Barker's Newsbites: Wednesday, January 2, 2013

New Year's resolutions...???

Hmm... buy a gun?

Folks... 2013 is gonna suck. Same with 2014, 2015, and 2016.

America crossed a line with last year's election that I don't see us ever crossing back. The dream is dead... life goes on.

Yeah... that's my "optimism" for you. Life goes on.

Back to the diet today!

My "big" New Year's resolution... finish last year's Texas vacation blog entry!

And now... on to newsbites!

The Senate deal to avoid the "fiscal cliff" will add roughly $4 trillion to the deficit when compared to current law, according to new numbers from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

* HEY... FOLKS... IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU'RE HEARING THIS... HEARING THE SPECIFIC NUMBER OF $4 TRILLION... WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU?

(*SNORT*)

* NO... YOU'RE NOT IGNORANT. (WELL... YOU'RE A BIT IGNORANT...) (*GRIN*) BUT WHAT I'M GETTING AT IS THAT THIS "LITTLE FACTOID" WAS CERTAINLY NOT FRONT AND CENTER DURING MSM COVERAGE OF THE "FISCAL CLIFF TALKS."

(*ANOTHER SNORT*)

* FOLKS... YOU'RE LIED TO AND MANIPULATED EACH AND EVERY DAY. AND THE SAD FACT IS... MOST OF THE SHEEPLE ARE QUITE ALRIGHT WITH THAT... AND EVEN SOME A FEW OF MY REGULARS ARE... er... CERTAINLY LESS THAN OUTRAGED AT THIS SORT OF BEHAVIOR.

(*SHRUG*)

* OH... AND BACK TO THE FISCAL REALITIES... YOU'RE GONNA LUV THIS ONE, FOLKS...

The CBO estimate comes after the Joint Committee on Taxation estimated it would reduce federal revenue by $3.93 trillion over the next 10 years when compared to current law.

* SO... MORE DEBT... LESS REVENUE... (SOME BUMPER STICKER, HUH?)

In addition to indefinitely extending the George W. Bush-era income tax rates for family income up to $450,000...

* AH, YES... THE NEW "OBAMA MIDDLE CLASS" EXTENDS UP TO $499,999.99 OF INCOME PER YEAR!

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

...and individual income up to $400,000...

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

...the agreement would also set the estate tax rate at 40%, up from 35%, and exempt inheritances below $5 million.

(*SMIRK*)

The deal would also increase the capital gains and dividend tax rates to 20% from the 15% level in 2012.

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP...*)

* THANK GOD THAT THE BUFFETS AND ROMNEYS ARE SAFE!

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

* YEAH... YOU... MY FRIEND WHOSE NAME DARE NOT BE MENTIONED... NOTICE THE SCAM... THE CONTINUING SCAM...?

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Stocks held sharp gains across the board on the first trading day of 2013 as investors cheered the last-minute budget agreement by lawmakers...

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

* OF... COURSE... THE... MARKETS... CHEERED...!

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared more than 250 points...

* OF... COURSE... IT... DID...!!!

(*SNORT*)

* AS IF THAT'S GOOD! HA! HA! HA! OH... GEEZ... IT'S EITHER LAUGH OR CRY. THE POOR STUPID SHEEPLE...

(*SIGH*)

* HEY... BUDDY... MY PAL WHOSE NAME I DARE NOT MENTION... "GREAT" NEWS, HUH! THE MARKET'S UP!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/comment/ambroseevans_pritchard/9773911/Stocks-to-soar-as-world-money-catches-fire-Calvinst-Europe-left-behind.html

The U.S., Japan, Britain, as well as the Swiss, Scandies, and a string of states around the world, are actively driving down their currencies or imposing caps.

They are tearing up the script, embracing the new creed of nominal GDP targeting (NGDP), a license for yet more radical action.

The side-effects of this currency warfare - or "beggar-thy-neighbour’ policy as it was known in the 1930s - is an escalating leakage of monetary stimulus into the global system.

* OF THE OLIGARCHS... BY THE OLIGARCHS... FOR THE OLIGARCHS!

So don’t fight the Fed, and never fight the world’s central banks on multiple fronts.

Stock markets have already sensed this, up to a point, lifting Tokyo’s Nikkei by 23% and Wall Street by 10% since June.

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

The New Year ritual of predictions is a time for bravado, so let me hazard that the S&P 500 index of stocks will break through its all time high of 1565 in early 2013 - mindful though I am of flagging volume...

