The Pentagon suffered one of its largest-ever cyber thefts this spring when more than 24,000 files were stolen by a foreign government, officials disclosed on Thursday.

* BY WHICH FOREIGN GOVERNMENT...?!

“It is a significant concern that over the past decade, terabytes of data have been extracted by foreign intruders from corporate networks of defense companies,” he said at the start of an afternoon speech laying out the Defense Department’s first unified strategy for cyber security. “Indeed, in a single intrusion this March, 24,000 files were taken.”

* AND WHEN THE SCORES ARE TALLIED UP WHO WINS - THE FOREIGNERS SPYING ON US, OR US SPYING ON THE FOREIGNERS? (REASONABLE QUESTION, NO?!)

Lynn said the massive attack was not by an individual but by another country. “It was done, we think, by a foreign intelligence service,” he said, declining to identify the country. Theft “was data-related,” he said.

* AND BY WHAT RIGHT DOES THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION REFUSE TO PUBLICLY IDENTIFY A FOREIGN POWER WHICH ENGAGED IN CYBERWARFARE AGAINST US...?!?! WHY SHOULDN'T AMERICANS KNOW...?!?!

[T]he National Defense University, has been struck,” Lynn said. “The NDU website and its associated server were recently compromised by an intrusion that turned over system control to an unknown server.”

* BY CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER

President Obama is demanding a big long-term budget deal. He won’t sign anything less, he warns, asking, “If not now, when?”

(*SNORT*) (*ROLLING MY EYES*)

How about last December, when he ignored his own debt commission’s recommendations?

(*SMIRK*)

How about February, when he presented a budget that increases debt by $10 trillion over the next decade?

(*SNICKER*)

How about April, when he sought a debt-ceiling increase with zero debt reduction attached?

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD IN DISGUST*)

* FOLKS... OBAMA HAS NO CREDIBILITY. I NOTE THIS NOT AS A PARTISAN SLAM, BUT AS A MATTER OF CLEAR FACT. THE GUY LIES! THE GUY CONSTANTLY LIES!

All of a sudden he’s a born-again budget balancer prepared to bravely take on his own party by making deep cuts in entitlements.

Really? Name one.

* AND THAT'S THE RUB, FOLKS; THERE ARE NO CONCRETE PROPOSALS COMING OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE OR THE DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED SENATE. AND AS FOR THE REPUBLICANS... WELL... WHILE 10-YEAR "BLUEPRINTS" MAY BE PREFERABLE TO NO BLUEPRINTS... I'M ALMOST AS DISGUSTED WITH THE GOP AS I AM WITH THE DEMS.

Obama’s been saying forever that he’s prepared to discuss, engage, converse about entitlement cuts. But never once has he publicly proposed a single structural change to any entitlement.

* AGAIN... AT LEAST REPUBLICANS HAVE THE RYAN PLAN.

As part of the pose as the forward-looking grown-up rising above all the others who play politics, Obama insists upon a long-term deal. And what is Obama’s definition of long-term? Surprise: An agreement that gets him past Nov. 6, 2012.

Nothing could be more political.

(*SIGH*)

It’s like his Afghan surge wind-down date. September 2012 has no relation to any military reality on the ground. It is designed solely to position Obama favorably going into the last weeks of his reelection campaign.

* YEP. I FEAR THAT'S TRUE. HEY... SAY WHAT YOU WILL ABOUT BUSH AND CHENEY, BUT AT LEAST THEY WERE TRUE BELIEVERS; THEY FELT THE COST IN BLOOD AND TREASURE WAS NECESSARY. OBAMA...? COM'ON... YOU KNOW HE DOESN'T BELIEVE IN THE WAR ANY MORE THAN I DO.

A pliant press swallows the White House story line: the great compromiser (“clearly exasperated,” sympathized a Post news story) being stymied by Republican “intransigence” (the noun actually used in another front-page Post news story to describe the Republican position on taxes).

* FOLKS... AS I KEEP ON SAYING... THE ESTABLISHMENT MEDIA WILL GO BEYOND ANY LINE THEY'VE EVER CROSSED BEFORE IN ORDER TO GET OBAMA RE-ELECTED.

The meme having been established, Republicans have been neatly set up to take the fall if a deal is not reached by Aug. 2.

* HERE'S THE PROBLEM, FOLKS: THE GOP IS BY AND LARGE "THE STUPID PARTY" IN TERMS OF SNATCHING DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY. IF THEY CAVE I PREDICT BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTION THEY'LL BE VIOLENCE. (MARK MY WORDS...)

I can't for the life of me understand why you aren't posting like bandit to restore the reputations of Rupert Murdoch and his minions. You write of cyber-theft. How about the phone hacking of private citizens, celebrities and public officials, the bribing of the police and other public servants, and the concommitant manipulation of politics on both sides of the Atlantic? Not worth your time, is it?

Rodak said...

When are you going to talk about Rupert Murdoch, et al. And where is the my last comment, asking the same question?

Sorry, Rob - I have been away all weekend. Left for New Hampshire...

(*SIGN OF THE CROSS*)

...Friday at 1:00 p.m. and didn't get home till last night.

As for Murdock... quite honestly, Rob, I haven't been following it; don't really have much interest in it.

But, hey... feel free to keep posting and share your thoughts.

Perhaps you'll convince me it's important.

(*SHRUG*)

Best,

BILL

How can it not interest you? The thing is huge.

It may topple the British government, and it is certain to spread to this country.
I have a problem with conservatives precisely because they tend to "see" only that which is positive for the conservative side, or that which is a negative for the opposition. That which is bad (in this case, very-very bad!) for the conservative cause just does *yawwwwn* interest them at all. Okay. Just wait.

Whatever, Rob. Take care.
