http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/usps-proposes-cutting-120000-jobs-pulling-out-of-health-care-plan/2011/08/11/gIQAZxIM9I_print.html

The financially strapped U.S. Postal Service is proposing to cut its workforce by 20% and to withdraw from the federal health and retirement plans because it believes it could provide benefits at a lower cost.

* FOLKS... THE PROBLEMS AT THE POST OFFICE ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF GOVERNMENT INCOMPETENCE AND A REFUSAL OF POLITICIAN - BOTH DEMPUBLICANS AND REPUBLICRATS - TO ACKNOWLEDGE ECONOMIC REALITY. YES... OBAMA IS AT FAULT - AS WAS BUSH BEFORE HIM, CLINTON BEFORE HIM, BUSH BEFORE HIM... (*SIGH*) - BUT THEIR FAILURES WERE AND ARE FAILURES TO PROVIDE PROACTIVE LEADERSHIP; ULTIMATELY, THE KEY BLAME FALLS UPON THOSE SELFISH DIMWITS IN CONGRESS - AND IN CONGRESSES PAST.

* FOLKS... BOTTOM LINE... CUTTING THROUGH ALL THE RHETORIC... CONGRESS - INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS WHOSE INDIVIDUAL ACTIONS END UP WORKING IN CONCERT - HAS LONG DENIED THE POST OFFICE THE ABILITY TO RATIONALIZE AND REFORM ITSELF UPON SUSTAINABLE (LET ALONE PROFITABLE!) LINES.

* FOLKS... EXPANDING THIS RANT... (*PAUSE*)... NOTICE THAT CONGRESS IS AT THE ROOT OF MOST OF OUR NATION'S PROBLEMS?

(*SIGH*)

The layoffs would be achieved in part by breaking labor agreements, a proposal that drew swift fire from postal unions. The plan would require congressional approval...

* YEAH... RIGHT... (*SNORT*)... AS IF THE DEMS WOULD SUPPORT THIS (OR EVEN THE REPUBLICANS).

* FOLKS... THE DEMPUBLICANS AND REPUBLICRATS HAVE SET UP THIS NATION FOR A FALL. AND THEM...? THEM AS MEMBERS OF CONGRESS...? A "FALL" FOR THE AVERAGE U.S SENATOR WOULD BE FOR THE AVERAGE MIDDLE CLASS AMERICAN A HUGE STEP UP THE ECONOMIC LADDER!

* FOLKS... THE GAME IS RIGGED SO IF WE "WIN" THEY WIN; IF WE LOSE THEY WIN; IF THEY LOSE... WELL... THEY'RE STILL "FAIRLY" RICH AND POWERFUL. (MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON THIS ONCE GREAT REPUBLIC.)

In a notice informing employees of its proposals - with the headline “Financial Crisis Calls for Significant Actions” - the Postal Service said, “We will be insolvent next month due to significant declines in mail volume and retiree health benefit pre-funding costs imposed by Congress.”

* FOLKS... READ THAT AGAIN:

In a notice informing employees of its proposals - with the headline “Financial Crisis Calls for Significant Actions” - the Postal Service said, “We will be insolvent next month due to significant declines in mail volume and retiree health benefit pre-funding costs imposed by Congress.”

(*LEAPING OUT OF MY CHAIR TO BANG MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL*)

During the past four years, the service lost $20 billion, including $8.5 billion in fiscal 2010.

“The Postal Service is facing dire economic challenges that threaten its very existence. ... If the Postal Service was a private sector business, it would have filed for bankruptcy and utilized the reorganization process to restructure its labor agreements to reflect the new financial reality,” the [notice] continues.“The Postal Service is facing dire economic challenges that threaten its very existence. ... If the Postal Service was a private sector business, it would have filed for bankruptcy and utilized the reorganization process to restructure its labor agreements to reflect the new financial reality,” the document continues.

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

* FOLKS... ANYONE WANNA TAKE A BET CONCERNING WHETHER THE DEMPUBLICANS AND REPUBLICRATS - WITH SUPPORT FROM THE WHITE HOUSE OF COURSE - BAIL OUT THE POST OFFICE RATHER THAN ALLOW IT TO RATIONALIZE ITSELF?

* FOLKS... IF YOU HAVE THE STOMACH FOR IT, FINISH READING THE FULL ARTICLE FOR YOURSELVES VIA THE LINK PROVIDED.

http://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/bill-kellys-truth-squad/2011/aug/11/media-cover-up-durbin-confrontation-reporter/

This week U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) held a press conference with members of the mainstream media to talk about the downgrade crisis. But the Senator’s scripted storyline veered off-course when a conservative reporter – me – showed up to ask an embarrassing question. Namely, “Senator, you’ve blamed the tea party…but do you bear any responsibility for this downgrade crisis?”

