Listen to this Piece of Garbage Michael Gerson
Gerson, an opinion writer for the Washington Post writes...
For me, the Koran-burning in Afghanistan brought back memories of the horrible morning at the White House when photos of abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison surfaced. This is not to argue that an act of negligence at Bagram Air Base is morally comparable to the grinning barbarity of military police at Abu Ghraib. It is only to empathize with an administration facing events that aren’t its fault but that are its problem.
Where to begin?
How about with this: Instead of "empthizing" with "the administration" perhaps as a human being Mr. Gerson might consider turning his "empathy" - and his sympathy - towards the six American servicemen who have (so far) been murdered in Afghanistan by our... er... "Afghan allies."
Screw the animals who were abused at Abu Ghraib! That wasn't "barbarism." Barbarism is torture... not "hazing."
Yeah. I said it.
"Torture" is beating someone to within an inch of his life.
"Torture" is jumper cables - one end to a car battery... the other end to a guy's "junk."
"Torture" is maiming... is mutilation... is stoning someone to death or smashing a person's hand with a hammer - one finger smashed at a time.
Folks... each of us knows what "torture" is.
I'm not making light of, or excusing, what occurred at Abu Gharaib, but aside from deliberately inflicting the pain of a cigarette burn or even multiple burns upon certain prisoners, what we're talking about is not the old school "barbarity" Gerson would have readers envision.
Gerson continued...
The pie chart of an American military operation is dominated by honor and excellence, with a sliver of incompetence and abuse. The sliver can make a lot of news. In these cases, the president’s role is to serve the interests of the nation and the troops under his command. If those interests are best secured by an apology, there is no dishonor in it.
That's Gerson's second paragraph without even acknowledging that his fellow countrymen have been murdered in Afghanistan.
Disgusting.
"The Taliban have naturally exploited America’s trash-dump blunder."
That's the first sentence of Gerson's third paragraph. From there he proceeds to switch from defending Obama to going on the attack against... er... Newt Gingrich.
Oh, yes... paragraphs three and four are dedicated to attacking Newt Gingrich... and still... not a word about our American servicemen murdered in Afghanistan.
Oh...! Wait a minute! I've just come up to paragraph number five and finally Gerson acknowledges his murdered fellow countrymen...
More serious critics of the war contend that the Afghan reaction to the Koran-burning incident - including the treacherous killing of American officers - indicates a doomed counterinsurgency campaign. Afghan hearts and minds, they argue, are beyond winning.
Oh... yes... "including" the "treacherous killing of American officers..."
This bastard Gerson can't even bring himself to use the correct word... murder... the "murder of American officers..."
Oh... and folks... if you already think you've read enough to get a clear picture of where this Gerson character is coming from, wait... you ain't read nothing yet!
From paragraph seven...
"The frustration is understandable, but the case is overstated."
Hmm... "understandable."
But... er... the case is... "overstated." Right...
And then Gerson continues with this...
The current crisis, says Michael O’Hanlon of the Brookings Institution, is “far more than a blip, but less than a catastrophe.”
Tell that to the parents, siblings, wives, girlfriends, other family and loved ones of the six murdered American servicemen, Mr. O'Hanlon of the Brookings Institute.
Tell them that the lives taken were but "a blip."
Send condolences along with the message that at least the murders don't constitute "a catastrophe."
Readers... if I had Gerson and O'Hanlon before me now in person... I'd show both me "barbarity." I might not "torture" them, but by God I'd beat the every living shit out of them!
O'Hanlon continued...
Betrayal by Afghan soldiers and officials is disturbing and damaging but not generalized or dramatically growing.
Uh-huh...
(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)
Karzai’s reaction to the Koran incident has been measured, particularly when compared with past tantrums.
Folks... what do you say to idiocy on this scale?
Frankly... I can't go on. I won't go on. This so-called "commentary" is so shallow, misguided, and clearly politicized that I simply can't stomach continuing.
Here's the link.
Read the rest of Gerson's column for yourself... if you have the stomach for it.
