Weekend Newsbites: Sat. & Sun., August 24 & 25, 2013

And the Drudge headline reads...

The actual title of the AP piece...

U.S. Forces Move Closer to Syria as Options Weighted

What options...???

The Constitution of the United States reads...
The Congress shall Have Power to ... define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and Offenses against the Law of Nations ... to declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal...
The Congress. Not the President. Look it up, folks... Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution of the United States.

And yet few believe Congress will declare war against Syria.

On the other hand, the news is rife with reporting and commentary regarding "if or when" President Obama will unilaterally embroil America in yet another war.

And if he does...? They'll be no talk... no serious, meaningful, sincerely predictive talk of impeachment. No. Reid will back him. Pelosi will back him. Odds are both Boehner and McConnell will back him...

(*SIGH*)

Congress doesn't want the responsibility that the Constitution places on its institutional shoulders, therefore, more often than not, our "honorable Representatives and Senators" simply sit back and allow the Executive to overstep his constitutional bounds and act as "Warlord-In-Chief," as a Monarch exercising "Royal Prerogative"... which is exactly what our Founders didn't want to happen.

Raise your hand if you'd be willing to go into Syria and fight against Assad's regime. Personally, I mean! Would you willingly send your son... daughter... niece... nephew...?

By what right does Barack Hussein Obama threaten to unilaterally take this nation to war against Syria... or against any country? Were Syria to attack us, the President would of course be expected to defend the nation until Congress either declared war or authorized him to retaliate. If Syria were to attack one of our treaty allies to whom we've pledged military support via Senate approved treaty then of course the President would be not just empowered, but compelled to come to our ally's aid.

Folks... these scenarios are not what we're dealing with!

Syria has not declared war against us. Syria has not attacked us. What right have we to insert ourselves into their civil war?

Have the Syrian employed "banned" chemical weapons? As of yesterday the administration said they didn't know. But assuming they did... so what? This is not radiation which might reach our shores nor a plague that upon reaching our shores would leave death and desolation. What we're talking about is geographically contained violence. If France feels the need to intervene... then good luck to them! Israel... Turkey... do whatever it is you feel you must!

But us...? The United States...? Why would we intervene? And again... going back to my opening commentary... by what right does Barack Hussein Obama rather than the Congress of the United States take this nation to war?

The answer... by no right... by no constitutional authority... indeed, only by deliberately failing (yet again) to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Staff working at America's National Security Agency – the eavesdropping unit that was revealed to have spied on millions of people – have used the technology to spy on their lovers.

* THEY... GOT... CAUGHT...

The employees even had a code name for the practice – "Love-int" – meaning the gathering of intelligence on their partners.

Dianne Feinstein, a senator who chairs the Senate intelligence committee, said the NSA told her committee about a set of "isolated cases" that have occurred about once a year for the last 10 years.

* THE... ONES... WHO... GOT... CAUGHT!

The spying was not within the U.S., and was carried out when one of the lovers was abroad.

* THE SPYING WE KNOW ABOUT! BECAUSE THEY GOT CAUGHT!

One employee was disciplined for using the NSA's resources to track a former spouse, the Associated Press said.

* "DISCIPLINED." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN...?!?!

* ANYWAY, FOLKS... JUST THE LATEST UPDATE...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/aug/23/new-obama-policy-warns-agents-not-detain-illegal-i/

The Obama administration issued a new policy Friday that says immigration agents should try not to arrest and deport illegal immigrant parents of minor children.

* BESIDES OBVIOUSLY BEING AGAINST OUR OWN NATIONAL INTERESTS, THIS NEW OBAMA POLICY WILL NO DOUBT INFLUENCE MORE FOREIGNERS TO TRY AND SNEAK ACROSS OUR BORDERS (CROSSING SOUTHERN DESERTS!!!) WITH KIDS IN TOW - THUS ENDANGERING THE KIDS!

The move adds to the categories of people the administration is trying not to deport.

(*SIGH*)

“President Obama has once again abused his authority and unilaterally refused to enforce our current immigration laws by directing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to stop removing broad categories of unlawful immigrants,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Robert W. Goodlatte, Virginia Republican.

