynical, and just as biting as I've been during the past four years.

Anyway... if you haven't voted yet, go out and do so. And then...

PRAY

A Pennsylvania judge is issuing an order to reinstate Republican election officials across Philadelphia who allegedly were ejected or refused entry by on-site Democratic voting chief judges, GOP officials tell Fox News.

* FOLKS... WHILE I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT ELECTION FRAUD OCCURS ON BOTH SIDES... I ALSO HAVE NO DOUBT THAT IN TERMS OF SHEER NUMBERS... THERE'S MUCH, MUCH, MUCH MORE DEMOCRATIC FRAUD.

* A BIT OF HUMOR... AND A BIT OF THE OLD AMERICAN SPIRIT!

DES MOINES, Iowa -- President Barack Obama is planning an outdoor rally here on Monday, but one store within the event's security zone is taking a stand against Secret Service searches inside the shop.

A sign on the window of Raygun, a clothing store that sells quirky T-shirts, tells Secret Service agents who intend to "sweep" the premises before Obama's speech that it does "not consent" to any searches.

The sign also added a little humor, too: "It's not that there's anything illegal in here, we just employ several Colombian prostitutes and don't want to tempt you guys," the sign reads, a reference to news reports earlier this year about some agents who had solicited prostitutes in South America.

The Obama campaign was not amused.

A store clerk told Yahoo News that the sign went up Monday morning, and Obama staffers have asked for its removal. The store is refusing.

Update 6:45 PM: The sign was removed from the window before Obama's rally started Monday evening.

* THREE-PARTER... (Part 1 of 3)

http://www.humanevents.com/2012/11/06/buchanan-the-coming-age-of-austerity/

* BY PATRICK J. BUCHANAN

Between 1946 and 1964, 79 million babies were born - the largest, best-educated and most successful generation in our history.

The problem: Assume that 75 million of these 79 million boomers survive to age 66.This means that from this year through 2030, an average of nearly 4 million boomers will be retiring every year.

This translates into some 11,000 boomers becoming eligible for Medicare and Social Security every single day for the next 18 years.

Add in immigrants in that same age category and the fact that baby boomers live longer than the Greatest Generation or Silent Generation seniors, and you have an immense and unavoidable increase coming in expenditures for our largest entitlement programs.

(*SHRUG*)

Benefits will have to be curbed or cut and payroll taxes will have to rise, especially for Medicare, to make good on our promises to seniors.

As for the rest of our federal budget of nearly $4 trillion, we have run four consecutive deficits of over $1 trillion.

* JUST PONDER THAT FOR A MOMENT... CONSIDER WHAT THIS SAYS ABOUT OUR ABILITY TO PAY FOR WHAT WE SPEND NOW - LET ALONE EVER-INCREASING SPENDING!

To bring that budget to balance, freezes would have to be imposed and cuts made in spending for defense and other social programs.

* WE PRESENTLY DON'T HAVE POLITICIANS IN POWER WILLING TO DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. (AND, YEAH... I'M INCLUDING ROMNEY IN THAT STATEMENT!)

* CONTINUING... (Part 2 of 3)

From California to Wisconsin to New York, we see the process at work at the state level. Government salaries are frozen, government payrolls are cut, government pensions and programs are scaled back.

* AND YET THEY'RE STILL ADDING DEBT VIA NEW BOND ISSUES!

California and Illinois are on the precipice of default. Cities like Detroit, Birmingham, Stockton and San Bernardino are already there.

(*NOD*)

As for national defense, how long can we afford to spend more than the 10 other top nations combined? How long can we continue to defend scores of nations half a world away? How many more trillion-dollar wars like Iraq and Afghanistan can we fight on borrowed money?

(*NOD*)

Europe has arrived at where we are headed. In the south of the old continent - Spain, Italy and Greece - the new austerity has begun to imperil the social order.

In the north, the disposition to be taxed to pay for other nations’ social safety nets is disappearing.

With government in the U.S. at all levels consuming 40% of gross domestic product, and taxes 30%, taxes will have to rise and government spending be controlled or cut. The alternative is to destroy the debt by depreciating the dollars in which it is denominated - i.e., by Fed-induced inflation.

