Two American soldiers were killed Thursday in a shooting by an Afghan soldier and a literacy teacher at a joint base in southern Afghanistan, officials said, the latest in a series of deaths...
* MURDERS. NOT "DEATHS." MURDERS!
Both were killed on the same day that the top NATO commander allowed a small number of foreign advisers to return to work at Afghan ministries after more than a week of being locked down in secure locations because of the killing of two other Americans.
* THE MURDERS OF TWO OTHER AMERICANS!
Thursday's killings raised to six the number of Americans killed in less than two weeks...

The shootings on Thursday were the latest in a series of attacks by Afghan security forces - or militants disguised in their uniforms - against Americans and other members of the international alliance.
Last month the Pentagon released data showing that 75% of the more than 45 insider attacks since 2007 occurred in the last two years.
Hundreds of advisers were pulled out of ministries and other government locations after an Afghan gunman shot and killed two U.S. military advisers on Feb. 25 inside their office at the Interior Ministry. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the ministry shootings...

The head of the U.N. in Afghanistan said Thursday that the military personnel who had disposed of the Qurans should be punished.
Jan Kubic, who runs the U.N. mission in Afghanistan, told reporters that after "the profound apology there must be the second step" after the completion of the investigation. He said that step was "appropriate disciplinary action."

President Obama said Wednesday that his apology to Afghan President Hamid Karzai after U.S. forces mistakenly burned Muslim Qurans had "calmed things down"...

An Albuquerque, New Mexico, man says he successfully registered his dog to vote in Bernalillo County.
The dog owner said he saw a voter registration booth on the University of New Mexico's campus a few weeks ago and decided to see how easy it would be to register his dog to vote.
He said he was trying to expose the problems with the registration system.
He said he just received the dog's voter registration card in the mail Wednesday, and it was way too easy.
"They should verify. Somebody should have verified this information and somebody should have come out and took a look at exactly who it was. But I made up a birth date, and I made up a social security number and I had a voter registration card in my hand for Buddy two weeks later," the dog owner said.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 contacted the Bernalillo County Clerk's Office. They said state law does not require proof of your social, your date of birth, or even your name.

The Clerk's Office also said they strictly look over all the applications that come from third-party registration agencies before sending out registration cards.

The Energy Department isn’t working to lower gasoline prices directly, Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday after a Republican lawmaker scolded him for his now-infamous 2008 comment that gas prices in the U.S. should be as high as in Europe.
Instead, DOE is working to promote alternatives such as biofuels and electric vehicles, Chu told House appropriators during a hearing on DOE’s budget.

Just one month from today, Japan will lower their corporate income tax rate from 39.5% to 35%.
When they do so, the United States will officially have the dubious distinction of possessing the highest corporate income tax rate in the developed world, a federal/state integrated rate of 39.2%.
To put that in perspective, the average in the developed world (OECD) is only 25%.
Our six major trading partners - Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, and France - will all have a lower rate than we will have.
As a result, capital and jobs will continue to flow overseas, rather than staying here to create jobs, increase wages, fund pensions, invest in new business, or grow nest eggs.
President Obama last month proposed a plan to raise net taxes, but in the process lower the U.S. corporate rate to about 32%.
That simply isn't worth it.
In exchange for a jobs-killing net tax hike, the Obama plan would still leave us with a tax rate higher than the OECD average, and higher than all our major trading partners except Japan and France.

NASA’s inspector general revealed in congressional testimony that a space agency computer was stolen last year with the command codes to control the International Space Station.
[This particular] unencrypted NASA computer stolen last year was one of 48 taken between April 2009 and April 2011.
The Office of Management and Budget reported that only 1% of NASA’s portable devices and laptops have been encrypted this year.
“Until NASA fully implements an Agency-wide data encryption solution, sensitive data on its mobile computing and portable data storage devices will remain at high risk for loss or theft,” Paul K. Martin explained in his testimony.
Last year, NASA was the victim of 47 cyber-attacks, with 13 of those attacks successfully compromising the agency’s computers. In one of those attacks, credentials for more than 150 employees were stolen.
Another attack involved Chinese-based IP addresses that gained full access to systems and sensitive user accounts at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA.