* THERE IS NO LAW. THERE'S ONLY OBAMA POLICIES.

ICE agents and officers sued to try to block the policies, but a federal judge in Texas last month turned down their case. The judge said they were probably correct in arguing that the law requires them to arrest illegal immigrants, but he said he didn’t have jurisdiction since it was a matter for collective bargaining, not for the courts.

* WHAT... IS... THIS... MORON... BABBLING... ABOUT...?!?! WHAT'S COLLECTIVE BARGAINING HAVE TO DO WITH THE LAW...?!?!

The Obama administration said Sunday it believed Syria used chemical weapons in an offensive last week around Damascus and rebuffed the Assad regime's offer to provide U.N. inspectors access to the affected areas, saying the move came too late to be credible.

* ARE YOU F--KING KIDDING ME...?!?! "TOO LATE TO BE CREDIBLE...?!?!" THEY'VE INVITED U.N. INSPECTORS IN...!!! LET'S HEAR WHAT THE INSPECTORS HAVE TO SAY!

The comments by a senior administration official signaled that the White House wasn't backing away from a showdown despite apparent efforts by Damascus to ease tensions by allowing United Nations inspectors to visit the areas allegedly hit with chemical weapons.

(*SILENCE*)

* FOLKS... AGAIN... WHO HAS AUTHORIZED THIS DUMB BASTARD OBAMA TO START A WAR WITH SYRIA? CERTAINLY NOT CONGRESS! CERTAINLY NOT THE CONSTITUTION! CERTAINLY NOT "WE THE PEOPLE!"

The Pentagon has prepared military options for the White House that include cruise missile strikes on regime targets, officials said.

* YES THE PRESIDENT IS COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF... BUT ILLEGAL ORDERS ARE ILLEGAL ORDERS. NEITHER THIS PRESIDENT - NOR ANY OTHER - HAS THE RIGHT TO LAUNCH A MILITARY ATTACK UPON ANOTHER COUNTRY ABSENT CLEAR CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORIZATION (NOT NECESSARILY "DECLARATION OF WAR," THOUGH THAT WOULD BE THE HIGHT OF LEGITIMACY) OR AS A NECESSARY IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO AGRESSION (OR IMMINENT AGRESSION) AGAINST US, OUR ALLIES, OR OUR KEY NATIONAL INTERESTS.

U.S. intelligence agencies are still investigating last week's incident, and could present a final assessment to Mr. Obama within days.

* THE ONES WHICH DIDN'T SEE 9/11 COMING? THE ONES WHO INSISTED SADDAM HUSSEIN HAS WMD? THE ONES WHO DIDN'T PREVENT THE SHOE BOMBER FROM GETTING ON AN AIRPLANE "PACKING" A SHOE BOMB? THE ONES WHO DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE VEHICLE BOMB IN TIMES SQUARE? THE ONES WHO FAILED TO PROTECT BOSTON...?!?!

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

* B*E*N*G*H*A*Z*I...?!?!

Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) told Fox News Sunday even he was not sure to what extent the National Security Agency kept tabs on Americans, adding he wanted the NSA to brief Congress “from top to bottom” to explain the programs in place and help ensure appropriate oversight.

The U.S. Justice Department is suing Louisiana in New Orleans federal court to block 2014-15 vouchers for students in public school systems that are under federal desegregation orders. The first year of private school vouchers "impeded the desegregation process," the federal government says.

* HUH...???

The statewide voucher program, officially called the Louisiana Scholarship Program, lets low-income students in public schools graded C, D or F attend private schools at taxpayer expense. This year, 22 of the 34 systems under desegregation orders are sending some students to private schools on vouchers.

* OHH...KAY...

The Justice Department's primary argument is that letting students leave for vouchered private schools can disrupt the racial balance in public school systems...

* WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ACTUALLY EDUCATING ALL STUDENTS...???

