Weekend Newsbites: Sat. & Sun., July 19 & 20, 2014

*  *  *  *  *  *
It’s probably not true that a frog will allow itself to be boiled alive if only the heat is raised slowly enough, but it’s an irresistible image nonetheless.

However, the anti-borders forces — on the Left and the Right — have counted on such passivity among the public to incrementally erode the American people’s ability to decide who gets to move here from abroad.

[These forces] have devised endless opportunities to appeal deportation decisions, prevented the implementation of needed control measures, pushed relentlessly to pierce numerical caps, and created strong incentives against government functionaries saying “no” to those who want to come.

The motto over the doorway of the immigration office might as well be “It ain’t over til the alien wins.”

President Obama has turned up the heat over the past five years. Using “prosecutorial discretion” as a pretext, he has exempted the vast majority of illegal aliens from the consequences of their actions. He has formally amnestied — without legislative authorization — more than a half-million illegal immigrants who claim to have come here before age 16.

He is signaling that sometime this year he will unilaterally, and [again] illegally, amnesty half or more of the roughly 12 million illegal aliens now living in the United States.

All this generated some pushback, of course, but not enough to get the frog to jump out of the pot.

The border crisis seems to be changing that.

* IT WAS... AND THEN THE MSM HAD THE DOWNED MAYLASIAN JET FALL INTO THEIR LAP... AND SUDDENLY COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SITUATION WAS PUSHED ASIDE. (NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE, HUH?)

Tens of thousands of teenagers and families from Central America have poured into Texas, drawn by the Obama administration’s lax enforcement policies.

There should be an emergency response to this unprecedented crisis, featuring military backup, tent cities, expedited processing and uncompromising rhetoric. Instead, the illegal immigrants are simply being released into the United States with a summons to appear in immigration court. The majority will ignore the summons with impunity, but it allows them to reside and travel here legally until the court date, leading to its being nicknamed a “permiso,” or permit.

(*SILENCE*)

The administration’s frivolous approach to the deluge is clear from a recent request for an extra $3.7 billion to address it. The majority of funds would go not to enforcement but to efforts at resettling the illegal aliens in the United States.

(*SHRUG*) (*NOD*)

The response of the administration and its supporters to the breakdown of the border in South Texas seems to have finally gotten a large share of the public to see what’s happening. Even the White House’s use of illegal-alien children as human shields for its anti-sovereignty policies has not managed to allay the increasing sense of alarm across the country.

Only a few peeps of concern have emanated from Democrats in Congress - most of whom are applauding the border breakdown.

Republicans haven’t been much better. Rep. Paul Ryan and Sen. John McCain have taken the opportunity to repeat their support for amnesty and dramatic increases in immigration.

(*PURSED LIPS*)

* FOLKS... HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO REPEAT: PAUL RYAN IS MORE FRAUD THAN REAL DEAL. HE'S "ONE OF THEM." PERIOD.

In the absence of political leadership, the public is jumping out of the pot on its own. A new Gallup poll shows that immigration now tops the list of most important issues facing the country, higher than dissatisfaction with government, the economy, jobs or health care.

* BUT THIS BRINGS US BACK TO THE REALITY OF THE MSM SETTING THE NATIONAL AGENDA...

(*SIGH*)

That concern is being expressed by ordinary citizens in their communities. Residents of Murrieta, Calif., were the first to act, blocking buses to prevent the relocation of illegal immigrants from the Texas border. Virtually the entire town of Lawrenceville, Va., came to a community meeting on relocating illegal-immigrant juveniles there, causing the federal government to back off. Similar resistance has happened in Vassar, Mich.; Oracle, Ariz.; Greece, N.Y.; Escondido, Calif.; and elsewhere.

The story isn’t over in those communities, where illegal immigrants have already been relocated. Come September, thousands of illegal-alien “minors” (many of them adults lying about their age) will be entering unprepared public schools, creating a new wave of outrage.

(*DRUM ROLL*)

* FOLKS... PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU'RE ABOUT TO READ...

Perhaps one particular decision by the White House highlights how concerned the administration is about public reaction: As of now, not a single illegal-alien detainee seems to have been sent to Louisiana or Arkansas, the states bordering Texas that are closest to the site of the border deluge.

