Barker's Newsbites: Wednesday, November 9, 2011

Can you spare four minutes and thirty-three seconds?

Serious question!

Can you put aside whatever else it is you're doing for four minutes and thirty-three second?

If you can, then please do. If you can't right now... then wait till you have the time to play today's newsbites theme video absent distractions.

When you have the time to do so, turn off your phone first. Dedicate a lousy four minutes and thirty-three seconds to nothing but watching... to listening.

We're in trouble, folks.

Wall Street isn't America. Neither is "Occupy Wall Street."

We're in deep, deep trouble, folks, and we're not going to save this country by letting the mainstream media and the politicians lie to us and manipulate us.

Day in and day out I post my newsbites. I offer my take on what I consider important news... news, facts, and analysis which I believe offers you folks the information you should have - the contextual information you should have - in order to be "part of the solution" rather than "part of the problem."

Tears literally well up every time I hear Ronnie Dunn sing "Cost of Livin'"

I remember feeling the same way back in 1982 when Billy Joel's "Allentown" would play on the radio.

Folks... it's not 1982.

My dad is long dead. His generation - the generation that lived through the Great Depression and fought and won World War Two - is mostly gone.

Ronald Reagan is dead. There's no "new Ronald Reagan" to elect come next November. The best we can hope for is Newt Gingrich...

Folks... think about this: It's not inconceivable that Obama will win re-election! Hell... it's not even inconceivable that Obama will win re-election and that Democrats will retain the Senate!

My point? Our future seems to be dire at worst and... well... uncertain at best.

The Left is deliberately chipping away at the moorings of traditional American culture and the vast majority of establishment Republicans - particularly corporate and financial "movers and shakers" - are more interested in "cooperating" with China so as to achieve short term profits and personal wealth creation via stock appreciation than in beating China and ensuring that the backbone of this nation - our lower-middle and middle classes - have meaningful, gainful employment.

Understand, folks... no Reagan... no Thatcher... no John Paul II... no World War Two generation... Eisenhower era and even Kennedy era Americans largely retired... the "Big Three" little more than punching bags for a South Korean car company named Hyundai...

Folks... my God... look around you! Consider where our nation stands in 2011 vs. where we stood - what our existing capacities and reserves were - even in 1982!

We are not the men and women our grandparents were and most of us - even if we make more money, have more "toys," go out to dinner more and take more elaborate vacations than - aren't even the men and women our parents were.

Entire regions and cities of America are no longer America for all intents and purposes!

Folks... it's not enough to silently nod your heads in agreement with me nor to get as choked up as I do watching the Dunn video. You need to get involved.

This blog is my way of getting involved. Sharing and communicating... hopefully teaching... that's how I'm involved.

Reaching out to my elected officials and to the media and to my fellow Americans... that's how I'm involved.

I'm begging the rest of you: Get involved yourselves. To those already involved... do more.

Folks... our country is truly on the line. Our children's futures... our grandchildren's futures... only we have the power to ensure them - or at least try.

http://blog.heritage.org/2011/11/08/obama-couldnt-wait-his-new-christmas-tree-tax/

President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees - the Christmas Tree Tax - to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

* I'M REFRAINING FROM PUTTING MY REACTION IN WRITING FOR FEAR OF A VISIT FROM THE SECRET SERVICE.

In the Federal Register of November 8, 2011, Acting Administrator of Agricultural Marketing David R. Shipman announced that the Secretary of Agriculture will appoint a Christmas Tree Promotion Board.

* AGAIN... I DON'T NEED A VISIT FROM THE SECRET SERVICE... I DON'T NEED TO GIVE BLOGSPOT A REASON TO SHUT THIS BLOG DOWN.

Acting "Administrator" Shipman had the temerity to say the 15-cent mandatory Christmas tree fee “is not a tax nor does it yield revenue for the Federal government” (76 CFR 69102).

(*BLOOD BOILING*)

The Federal government mandates that the Christmas tree sellers pay the 15-cents per tree, whether they want to or not.

The Federal government directs that the revenue generated by the 15-cent fee goes to the Board appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to carry out the Christmas tree program established by the Secretary of Agriculture.

Mr. President, that’s a new 15-cent tax...

(*BANGING MY HEAD AGAINST THE DESK*)

* FOLKS... IT'S A REAL STRUGGLE TO TO WRITE DOWN WHAT I'M THINKING RIGHT NOW...

http://charlotte.cbslocal.com/2011/11/08/cops-bus-driver-loses-job-after-assaulting-student-who-used-n-word/

* I LIKE MR. RICHARD'S STYLE! HE SHOULD HAVE WAITED, THOUGH, TO GET THIS LITTLE PISSANT ALONE - PREFERABLY AT NIGHT - IN ORDER TO TRULY SCARE THE PISS OUT OF THE PISSANT.

