Barker's Newsbites: Monday, January 7, 2013

Well, folks, Christmas wasn't all watches and booze; Christmas is also a time of gifting - and getting - books.

One of the books I'm presently reading is "Into The Fire: A Firsthand Account  Of The Most Extraordinary Battle In The Afghan War," by Dakota Meyer and Bing West.

Yeah... Medal of Honor Recipient Dakota Meyer.

Yep... that Bing West.

I'm only up to page 52, but already it's clear - at least from Meyer's and West's perspectives - that Afghanistan is another Vietnam... only worse.

God help us, folks...

In the meantime... in case any of you have an interest is joining me...

As the sun came up over Seaside Heights, the damage from Superstorm Sandy was hard to miss. There’s still a lot of work to be done in this popular resort town, but Monday marked a major step in Seaside Height’s recovery.

Residents in single family houses, who were granted a Certificate of Continued Occupancy, could now permanently stay in their homes.

While many plan to rebuild, others, like Robin Urcinole, say they’re done at Seaside.

Her family’s lived here for 13 years, but they’re packing up and have bought a house in Bayville.

“It doesn’t feel like our home anymore,” said Urcinole. “It’s over, we figured let’s start fresh.”

Robin claims dealing with FEMA has been a nightmare. She says the organization offered to give them around $1200, for damage she got estimated at $40,000.

* Er... umm... er... WHY IS FEMA GIVING THEM ONE RED CENT OF MY TAX MONEY...???

* ONE WORD: INSURANCE! EITHER YOU'VE GOT IT OR YOU DON'T! WHY IS IT MY PROBLEM... AND YOURS, FELLOW READERS... THAT THESE PEOPLE OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T ACT RESPONSIBLY WITH REGARD TO BUYING INSURANCE...?

* SAVE THE SAD SACK TALES FOR SOMEONE WHO GIVES A SHIT!