This is no accident.

Those two states have Democratic senators up for re-election who are vulnerable enough to lose, but who might still be able to prevail.

The White House appears to have decided not to send any illegals there to avoid the potential for political damage.

(*PURSED LIPS*)

This weekend, protests are planned across the country against amnesty and for immigration enforcement. Such events don’t usually draw large crowds, since for most people most of the time, immigration just isn’t that important an issue.

However, this time might be different. The anti-borders crowd has overreached, doing us a favor by revealing their true intentions. It’s time to jump.

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://news.yahoo.com/us-terrorist-database-growing-rapid-rate-223303875.html

The U.S. government is rapidly expanding the number of names it accepts for inclusion on its terrorist watch list, with more than 1.5 million added in the last five years, according to numbers divulged by the government in a civil lawsuit.

About 99% of the names submitted are accepted, leading to criticism that the government is "wildly loose" in its use of the list.

* YA THINK...?!?!

Those included in the Terrorist Screening Database could find themselves on the government's no-fly list or face additional scrutiny at airports, though only a small percentage of people in the database are actually on the list.

It has been known for years that the government became more aggressive in nominating people for the watch list following al-Qaida operative Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's failed effort to blow up an airplane over Detroit on Christmas Day 2009.

* FOLKS...!!! THE FBI ACTUALLY "INVESTIGATED" THE BOSTON BOMBERS BEFORE THE BOSTON BOMB AND...

(*SHRUG*)

* FOLKS... UNDERSTAND... OUR BLOATED FEDERAL "INTELLIGENCE" AND "SECURITY" INFRASTRUCTURE IS LARGELY INCOMPETENT!

* FOLKS... SNOWDEN WAS ABLE TO BECOME SNOWDEN BECAUSE... (*BLOOD PRESSURE RISING*)... THOSE IDIOTS HIRED HIM...!!!

* FOLKS... NOT ONE BUT TWO... TWO... TWO... FT. HOOD MASSACRES! (AND DON'T FORGET ANNAPOLIS!)

But the numbers disclosed by the government show submissions have snowballed. In fiscal 2009, which ended Sept. 30, 2009, 227,932 names were nominated to the database. In fiscal 2010, which includes the months after the attempted Christmas bombing, nominations rose to 250,847. In fiscal 2012, they increased to 336,712, and in fiscal 2013 — the most recent year provided — nominations jumped to 468,749.

The government disclosed the figures in a civil lawsuit out of Virginia challenging the constitutionality of the no-fly list.

At a hearing Friday, government lawyers urged a judge to dismiss the case, claiming state secrets will be exposed if the case proceeds.

U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga issued no immediate ruling but expressed deep skepticism of the government's motion.

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

Gadeir Abbas, a lawyer for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which filed the suit on behalf of a northern Virginia man, said the numbers show the government is failing to abide by the standards required for inclusion, which require "a reasonable suspicion to believe that a person is a known or a suspected terrorist."

"There aren't 1 million people who are known or suspected terrorists," Abbas said after the hearing. "This suggests the standard the government is applying is wildly loose."

* ONE... WOULD... THINK...

A Terrorist Screening Center official declined comment Friday on the numbers.

A counterterrorism official previously told The Associated Press that as of August 2013, there were 700,000 names on the watch list. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss sensitive security information.

Counterterrorism officials have said names are routinely removed from the list.

In Friday's hearing, though, Abbas argued that the process the government uses to evaluate who should be on the list is opaque, and that people who find themselves on it never receive an explanation or a meaningful way to get removed.

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Abbas' client, Gulet Mohamed, 21, of Alexandria, Virginia, has never been told why he is on the list. Mohamed, a naturalized citizen, was stranded in Kuwait in 2011 trying to return to the U.S. after a trip to Yemen and his native Somalia. U.S. authorities allowed Mohamed to fly home after he sued, but the lawsuit challenging the legality of the list remains unresolved. He has never been charged with any sort of terror-related offense, and says his inclusion on the list is a mistake.

Government lawyer Amy Powell told the judge that the government does not seek to invoke its state secrets privilege lightly, but said it would inevitably have to expose its methods and sources if it explained at a public trial why Mohamed was put on the list.