* SERIOUSLY... I'D GIVE MR. RICHARD AN ACD - AN ADJOURNMENT IN CONTEMPLATION OF DISMISSAL. IN OTHER WORDS, NO OFFICIAL "APPROVAL" OF HIS ACTIONS, BUT NO PUNISHMENT EITHER.

A South Carolina school bus driver has been accused of assaulting a 15-year-old boy for allegedly using the N-word.

Witnesses allege that Richard slammed the student’s head into a window on the bus, issued death threats to the student and his family, and vowed to “drag the victim into the school by his neck until he breaks his wind pipe” after the student used the N-word.

(*SHRUG*)

* HEY... I BET THE KID NEVER USES THAT WORD IN FRONT OF A BLACK STRANGER AGAIN! I'D CONSIDER THIS A "TEACHING MOMENT."

When Colleton County authorities responded to the incident, they saw the student — who is white – crying, found red marks around his neck, and his shirt stretched out...

* POOR BABY... (SERVES THE PISSANT RIGHT!) NO PERMANENT HARM; NO FOUL. THAT'S MY TAKE.

Richard told WCSC that he reported the student several weeks earlier for a previous instance where the boy said the word around him, but nothing was done.

(*SHRUG*)

* AND IT'S RICHARD WHO IS SUPPOSEDLY THE BAD GUY HERE...???

The brother of the victim...

(*SMIRK*) (*ROLLING MY EYES*) (*GROANING*)

...told police that his brother reportedly asked Richard why he took offense to him saying the N-word, which prompted the driver to allegedly grab the student and slam his head into the bus window. According to the police report, the 15-year-old boy greeted one of his friends with, “What up, my [N-word]?”

* I ONLY WISH I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHAKE MR. RICHARD'S HAND AND BUY HIM A DRINK!

SWAT teams responded about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to a ranch near Escobares, [Texas,] just across the U.S.-Mexico border, where a shootout broke out south of the Rio Grande.

The shootout reportedly began shortly after noon but details were not immediately available. Border Patrol spokeswoman Rosalinda Huey said agents had been tracking a suspected drug load near La Rosita and pushed it back to Mexico.

* AS OPPOSED TO CAPTURING THE DRUGS AND THE DRUG RUNNERS...??? UH-HUH... THE AGE OF OBAMA AND HOLDER...

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Border Patrol alerted Mexican authorities of the suspected load...

* BUT... BUT... BUT... THE LOAD - AND THE DRUG RUNNERS - WERE IN THE U.S.; WHY WEREN'T THEY CAPTURED HERE...?!?!

The official confirmed a group of as many as 15 gunmen had crossed the Rio Grande, though it remained unclear whether they were Mexican soldiers or cartel gunmen.

(*THROBBING HEADACHE*)

Border Patrol...found an injured Mexican national on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande. Emergency crews rushed the man to an area hospital. The man, a suspected cartel gunman, had been shot by Mexican authorities, a separate U.S. law enforcement official said.

* SO WHY RUSH HIM TO A U.S. HOSPITAL WHERE U.S. TAXPAYERS PAY HIS CARE? WHY NOT SIMPLY HAND HIM OVER TO THE MEXICAN AUTHORITIES... THE ONES WHO HAD SHOT HIM?

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/nov/8/govt-fines-jailed-border-patrol-agents-family/

After "successfully" winning a two-year prison sentence against U.S. Border Patrol Agent Jesus E. Diaz Jr., the Justice Department is now trying to collect a $6,870 fine from his wife, saying it should be paid “immediately” - even though the judge signaled she would have a grace period.

In a notice sent last week the Justice Department said the fines were imposed by the court that found Agent Diaz guilty and sentenced him to prison for "improperly restraining a 15-year-old" suspected of drug smuggling.

* HE WASN'T "SUSPECTED" OF DRUG SMUGGLING. HE WAS CAUGHT RED HANDED! JEEZUS...

“We strongly urge you to pay this debt immediate,” said the notice, which was received by Diana Diaz, who is also a Border Patrol agent.

* FOLKS... IT'S THE CRIMINAL INMATES RUNNING THE ASYLUM. CONGRESS SHOULD IMPEACH ERIC HOLDER AND REMOVE HIM FROM OFFICE.

Newt Gingrich's rise in the polls - from near zero to the third slot in several polls - should come as no surprise to people who have been watching the Republican debates...

