Barker's Newsbites: Monday, October 24, 2011

Remember when Born Free was aired on network TV - during prime time - once a year and the whole family would gather to watch it together?

I miss my America.

My America was so much better than today's America.

* SUBTITLE: "WHAT THE FUCK HAS OBAMA GOTTEN US INTO...?!?!"

Amid mounting questions about just how and when Muammar Qaddafi died, a GlobalPost analysis of video footage suggests a Libyan fighter sodomized the former dictator after he was captured near Sirte.

A frame by frame analysis of this exclusive GlobalPost video clearly shows the rebel trying to insert some kind of stick or knife into Gaddafi's rear end.

GlobalPost correspondent Tracey Shelton said there is some question as to whether the instrument was a knife from the end of a gun, which Libyans call a Bicketti, or a utilitiy tool known as a Becker Knife and Tool, which is popularly known as a BKT.

In video clips that have emerged of his capture, Gaddafi can be seen injured but alive.

Later he is seen with what appears to be gunshot wounds to his head and chest.

* OH, YEAH, FOLKS... WE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE PROUD! OBAMA AND CLINTON... HOPE AND CHANGE INDEED.

In Sonoma County, a California driver's license is accepted as valid identification - but so is a card issued by the Mexican consulate.

* FOLKS... WE'RE LIVING IN A NIGHTMARE.

Mexican nationals will be able to give their country's state-issued identification cards as valid ID to Santa Rosa police officers and Sonoma County sheriffs, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported.

The idea is to reduce the immigration-related duties of local cops, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported.

* UH-HUH...

Accepting Mexican consulate-issued cards will reduce the number of people booked into jail for lacking ID, and ergo, will reduce deportations from Santa Rosa County Jail, the newspaper reported.

* AND... THIS IS SOMEHOW A GOOD THING...?!?!

"Today is a great day," Sonoma County Assistant Sheriff Lorenzo Dueñas said. "We're now going to accept the matriculár consular ID."

* FOLKS... YA CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP!

Advocates for immigrants point out that almost half of the 921 immigrants turned over to ICE authorities by the jails had not committed a crime, and another third had committed minor offenses, the newspaper reported.

* OH... WELL... IF IT'S ONLY "MINOR" OFFENSES, THEN...

(*PUTTING THE PISTOL INTO MY MOUTH*)

* WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE WORLD "ILLEGAL" IN THE IDENTIFIER "ILLEGAL ALIEN" THAT SOME PEOPLE DON'T GET...?

Mexican nationals will need to apply to the consulate for such a card. The consulate will likely set up shop in the area to both issue cards and instruct people how to do so, the newspaper reported.

* THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM.

President Obama inherited a deep recession and financial crisis resulting from problems that had been building for years. Those responsible include borrowers and lenders on Wall Street and Main Street, the Federal Reserve, regulatory agencies, ratings agencies, presidents and Congress.

Mr. Obama's successor will inherit his deficits and debt (i.e., pressure for higher taxes), inflation and dollar decline.

Nearly three years since his election and more than two years since the economic recovery began, Mr. Obama has enacted myriad policies at great expense to American taxpayers and amid political rancor. An interim evaluation is in order.

[T]he failed stimulus bill cost an astounding $280,000 per job - over five times median pay - by the administration's inflated estimates of jobs "created or saved," and much [,much] more using more realistic estimates. And even Mr. Obama now admits that the shovels weren't ready in all those "shovel-ready" stimulus projects.

Cash for clunkers cost $3 billion, just to shift car sales forward a few months.

The Public-Private Investment Partnership, despite cheap federal loans, generated 3% of the $1 trillion claimed, and toxic assets still hobble some financial institutions.

The Dodd-Frank financial reform law institutionalized "too big to fail" amid greater concentration of banking assets and mortgages in Fannie and Freddie.

The foreclosure relief program permanently modified only a small percentage of the four million mortgages the president promised.

Perpetually overpromising and underdelivering is not remotely good enough, not even for government work. No corporate CEO could survive such a clear history of failure. The economic records set on Mr. Obama's watch really are historic. These include the first downgrade of sovereign U.S. debt in American history, and, relative to GDP, the highest federal spending in U.S. history save the peak years of World War II, plus the highest federal debt since just after World War II.

The employment picture doesn't look any better. The fraction of the population working is the lowest since 1983. Long-term unemployment is by far the highest since the Great Depression. Job growth during the first two years of recovery after a severe recession is the slowest in postwar history.

The home-ownership rate is the lowest since 1965 and foreclosures are at a post-Depression high.

[T]he share of Americans paying income taxes is the lowest in the modern era, while dependency on government is the highest in U.S. history.