* SO... HE'S A TERRORIST... WHO THE GOVERNMENT LETS ROAM FREE... BECAUSE THEY CAN'T RISK TRYING HIM IN A COURT OF LAW...?

Trenga, though, said a secret filing he received from the government partially explaining its rationale for invoking state secrets was inadequate. "I didn't notice any real restraint" in how the government was invoking the privilege, Trenga said. "They were the kinds of things that would not jump out at you as state secrets."

Earlier this year, Trenga rejected a previous government effort to get the case dismissed.

The Alexandria case follows a ruling last month by a federal judge in Oregon that found people placed on the list have no adequate means to challenge their status. She ordered the government to develop a better means for seeking redress from placement on the list.

The government has not yet decided whether to appeal that ruling.

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2014/07/19/Former-Border-Patrol-Chief-1-in-5-Criminal-Record

Former U.S. Border Patrol Deputy Chief Ronald Coburn reported that the southern border is seeing “the kind of chaos we saw along the border prior to 9/11” and that “one in five” illegal aliens today has a criminal record in an appearance on Saturday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Justice With Judge Jeanine.”

“One in ten of every adult male crossers in this day and age more than likely already has a violent criminal record here in the United States, has been removed, and is returning.

* MORE THAN LIKELY...??? (I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED, BUT I'D LIKE TO SEE SOME BACK-UP...)

Another one in ten, making it one in five...

* ACTUALLY... WOULDN'T THAT MAKE IT TWO IN TWENTY...? (OR TWO IN TEN...???)

(*SMILE*)

...is bringing with him or her their violent criminal tendencies and records from their own countries of which we don't know yet” Coburn said.

* REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE NUMBERS ARE, THE POINT HE'S MAKING IS CORRECT.

He also stated that drug cartels are mocking the U.S.

“As a border security subject matter expert I am closely linked with the intelligence community. And we do watch the social networks, the electronic networks where we see the cartels boasting about their gains being made and laughing at the U.S. government's handling of this situation... They are coming here not to contribute to society but to prey on society.” He also said the morale of the Border Patrol “has never been this poor.”

* AGAIN... QUIBBLE WITH THE NUMBERS AND PRESENTATION... BUT YEAH... I HAVE NO DOUBT HE'S BASICALLY RIGHT.

http://dailycaller.com/2014/07/18/white-house-hid-huge-spike-of-families-crossing-border/

New data shows the White House has painted a false picture of the Central American migration by hiding a huge spike in “family units” who are illegally crossing the Texas border.

The data, which was dumped by the U.S. border patrol late Friday afternoon, shows that inflow of youths and children traveling without parents has doubled since 2013, to 57,525 in the nine months up to July 2014.

But the number of migrants who cross the border in so-called “family units” has spiked five-fold to 55,420, according to the border patrol’s data, which came out amid a storm of news about the shoot-down of a Malaysian aircraft in Ukraine, delays in failed U.S. nuke talks with Iran, and on Hamas’ continued war against Israel.

In the Rio Grande area where most of the migrants are crossing the border, the number of so-called “unaccompanied children” was actually outnumbered by the inflow by adults, parents and children in “family units,” according to the data. The much-faster growth in “family units” has been hidden by White House and agency officials, who have tried to portray the influx as a wave of children fleeing abuse and violence.

* FUCKIN' OBAMA...

Top officials, such as Jeh Johnson, the secretary of Homeland Security, has explained the influx as a child migration, and justified the government’s welcoming response as acting “in the best interests of the children.” That portrayal has been picked up and spread by Democratic legislators, reporters and bloggers — such as Greg Sargent at The Washington Post and Rachel Lienesch at the Huffington Post – to help mute the public’s growing anger at the Democrats’ failure to guard the border.

(*SHRUG*)

* YEP... RIGHT OUT OF THE PLAYBOOK...

Many of the men, women and children who cross the border in “family units” are temporarily held until they’re...

* DEPORTED? (WHY... NO!)

* ..UNTIL THEY'RE...

...transported to cities where they have relatives or friends.

* AMERICAN CITIES!

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Those resettlement efforts have sparked a growing wave of nationwide protests, and denunciations from governors and federal legislators. Officials have tried to hide the migrant transfers and locations to mute protests.