What, you didn’t hear about this incident in the media?

(*SNORT*) (*CHUCKLE*)

For those of you that need more proof that journalism is dead, read on.

Monday was another beautiful day for a mainstream media cover-up in Chicago. But it would not have been complete without a picnic-basket full of hypocrisy from our very own U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois.

You may remember Dick. He’s the Senator that hysterically compared the treatment of the Gitmo detainees to Nazis, Soviet gulags, and Pol Pot.

* OH, YEAH... WE REMEMBER DICK!

While calling for an end to “hateful” rhetoric, he’s the one who wrongfully pointed his crooked finger at the Tea Party Movement and Gov. Sarah Palin, blaming them for the Tucson massacre and the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

(*NOD*)

Recently, he’s the one that, hypocritically, accused the Tea Party Republicans of “political extortion” in the debt ceiling debate.

* FOLKS... YA JUST GOTTA LAUGH... EITHER THAT OR CRY!

While the markets were tanking Durbin took some time out to have a press conference and dish to his friends in the Chicago media about the S&P downgrade of our nation’s sterling credit rating. Given his history, I expected more of the same accusatory rhetoric about the tea party from Durbin. Since the report of the downgrade hit the newswires last Friday, members of Durbin’s party have been in full anti-tea party spin control. “The fact of the matter is that this is essentially a tea party downgrade,” said former White House advisor David Axelrod on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Sen. John Kerry must have received the same memo. “This is the tea party downgrade,” said Kerry on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

* YEP. TOTALLY SCRIPTED. (*SHRUG*)

I went to Durbin’s press conference to set the record straight. My objective: some journalistic balance. Not only did Durbin refuse to answer the question but his cronies in the Chicago media went on the attack.

(One of those crony journalists was Jim Anderson, news director for the Illinois Radio Network.)

During my exchange with him, Sen. Durbin told (instructed) the media, “You guys aren’t going to cover this are you?” And the media…didn’t.

(*SMIRK*)

The economic crisis is not helped by a compliant, subservient media that tampers with news to help their candidates and causes.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/general_business/august_2011/48_think_spending_cuts_could_trigger_violence

* HEY, FOLKS... (*SMIRK*)... IT AIN'T JUST ME! (READ ON!)

Nearly one-out-of-two Americans (48%) think that cuts in government spending are at least somewhat likely to lead to violence in the United States, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

(But that includes just 13% who feel it’s Very Likely.)

(Only 12% say it’s Not At All Likely.)

Americans under 50 raise the possibility of violence more than their elders.

Most adults not affiliated with either party (58%) think spending cuts are likely to trigger violence, compared to 46% of Republicans and 42% of Democrats.

Just 22% of voters approve of the debt ceiling deal recently reached by the president and Congress, and most doubt it will actually reduce government spending.

* UMM... PERHAPS BECAUSE IT WON'T! INDEED, GOVERNMENT SPENDING ROSE ALMOST 3% THIS YEAR OVER LAST YEAR. (AS NOTED IN A WEDNESDAY NEWSBITE, "FOR THE FIRST 10 MONTHS OF THE BUDGET YEAR, SPENDING HAS RISEN 2.4%...)

In addition to cutting a trillion dollars over the next 10 years, the two sides also agreed...

* HOLD IT! HOLD IT!! HOLD IT!!! FOLKS... WE'VE BEEN OVER THIS BEFORE - AD NAUSEUM - THESE ARE "CUTS" FROM AUTOMATIC INCREASES THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT... THE NATIONAL DEBT IS SET TO INCREASE BY BETWEEN $7 TRILLION AND $13 TRILLION OVER THE NEXT 10 YEARS THANKS TO THIS "DEAL" THE DEMPUBLICANS AND REPUBLICRATS HAVE GIVEN US.

* FOLKS... UNDERSTAND... IT'S BY PROMOTING A FALSE PERCEPTION THAT POLLING IS SKEWED! (INDEED, I WAS "LECTURING" ON THIS CONCEPT EARLIER IN AN EMAIL EXCHANGE WITH A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE.)

[V]oters feel more strongly than ever that decreasing government spending is good for the economy and think tax increases of any kind are a bad economic move. Sixty-seven percent (67%) think that thoughtful spending cuts should be considered in every program of the federal government.

* AND SO THE MEDIA LARGELY CONSPIRES WITH THE POLITICIANS TO MISIDENTIFY "CUTS" IN THEIR REPORTING. (*SHRUG*) FOLKS... IT'S DISGUSTING. IT'S TRAGIC. IT'S "REPORTING AS USUAL" AS "COMPLIMENT" TO "POLITICS AS USUAL."
