President Barack Obama signed a wide-ranging defense bill into law Saturday despite having "serious reservations" about provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists.

* FOLKS... READ THE FULL ARTICLE. AT THIS POINT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S IN OR OUT OF THE BILL. FOR EXAMPLE:

The administration...pushed Congress to change a provision that would have denied U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism the right to trial and could have subjected them to indefinite detention.

* CHANGED HOW...??? NOTICE... THE ARTICLE DOESN'T SPECIFY. (*SHRUG*) KIND OF IMPORTANT LITTLE "DETAIL," WOULDN'T YOU AGREE? AND YET... NO CLARIFICATION.

Lawmakers eventually dropped the military custody requirement for U.S. citizens or lawful U.S. residents.

* "REQUIREMENT." (MEANING IT'S STILL AN OPTION, I ASSUME!)

"My administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens," Obama said in the signing statement. "Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation."

* NOTE: "WILL NOT."

* HE'S NOT SAYING HE DOESN'T HAVE THE CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY... HE'S JUST MAKING A PLEDGE NOT TO USE IT. (AND WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH STOCK WE CAN PUT IN OBAMA'S PLEDGES!)

* NOTE: "BREAK WITH OUR MOST IMPORTANT TRADITIONS AND VALUES...."

The most consequential election in our lifetime is still 10 months away, but it’s clear from the Obama administration’s order halting South Carolina’s new photo ID law that the Democrats already have brought a gun to a knife fight.

How else to describe this naked assault on the right of a state to create minimal requirements to curb voter fraud?

On Dec. 23, Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez sent a letter ordering South Carolina to stop enforcing its photo ID law.