(*SNORT*)

* OH... IF YOU DON'T "GET" THE SNARK... (*PURSED LIPS*)... THAT'S WHY YOU'RE A SHEEPLE.

(*SHRUG*)

The Shanghai Composite will continue its explosive rally as China loosens the spigot again. The Politburo is reverting to its bad old ways of easy credit for state behemoths, and an infrastructure blitz, with $60bn of fiscal stimulus as well for good measure. Reform can wait.

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

The headwinds of deleveraging will return with gale force. The glut of excess global savings that lay behind the great crisis of 2008-2009 - and that has kept us stuck in the Long Slump ever since - is still getting worse.

http://www.france24.com/en/20130102-hundreds-cars-torched-french-new-year-tradition

Hundreds of empty, parked cars go up in flames in France each New Year’s Eve, set afire by young "revelers," a much lamented tradition that remained intact this year with 1,193 vehicles burned, Interior Minister Manuel Valls said Tuesday.

* FRENCH...? ETHNIC FRENCH...? THOUGH I OF COURSE HAVE A FAIR DEGREE OF CONTEMPT FOR THE FRENCH, I WONDER IF PERHAPS THESE "YOUNG REVELERS" AREN'T MAINLY MIDDLE EASTERN AND AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS OF MUSLIM PURSUASION.

(*SHRUG*)

His announcement was the first time in three years that such figures have been released. The conservative government of former President Nicolas Sarkozy had decided to stop publishing them in a bid to reduce the crime - and not play into the hands of car-torching youths who try to outdo each other.

* HOW'BOUT THIS... PUT SNIPERS ON ROOFS... WHEN ANYONE - MALE, FEMALE, WHITE, BLACK, BROWN, MUSLIM, CHRISTIAN, ATHEIST - IS SEEN PREPARING TO SET A CAR AFIRE... SHOT THE BASTARD.

Car-torching took a new step in France when it became a way to mark the arrival of the New Year. The practice reportedly began in earnest among youths - often in poor neighborhoods - in the 1990s in the region around Strasbourg in eastern France.

* METHINKS THOU ART USING "POOR" AS CODE FOR "MUSLIM IMMIGRANT."

It also became a voice of protest during the fiery unrest by despairing youths from housing projects that swept France in the fall of 2005. At the time, police counted 8,810 vehicles burned in less than three weeks.

* AGAIN... MUSLIM IMMIGRANTS...???

(*SHRUG*)

Yet even then, cars were not burned in big cities like Paris, and that remained the case this New Year’s Eve. Minister Valls said the Paris suburban region of Seine-Saint-Denis, where the 2005 unrest started, led the nation for torched cars, followed by two eastern regions around Strasbourg.

http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2013/01/02/obama-returns-hawaii-added-cost-3-million/

In a move that is rich in irony, President Obama agreed Tuesday night to sign an emergency deficit reduction bill...

* WHICH BY THE WAY CBS IS REPORTING HE HAS YET TO ACTUALLY SIGN INTO LAW...

...that does almost nothing to rein in spending...

* AS PREVIOUSLY NEWSBITED, THE CBO SHOWS IT ADDS TO DEFICIT SPENDING...

(*SIGH*)

...and then jetted out to Hawaii to resume his vacation at an extra cost of more than $3 million to taxpayers.

The price tag is in addition to more than $4 million that is already being spent on the Obamas’ Hawaii idyll, bringing the total cost of the excursion to well over $7 million.

The added cost was incurred because by the time the Obamas return from Hawaii – whenever that is – the president will have used Air Force One to travel to Honolulu and back twice.

Obama was forced to return from Hawaii just after Christmas to complete negotiations to avoid the Fiscal Cliff...

* NO HE WASN'T! HE AND ALL THE REST OF THE CLOWNS HAD NEARLY TWO YEARS TO COME TO AN AGREEMENT. THEY DELIBERATELY WAITED TILL THE LAST MOMENT!

...talks resulting in the bill that was passed by Congress last night. Obama resisted significant spending cuts throughout the negotiations, and the final legislation relies almost solely a new taxes to reduce the deficit.

* WHICH... IT... DOESN'T...!!!

Air Force One is known to cost about $180,000 an hour to fly. Based on an estimated 18 hours roundtrip flying time for the jet between Washington and Honolulu, the travel cost alone of Obama’s decision to return to Hawaii amounts to around $3.24 million. And that doesn’t include the price tag for the massive security operation required to move the president or the cost of the cargo plane that follows Air Force One around.