President Obama constantly reminds us, with some justification, that he was dealt a difficult hand. But the evidence is overwhelming that he played it poorly. His big government spending, debt and regulation fix has clearly failed. Relative to previous recoveries from deep recessions, the results are disastrous. A considerable fraction of current joblessness, lower living standards, dependency on government and destroyed savings is the result. Worse, his debt explosion will be a drag on economic growth for years to come.

[I]s he [only] going to [continue to] propose the same failed policies - more spending, social engineering, temporary tax cuts and permanent tax hikes?

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/589186/201110241855/Prolonging-The-Foreclosure-Mess.htm

The president's barren jobs program has also forced him to go back to the drawing board on his mortgage program. His latest anti-foreclosure tonic merely doubles-down on failure.

Stubbornly high unemployment has made it harder for people to pay their mortgages, adding to the already record number of foreclosures plaguing the economy. The housing overhang, coupled with weak demand, has depressed home values further.

And now even more borrowers owe more on their mortgage than their home is worth.

Obama's answer is to open up his disappointing Home Affordable Refinance Program to all underwater borrowers, a growing class of debtors who, alarmingly, now account for nearly a quarter of the nation's homeowners.

(*HEADACHE*)

HARP had been limited to those owing up to 25% above their home's value. But once people started the application process for a HARP refinance, they found out they owed more than 125% of the value of their home and couldn't qualify.

Of the 11 million homes underwater, fewer than 900,000 borrowers have opted to go through HARP since the program was rolled out in 2009.

Now the sky's the limit.

* AND OF COURSE REPUBLICANS WILL KEEP THEIR MOUTHS LARGELY CLOSED AND REFUSE TO CHALLENGE OBAMA ON THIS MISUSE OF EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY WHICH UNDERCUTS CONGRESS' CLEAR CONSTITUTIONAL ROLE.

"It's the equivalent of a substantial tax cut for these families," HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan said.

But it's a potential tax hike for all Americans.

* To be continued...

William R. Barker said...

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

Say a borrower going through HARP decides that a few hundred bucks in monthly savings don't outweigh the tens of thousands of dollars owed beyond the value of the house. He walks on it anyway. Guess who takes the loss? Taxpayer-backed Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, that's who.

(*SIGH*) YEP... OBAMANOMICS...

Under Obama's plan, only loans guaranteed by Fannie and Freddie are eligible. The failed mortgage giants have already cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, and the price tag just keeps climbing higher.

In effect, Obama is trying to keep people in homes they can't afford at the expense of homeowners who borrowed responsibly.

* YEP! AGAIN... THAT'S OBAMANOMICS! (THIS AIN'T SARCASM OR SNARK, FOLKS; I'M ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS AS IS THE AUTHOR OF THIS PIECE! MORAL HAZARD ISN'T A NEGATIVE TO OBAMA AND HIS ILK - IT'S A WAY OF LIFE!

And it's just more of the same economic micromanaging. The modified plan does nothing to solve the core problem of sinking home values and rising household debt - which are both functions of a business world too anxious over Obama regulations to create jobs and raise wages. The plan also invites more government meddling in the mortgage business, which is the chief reason homeowners are in the mess they're in in the first place.

(*NOD*)

It not only trashes loan-to-value requirements and other lending standards - applicants can miss a mortgage payment in the last year - but also requires banks to suspend appraisal fees, points and other closing costs normally charged during the refinancing process.

* HOW SUCH A GOVERNMENT FIAT PASSES CONSTITUTIONAL MUSTER I HAVE NO IDEA. THINK ABOUT IT FOLKS... IF OBAMA CAN SIMPLE COMMAND THE ARTIFICIAL "PERSON" IN THE FORM OF A CORPORATION TO GIVE AWAY ITS SERVICES, DOESN'T LOGIC DICTATE THAT A PRESIDENT HAS THE AUTHORITY TO SIMPLY ORDER CITIZENS TO WORK FOR FREE?

The new mortgage relief program comes on top of Obama's other failed mortgage plan — the Home Affordable Modification Program. ... Obama first reckoned HAMP would help over 4 million homeowners. To date, only about a half-million people have enrolled in the program. A study found most of the participants wind up re-defaulting. [Geithner] has tried to hide HAMP's problems, but it's an abject failure.

All these programs do is prolong the foreclosure mess. And yet such government programs, once put into effect, tend to take on a life of their own. It doesn't matter how much they cost or how well they work, they morph into something worse. When this latest iteration fails to work, expect Obama's Brain Trust to cow banks into slashing mortgage principal, too.

* AGAIN... WOULDN'T THAT ON ITS FACE BE AN UNCONSTITUTIONAL "TAKING?" (IN MY AMERICA IT SURELY WOULD BE; IN OBAMA'S AMERICA... "WHAT CONSTITUTION...?!?!")
