Weekend Newsbites: Sat. & Sun., August 11 & 12, 2012

Well, folks... I just woke fired up the ol' computer and discovered Romney has chosen Paul Ryan to be his running mate.

Good pick!

While I have my problems with Ryan, I'm still rather thrilled with the pick.

First of all, Ryan is indeed a true fiscal conservative. Indeed, I'm hopeful that from the perch of the Vice-Presidency he'll change tack with regard to how he deals with Boehner and McConnell and instead of "cooperating" with them to the point where his ideals are the ones watered down, it'll be the RINOs in the House and Senate who will be forced to "up their game" with regard to actual policy victories.

Second of all... Romney is gonna need a VP with real, high level Washington D.C. cesspool experience.

(*SHRUG*)

Folks... as I've said again and again, year after year, Congress - whether controlled by Democrats or Republicans - is the real problem with regard to the fiscal insanity that is destroying America from within.

In order to combat this "enemy within," President Romney is going to need a right hand man who knows which buttons to push in order to refocus House and Senate Republicans on saving the country... as opposed to feathering their own nests and "saving" their own careers, status, and position.

Third of all... Romney will learn a lot from Ryan. If anyone will be able to get reality through Romney's thick skull, it's Ryan. (Plus... I have a feeling that Ryan will welcome advice coming the likes of Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul and of course DeMint, Lee, Rand Paul... et al. Thus... this advice will find it's way to Romney.)

Bottom line... Yep... as of this morning I'm more enthusiastic about the Romney candidacy than I've ever been.

Weighing in on the controversial “cancer ad,” Sarah Palin is accusing members of the press of “prostituting” themselves by failing to point out alleged collaboration between President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign and a super PAC backing his reelection.

* FIRST OF ALL... "CONTROVERSIAL" ISN'T THE WORD I OR ANY REASONABLE PERSON WOULD USE. THE WORD POLITICO SHOULD HAVE USED IS "DISGUSTING."

* SECOND OF ALL... GO, SARAH, GO! GOD BLESS YOU SARAH PALIN! IF ONLY THE AVERAGE REPUBLICAN ELECTED OFFICIAL OR POLITICAL INSIDER HAD HALF OF YOUR INTEGRITY, KNOWLEDGE, AND GRIT!

* QUOTING PALIN:

"Some of these reporters who know the truth about this situation because they were in the room, in the press conference, or teleconference room listening to this — I think you said it was back in May — and now they’re watching this ad play out from the super PAC, they know what happened, and I don’t know how they can sleep at night."

* CONTINUING TO QUOTE PALIN:

"They’re basically prostituting themselves for a job, for interview, for access to the Obama administration and the campaign. And they’re letting this go on, and it is illegal. It violates the PAC laws. What I would like to see happen is for just one reporter in the mainstream media who knows the truth about this to stand up and do the worthy and ethical thing and let Americans know that there was collaboration and also that this is a far-fetched, despicable ad that misrepresents Governor Romney’s position."

* GO, SARAH, GO!

Palin...was referring to an ad from Priorities USA Action, which questionably links the decision by a Bain-owned steel company to lay off an Indiana worker to that man’s wife’s death from cancer years later.

* "QUESTIONABLY." GOTTA LUV POLITICO! (*SNICKER*)

The Obama campaign initially claimed not to know the story of Joe Soptic’s story, even though he was featured on a campaign conference call in May and in a campaign television ad. The Obama team eventually acknowledged they knew who Soptic was.

* IN OTHER WORDS... (*DRUM ROLL*)... THEY LIED.

Rep. Allen West, R-Palm Beach Gardens...

* AND A BLACK MAN...

...says an ad that depicts him punching white women plays on racial stereotypes and would make liberals “apoplectic” if a Republican ran it against a black Democrat.

(*SHRUG*)

* DOES ANYONE DOUBT HE'S CORRECT?

The ad blasts West’s stances on seniors, women’s health and tax issues by showing a cartoonish likeness of West in boxing gloves slugging an elderly woman and a younger woman who are white and punching a black family and grabbing the family’s cash.

“Think if the Republican Party or some conservative PAC ran a picture of a black Democrat politician or congressman punching white women and white seniors. I’m sure that MSNBC, NBC and the Huffington Post and everyone would be going apoplectic right now,” West said on Fox News.

(*SHRUG*)

* AGAIN... DOES ANYONE DOUBT HE'S CORRECT?

[A]n NAACP official said he didn’t find the 30-second spot to be racially offensive.

(*SMIRK*)

NAACP Washington Bureau Director Hilary O. Shelton, the organization’s chief federal lobbyist, said he watched the ad three or four times.

“It is a typical campaign ad,” said Shelton. “I don’t see it playing on stereotypes.”

(*SNORT*)

* AGAIN, FOLKS... THIS ISN'T A BIG DEAL IN AND OF ITSELF. POLITICS IS A ROUGH BUSINESS. I FIND THE OBAMA ADS THAT JUST PLAIN LIE FAR MORE "OFFENSIVE." THE THING IS... THE DOUBLE STANDARD... THEY SHEER HYPOCRISY... THAT'S WHAT MAKES THIS STORY NEWSBITE-WORTHY.