The Obamas could have saved taxpayers millions by returning from Hawaii together after Christmas and then resuming their vacation at one of the many ritzy resorts that lie outside of Washington. If the beach is a must, even a trip to Florida would have been far less expensive.

Or they could have simply stayed at the White House or Camp David, each a luxurious government-run installation, billing taxpayers a relative pittance.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/01/02/lawmakers-outraged-after-house-gop-scraps-vote-on-sandy-aid/

* HERE'S THE HEADLINE, FOLKS...

Furious & Fuming: Christie Blames House GOP, Boehner For Politicizing Sandy Aid

* THREE WORDS: 1) FUCK; 2) YOU; 3) CHRISTIE!

* FOLKS... YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I HATE BOEHNER, BUT TWO POINTS: 1) BOEHNER ISN'T "TO BLAME" FOR "POLITICIZING" SANDY AID; 2) IT'S THE NEEDLESS PORK THAT'S "POLITICIZING" SANDY AID.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) met with criticism from both sides of the political spectrum Wednesday for his sudden decision to pull the plug on the vote for desperately-needed aid for Superstorm Sandy victims.

* FOLKS... IT'S WHEN BOTH SIDES ARE SHOOTING AT BOEHNER THAT YOU SHOULD SUSPECT HE'S (ACCIDENTALLY OR NOT) STUMBLED UPON A REASONABLE POSITION!

Following the barrage of attacks, Boehner assured Tri-State lawmakers that a vote on the full $60.4 billion aid bill will come in less than two weeks.

“It’s going to be $9 billion on flood insurance this Friday will be voted on. And then on Jan. 15, the first full legislative day, will be the additional $51 billion will be voted on and that’ll come to a total of $60 [billion], which is what the total was of the bill that was supposed to be voted on this week,” Rep. Peter King (R-NY) announced Wednesday afternoon. ”All I care about is my constituents, the constituents of New York and New Jersey who were absolutely devastated. Clearly, the Speaker responded and I take him at his word.”

* YEP... FULLY UNDERSTOOD... ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS YOUR CONSTITUENTS... NOT THE NATION... NOT SEEKING THE PERFECT COST/BENEFIT POINT... JUST VOTES... THAT'S WHAT IT COMES DOWN TO.

* FOLKS... HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I IDENTIFIED PETER KING AS A PIECE OF SHIT OR NEAR PIECE OF SHIT...?

(*SHRUG*)

Following his earlier harsh words for the top Republican in the House, King also said he planned to vote for Boehner to retain his title of Speaker of the House on Thursday.

(*SMIRK*)

* YEP... THAT ABOUT SUMS UP THE KIND OF MAN PETER KING IS.

On Friday, the Senate overwhelmingly approved a $60.4 billion measure to help with recovery. The House Appropriations Committee drafted a smaller version for $27 billion with plans to add an amendment for additional long-term help.

* FOLKS... RIGHT THERE... IF THAT DOESN'T TELL YOU THAT THERE'S AT LEAST $33.4 BILLION IN PORK LARDED INTO THE SENATE BILL...

(*SNORT*)

* MY GUESS? IF THE BOEHNER REPUBLICANS WOULD BE HAPPY WITH $27 BILLION IN AID... I'M GUESSING $10-$15 BILLION IS ACTUALLY WHAT'S DEFENSIBLE IF WE WERE TO GO POINT BY POINT OVER AID REQUESTS.

(*SPITTING ON THE GROUND*)

http://washingtonexaminer.com/tim-carney-how-corporate-tax-credits-got-in-the-cliff-deal/article/2517397#.UOTWk6xmPFy

The "fiscal cliff" legislation passed this week included $76 billion in special-interest tax credits for the likes of General Electric, Hollywood and even Captain Morgan. But these subsidies weren't the fruit of eleventh-hour lobbying conducted on the cliff's edge - they were crafted back in August in a Senate committee, and they sat dormant until the White House reportedly insisted on them this week.

* AGAIN, FOLKS... TELL ME... SHORT OF TARGETED VIOLENCE... SHORT OF KILLING THESE BASTARDS... HOW DO WE STOP THEM FROM CONTINUING TO STEAL THE COUNTRY RIGHT OUT FROM UNDER US?

* FOLKS... READ THE ARTICLE. DISGUSTING. AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S MAINLY DEMOCRATIC FINGER-PRINTS SINCE OBVIOUSLY WE'RE TALKING A SENATE BILL INSISTED UPON BY OBAMA.