"Substance" is too cold a word, perhaps, for the intense feeling that candidate Gingrich delivers so coolly in debates. Too cold too, no doubt, to describe the reactions of his listeners, visible on the faces of the crowds attending these forums - in their expressions, caught on C-SPAN's cameras, in the speed with which their desultory politeness disappears once a Gingrich talk begins. Their disengagement - the tendency to look around the room, chat with their neighbors - vanishes. The room is on high alert.

* I'VE ALWAYS SAID THIS ABOUT NEWT. HAD THE CONSERVATIVE MEDIA BACK IN THE '90's BEEN IN THE POSITION IT'S IN TODAY, NEWT MIGHT NEVER HAVE BEEN DEMONIZED AND TOPPLED.

* UNFILTERED EXPOSURE TO NEWT GINGRICH WHERE ONE SEES AND LISTENS TO THE MAN DIRECTLY - WITH GINGRICH HIMSELF GIVEN THE TIME AND SPACE TO ELABORATE AND GIVE CONTEXT TO HIS POSITIONS - WILL LEAD ANY BUT THE MOST LEFTIST OF AMERICANS TO VIEW HIM AS ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE.

The former speaker of the House is a dab hand at drawing listeners in, for good reason - he showers them with details, facts and history in a degree no candidate in recent memory has even approached. Audiences have a way of rewarding such trust.

His greatest asset lies in his capacity to speak to Americans as he has done, with such potency, during the Republican debates. No candidate in the field comes close to his talent for connection. There's no underestimating the importance of such a power in the presidential election ahead, or any other one.

His rise in the polls suggests that more and more Republicans are absorbing that fact, along with the possibility that Mr. Gingrich's qualifications all 'round could well make him the most formidable contender for the contest with Barack Obama.

* I URGE YOU ALL TO READ THE FULL PIECE.

Until recently, over 90% of LIRR workers retired with a disability - even those who worked desk jobs - adding about $36,000 to their annual pensions. The cost to New York taxpayers over the past decade was $300 million.

* A CULTURE OF CORRUPTION.

The LIRR disability epidemic is hardly unique - 82% of senior California state troopers are "disabled" in their last year before retirement. Pension abuses are so common - for example, "spiking" pensions with excess overtime in the last year of employment - that they're taken for granted.

* 82%... STATE POLICE... LAW "ENFORCEMENT" OFFICERS... THE GOOD GUYS... (*SIGH*)

To understand why 90% of U.S. mortgages are still underwritten by taxpayers, look no further than the nearby letter from Ron Phipps of the Realtors lobby.

He makes clear that the Realtors, like the rest of the housing-subsidy crowd, are working hard to get Congress to reinstate a $729,750 loan-limit for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guarantees.

The Realtor letter is at least educational, a reminder that one reason the U.S. economy is so burdened with government is that many alleged capitalists want government to guarantee their business.

That's known as crony capitalism.

http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/emails-show-obama-donor-discussed-solyndra-wh

Newly obtained emails released by House investigators suggest that George Kaiser, a billionaire Obama donor and chief investor in bankrupt solar panel manufacturer Solyndra, discussed the company with White House officials, directly contradicting earlier accounts.

* CONTRADICTING EARLIER ACCOUNTS...???

[Excerpting] one from March 5, 2010 between Kaiser and Steve Mitchell, Kaiser’s venture capital firm Argonaut: "BTW, a couple of weeks ago, when Ken and I were visiting with a group of Administration folks in DC who are in charge of the stimulus process (White House, not DOE) and Solyndra came up, every one of them responded simultaneously about their thorough knowledge of the Solyndra story, suggesting it was one of their prime poster children."

Yet both Kaiser and the White House previously denied Solyndra was ever discussed in any of his 17 visits to the White House.

Last month, ABC reported: Kaiser has "said publically that Solyndra was not discussed at these meetings, and we have no reason to dispute that," the White House official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he had not been given approval to discuss the matter. "We understand that the conversations in these meetings were focused on the general policy priorities of the George Kaiser Family Foundation, including early childhood education and poverty, health care policy and energy policy."

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/why-msnbc-analyst-pat-buchanan-wont-be-on-msnbc-to-promote-his-book_b97351

He once hosted a two-hour show on the network, but these days Pat Buchanan couldn’t get on MSNBC if he checked in at security under the name Bill Press.

Buchanan is doing the rounds promoting his new book Suicide of a Superpower. He’s been on CNN, with Erin Burnett, and on Fox News, with Sean Hannity and Megyn Kelly and he was on FBN last night (anchor David Asman called it “a terrific new book”). But the MSNBC political analyst has not - and will not - be on MSNBC to talk about the book, which is #18 on the New York Times Best Seller list.

An MSNBC executive told HuffPo‘s Michael Calderone that there had been a conscious decision not to have Buchanan on air because of the views expressed in the book...