Federal analysis found that last year's Louisiana vouchers increased racial imbalance in 34 historically segregated public schools in 13 systems. The Justice Department goes so far as to charge that in some of those schools, "the loss of students through the voucher program reversed much of the progress made toward integration."

* SO... LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT: ACCORDING TO THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, THE PRIMARY GOAL OF SENDING STUDENTS TO SCHOOL IN LOUISIANA IS NOT TO EDUCATE THE STUDENTS, BUT RATHER TO DESEGREGATE THE SCHOOLS?

* UH-HUH...

In Tangipahoa Parish, for instance, Independence Elementary School lost five white students to voucher schools, the petition states. The consequent change in the percent of enrolled white students "reinforc(ed) the racial identity of the school as a black school."

* SO... SCREW THESE FIVE WHITE KIDS? LET 'EM CONTINUE TO FAIL IN THE INDEPENDENCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL...???

State Education Superintendent John White took issue with the suit's primary argument and its characterization of the program. Almost all the students using vouchers are black, he said. Given that framework, "it's a little ridiculous" to argue that students' departure to voucher schools makes their home school systems less white, he said. He also thought it ironic that rules set up to combat racism were being called on to keep black students in failing schools.

* BINGO! (BUT, FOLKS... REMEMBER... THIS IS HOLDER'S JUSTICE DEPARTMENT... OBAMA'S AMERICA...)

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/08/25/us-syria-crisis-us-russia-idUSBRE97O09W20130825

Russia warned the United States on Sunday against repeating past mistakes, saying that any unilateral military action in Syria would undermine efforts for peace and have a devastating impact on the security situation in the Middle East.

* AND HOW ABOUT CHINA? INDEED, HOW MANY COUNTRIES - FROM ENEMIES TO ALLIES - HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT UNILATERAL U.S. MILITARY INTERVENTION WILL BE LOOKED UPON HARSHLY AND PERHAPS REACTED AGAINST IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER?

The Russian Foreign Ministry said its statement was a response to U.S. actions to give it the option of an armed strike against Syria.

It drew a parallel between reports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces had used chemical weapons and Washington's 2003 intervention in Iraq following accusations by then-President George Bush's administration that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's government possessed weapons of mass destruction.

* HEY, FOLKS... REMEMBER RICHARD JEWELL? (IF NOT... GOOGLE...)

"We once again decisively urge (the United States) not to repeat the mistakes of the past and not to allow actions that go against international law," the ministry said.

* NOW PERSONALLY I'M NOT A HUGE STICKLER WHEN IT COMES TO INTERNATIONAL LAW... BUT WHAT OF ALL YOU LIBS WHO SEEMED TO SO HIGHLY RESPECT IT WHEN IT WAS BUSH WHO WAS COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OR REAGAN?

"Any unilateral military action bypassing the United Nations will ... lead to further escalation (in Syria) and will affect the already explosive situation in the Middle East in the most devastating way."

* AND, FOLKS... AS I KEEP POINTING OUT... FORGET "UNILATERAL ACTION" IN THE SENSE OF LACKING U.N. APPROVAL; OBAMA HAS NO CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL TO TAKE US TO WAR AGAINST SYRIA!

U.S. President Barack Obama met his security advisers on Saturday to debate options following reports of the alleged chemical attack. U.S. naval forces have been repositioned in the Mediterranean to give Washington the option of an armed strike.

* HOW ABOUT MEETING WITH CONGRESS?!

* FOLKS... IF OBAMA WANTS THE AUTHORITY TO LAUNCH A "SNEAK ATTACK" AGAINST SYRIA THE ONLY BODY THAT CAN GIVE HIM SAID AUTHORITY IS THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES.

Syria's opposition accused Assad's forces of gassing many hundreds of people - by one report as many as 1,300 - on Wednesday. Syria said earlier on Sunday it had agreed to let the experts visit the site.

Russia, which has suggested that Syrian rebels may have carried out the attack, also said on Sunday that assigning blame too soon over the alleged poison gas strike would be a "tragic mistake", before a U.N. investigation on Monday.

* AGAIN... REMEMBER RICHARD JEWELL...
