Hey, Olympia Snowe... Don't Let the Door Hit You on Your Way Out!
Another moron abandons the sinking ship of state...
In Snowe's own words:
Two truths are all too often overshadowed in today’s political discourse: Public service is a most honorable pursuit, and so is bipartisanship.
(*SNORT*)
I have been immeasurably honored to serve the people of Maine for nearly 40 years in public office and for the past 17 years in the United States Senate.
Olympia... sweetie... public "service" other than on a volunteer, unpaid basis, isn't about feeding at the public trough for 40 years...
Olympia... darlin'... public "service" isn't going to Washington to lord it over the ignorant masses as a member of the United States Senate for 18 years...
Olympia... the fact that you don't understand this... that says it all.
I have spoken on the floor of the Senate for years about the dysfunction and political polarization in the institution. Simply put, the Senate is not living up to what the Founding Fathers envisioned.
All true... but I doubt you have the faintest idea what the Founding Fathers envisioned.
Here - let me explain it to you, Senator:
What our Founders envisioned was a Senate whose members represented their states.
Specifically, what our Founders envisioned was that the Senate would protect states' rights and The Constitution of the United States.
Olympia... Senator Snowe... what our Founders envisioned was a body made up of individuals who put the Rule of Law before the rule of the jungle... the rule of personal self-interest!
Passed by Congress May 13, 1912, and ratified April 8, 1913, the 17th amendment modified Article I, section 3, of the Constitution by allowing voters to cast direct votes for U.S. Senators. Prior to its passage, Senators were chosen by state legislatures.
And that was that.
Since then Senators have been politicians first... statesmen second... third... and often not ever.
The Senate of today routinely jettisons regular order, as evidenced by the body’s failure to pass a budget for more than 1,000 days; serially legislates by political brinkmanship, as demonstrated by the debt-ceiling debacle of August that should have been addressed the previous January; and habitually eschews full debate and an open amendment process in favor of competing, up-or-down, take-it-or-leave-it proposals.
Olympia... pumpkin... snuggle-bug...
(*PAUSE*)
YOU'VE BEEN A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING OF THIS DYSFUNCTIONAL BODY FOR 17 FRIGG'N YEARS...!!!
(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)
Is this "letter to the People" by Snowe a sick joke... a fraud... a fake news piece inserted by a clever satirist?
Is this woman an alcoholic? On drugs?
(*STILL JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)
[T]there is no practical incentive for 75% of the senators to work across party lines.
Might I suggest returning Afghanistan and Iraq combat veterans with outstanding "skills" might put the fear of God into our political leadership?
As to working "across party line," might I suggest that the search for the lowest common denominator more often than not turns into "bipartisan" action to protect, entrench, and further incumbency rather than unified service in the true public interest?
(Rhetorical question by the way...) (*SMIRK*)
I certainly don’t have all the answers...
No... no you don't.
Indeed, Ms. Snowe... Senator Snowe... dear, sweet Olympia... I would say...
(*PAUSE*)
You... are... a... moron.
[A]s I enter a new chapter in my life...
I wonder how rich Senator Snowe is after nearly 40 years of... er... "public service?"
I wonder how many homes she owns?
(*SHRUG*)
I do not believe that, in the near term, the Senate can correct itself from within.
And on that you're right, Senator! Thus...
(Calling all veterans! Calling all combat veterans! Calling all combat veterans with sniper training...!!!)
I jest.
(Kinda...)
(*SMIRK*)
God forbid I call for any... er... illegal actions to be taken - no matter how dire the future absent such direct citizen action.
Anyway, folks... good riddance; that's what I say!