* WHICH IS WHAT THEY'VE BEEN DOING... BUT BUCHANAN IS REFERRING TO NEW WAVES OF INFLATION THAT WILL MAKE THE INFLATION OF THE PAST SEVEN YEARS LOOK LIKE A MERE BLIP!

(But you can only rob your creditors once. After that, they never trust you again.)

* CONCLUDING... (Part 3 of 3)

There is another social development rarely discussed. The workers who are replacing retiring baby boomers in the labor force are increasingly minorities. Black folks and Hispanics alone account now for 30% of the population - and rising rapidly. Yet these two minorities have high school dropout rates of up to 50% in many cities, and many who do graduate have math, reading and science scores at seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade levels.

* BUMPER STICKER: "REALITY IS REALITY!"

Can their contributions to an advanced economy be as great as were those of baby boomers of the ’60s and ’70s, whose SAT scores were among the highest we ever recorded?

(*PURSED LIPS*)

U.S. scores in global competition have been plummeting toward Third World levels.

* IN LARGE PART BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN IMPORTING THE THIRD WORLD INTO AMERICA!

Everyone talks about how we are going to raise test scores. But, despite record and rising investments in education per student, no one
in decades has found a way to do this consistently.

* AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW THIS... WELL... APPARENTLY YOU'RE NOT A REGULAR "USUALLY RIGHT" READER.

Moreover, while boomers were almost all born into families where mother and father were married and living together, Hispanics have a 53% illegitimacy rate - African-Americans a 73% rate.

* AGAIN... IF YOU WEREN'T ALREADY AWARE OF THIS...

(*SIGH*)

Among the white poor and working class, the illegitimacy rate is now 40% — almost twice as high as it was in black America when Pat
Moynihan wrote his 1965 report on the crisis of the black family.

* FOLKS... CONNECT THE DOTS... FOR GOD'S SAKE, RECOGNIZE REALITY!

And between the illegitimacy rate and the drug-use rate, dropout rate, crime rate and incarceration rate, the correlation is absolute.

* IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT "CORRELATION" IS... LOOK IT UP.

(*RUEFUL CHUCKLE*)

Some of us are often accused of always “crying wolf.” But it is worth noting that...

(*PAUSE*)

...one day the wolf came.

* BY THE HON. RON PAUL (R-TX)

Hurricane Sandy was one of the worst natural disasters the east coast has ever seen. Clean-up and recovery will take months, if not years and estimates run in the tens of billions of dollars.

Parts of New York and New Jersey will never be the same.

Entire seashore communities have been wiped out, but the determination to rebuild has been lauded as courageous and admirable.

* BUT...

* BUT... BUT... BUT...

Yet as with all natural disasters, Sandy raises uncomfortable questions about the extent to which taxpayers should fund the clean-up and the extent to which government programs create moral hazards.

For example, FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) are expected to pick up the tab for much of the flood damage caused by the hurricane. Of course this will mean more federal debt and inflation for the rest of us, since the program only has about $4 billion to work with and is already $18 billion in debt from hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

* IF YOU'RE READING THESE NUMBERS FOR THE FIRST TIME... (*PAUSE*)... ASK YOURSELF "WHY?"

Many think there is a need for the government to provide flood insurance of this kind. After all, the market would never provide insurance in flood prone areas at an affordable price.

But shouldn't that tell us something?

* YES...!!!

Shouldn't that tell us that it is a losing proposition to insure homes in coastal areas and flood plains often threatened by severe and destructive weather patterns?

* YES...!!!

And if it’s a losing proposition, should taxpayers subsidize the inevitable losses arising from federal flood insurance?

* NO...!!! NO WE SHOULDN'T...!!!

Recklessly taking unwise risks when risk is under-priced is known as moral hazard.

When politicians decide that private insurance premiums are too high, as with houses built in flood plains, the solution is to under price the risk through federal subsidies.

* MEANING TAKING MONEY FROM ME AND YOU TO SUBSIDIZE OTHER PEOPLE'S SHORE HOUSES!

The obvious and expected outcome is more danger to life and limb when disaster strikes.

(*NOD*)

Many assume it is compassionate to entrust government central planners with disaster recovery. However, the greatest compassion brings results, not just good intentions.
