The Presidet plans to ask Congress by the end of the week for [yet another] increase in the government's debt ceiling...

(*PAUSE*)

The approval is expected to go through without a challenge...

* OF COURSE IT IS...

The debt is projected to fall within $100 billion of the current cap by December 30, when the United States has $82 billion in interest on its debt and payments such as Social Security coming due. President Barack Obama is expected to ask for authority to increase the borrowing limit by $1.2 trillion, part of the spending authority that was negotiated between Congress and the White House this summer.

Under the agreement struck in August during the showdown over the government's debt limit, the cap is automatically raised unless Congress votes to block the debt-ceiling extension.

* BTW... THIS ARRANGEMENT IS BLATANTLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL - BUT BIPARTISANSHIP UBER ALLES, RIGHT?

Lawmakers have 15 days within receiving the request to vote, which is largely symbolic because the president can veto it and Congress would be unlikely to muster the two-thirds majority to override it. Moreover, the U.S. House of Representatives also is in recess until January 17.

* OF COURSE THEY ARE! AFTER ALL, DON'T YOU GET PAID VACATION BETWEEN THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS TILL JANUARY 17?

The debt limit currently stands at $15.194 trillion and would increase to $16.394 trillion with the request.

Police arrested nine people at the Mall of America Monday, the day after Christmas, after multiple fights broke out, authorities said.

* "PEOPLE...???" NO. I THINK NOT.

Mall of America officials released a statement saying that around 4:20 p.m. 50 juveniles caused a large disturbance in the north food court.

* "JUVENILES."

Witnesses said the fights started after there were reports that rappers Lil’ Wayne and Drake were visiting the Mall.

(*ROLLING MY EYES*)

Police said as many as 200 were involved the fights.

“It is very unfortunate to see these incidents occurring, especially during the holiday shopping season when families are out spending time together,” Mall officials wrote in a statement.

The Bill of Rights is there precisely because the Founders wanted to set a very high bar for the government to overcome in order to deprive an individual of life or liberty. To lower that bar is to endanger everyone.

* YET...

Little by little, in the name of fighting terrorism, our Bill of Rights is being repealed.

The 4th Amendment has been rendered toothless by the Patriot Act. No more can we truly feel secure in our persons, houses, papers, and effects when now there is an exception that fits nearly any excuse for our government to search and seize our property.

The recently passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) continues that slip toward tyranny and in fact accelerates it significantly.

The main section of concern, Section 1021 of the NDAA Conference Report, does to the 5th Amendment what the Patriot Act does to the 4th.

[T]his legislation codifies in law for the first time authority to detain Americans that has to this point only been claimed by President Obama.

* SUCH "AUTHORITY" IS OF COURSE NOT CONGRESS' TO GIVE... LET ALONE OBAMA'S TO CLAIM... YET HERE WE ARE.

The Bill of Rights has no exemptions for "really bad people" or terrorists or even non-citizens.

[The Bill of Rights - and indeed the Constitution itself - used to be] a key check on government power against any person. That is not a weakness in our legal system; it is the very strength of our legal system.

* BUT NO MORE! MY FRIENDS... WE ARE NO LONGER LIVING IN A NATION WHOSE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FEEL BOUND BY THE RULE OF LAW. THIS IS NOT HYPERBOLE. THIS IS FACT.

When did Congress tell Obama or any president he can bomb Iran as soon as he concludes Iran is building a nuclear weapon?

* GOOD QUESTION!

Returning from Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta dropped some jolting news.

Asked by CBS's Scott Pelley if Iran could have a nuclear weapon in 2012, Panetta replied: "It would probably be about a year before they could do it. Perhaps a little less. But one proviso, Scott, is that if they have a hidden facility somewhere in Iran that may be enriching fuel."

Panetta was saying the mullahs are a year or less away from an atom bomb, and if they have a hidden site for enriching uranium to weapons grade, they may be even closer.

"That is a red line for us," Panetta added. "If we get intelligence they are proceeding with developing a nuclear weapon, then we will take whatever steps necessary to deal with it."

Panetta is raising the specter of pre-emptive war.

* YES... WHY, YES, HE WAS!

[N]ot only have Panetta and Barack Obama talked about "all options on the table" regarding Iran - i.e., we do not rule out military strikes - so, too, have the GOP presidential candidates, save Rep. Ron Paul.

Sen. Rick Santorum says we are already at war: "Iran is a country that has been at war with us since 1979. ... The Iranians are the existential threat to Israel."

In fierce rebuttal to Paul's suggestion that the real threat to America is being stampeded into a new war, Rep. Michele Bachmann retorted: "We know beyond the shadow of a doubt that Iran will take a nuclear weapon, they will use it to wipe our ally Israel off the face of the map. ... The Iran Constitution ... states unequivocally that their mission is to extend jihad across the world and eventually to set up a worldwide caliphate."

* YEP. SANTORUM SCARES ME. SO DOES BACHMANN. I'D STILL VOTE FOR EITHER OF THEM OVER OBAMA, BUT JEEZ... THIS IS THE SORT OF THING I'M TALKING ABOUT WHEN I SAY SANTORUM AND BACHMANN SCARE ME.

While Obamaites, neocons and Republicans are talking about "all options on the table," the war option, if we still have a Constitution, cannot be used against a nation that has not attacked us, unless Congress, which alone has the power to declare war, has authorized military action.

* THE PROBLEM BEING... NO... WE DON'T STILL LIVE UNDER A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC... WE DON'T STILL LIVE UNDER THE RULE OF LAW. I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE LIVE UNDER, BUT I KNOW THAT IT'S NOT THE UNITED STATES THAT THE FOUNDERS GAVE US.
