President Obama's Remarks Today on the Zimmerman Case

From President Obama's remarks today concerning the Zimmerman case:

The judge conducted the trial in a professional manner. The prosecution and the defense made their arguments. The juries were properly instructed that in a case such as this reasonable doubt was relevant and they rendered a verdict.

"Relevant...?" Yeah... it's kinda the hallmark of the American legal system - that and a jury of one's peers... that and no double-jeopardy.

And once the jury’s spoken, that’s how our system works.

Yes. Unless it's not. Unless Holder - who works for Obama - files federal charges in clear violation of all professional standards and legal norms.

...if a white male teen was involved in the same kind of scenario, that, from top to bottom, both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different.

I simply don't believe this. Yes... "might." There's always gonna be "might." But I don't believe that had the deceased been white... or "white Hispanic"... in an otherwise identical scenario that Zimmerman would have been convicted - or even charged.

You know, I think it’s understandable that there have been demonstrations and vigils and protests, and some of that stuff is just going to have to work its way through as long as it remains nonviolent. If I see any violence, then I will remind folks that that dishonors what happened to Trayvon Martin and his family.

The President doesn't have access to the internet? To newspapers, magazines, television or radio...? There's been violence! Not "major" riots. Nothing approaching the post-Rodney King verdict. But for the President to simply gloss over what violence there's been... was wrong of him.

You know, when I was in Illinois I passed racial profiling legislation.

"I...???" (Beyond that observation and response, let me ask... isn't CHICAGO in Illinois...?)

And for those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these “stand your ground” laws, I just ask people to consider if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk? And do we actually think that he would have been justified in shooting Mr. Zimmerman, who had followed him in a car, because he felt threatened?

OK. I've thought about it. Yes... Trayvon could have "stood his ground" had he been attacked. No... "stand your ground" wouldn't have indemnified Martin had Martin shot Zimmerman for following him in a car. (Seriously, folks... Obama can't be as stupid as he comes off as being at time... can he?)

And if the answer to that question is at least ambiguous, it seems to me that we might want to examine those kinds of laws.

No, Mr. President, the answer is NOT in the least ambiguous. (He went to HARVARD... right?)
