Barker's Newsbites: Monday, May 23, 2011

No more "kicks" for Joplin, Missouri.

Folks... just because the world didn't end on Saturday night for most of us, the fact is that this nation and our people have been hit again and again by natural as well as man-made disasters over this decade.

The economy is not getting better. Nor will it until - or rather unless - we change course drastically.

Those filthy, rotten, incompetent, self-serving politicians in Washington and embedded within state and municipal governments across the country are destroying our country.

Our federal officials borrow 40-cents (at the very least!) of every dollar that Washington spends on the operating budget of the United States!

We've spent well over a trillion dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan and we continue to spend hundreds of billions yearly - nearly ten years after 9/11!

My God, people... the tornadoes this year... just so far...

The flooding...

And meanwhile... (*SIGH*)... where's the President of the United States...?

It's a nightmare, people.

In the wake of the US raid in Abbottabad that killed Osama bin Laden, China has warned in unequivocal terms that "any attack on Pakistan would be construed as an attack on China,” a media report claimed today.

The warning was formally conveyed by the Chinese foreign minister at last week's China-US strategic dialogue and economic talks in Washington. The News daily quoted diplomatic sources as saying China also advised the USA "to respect Pakistan's sovereignty and solidarity” the report said.

* IN RETURN:

Pakistan reiterated its position on the one-China policy and said it fully supported China on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet.

(*SARCASTIC CLAP-CLAP-CLAP*)

* OH, YEAH... WITH OBAMA IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON AT FOGGY BOTTOM... (*SNICKER*)... EVERYTHING'S UNDER CONTROL.

China has agreed to provide Pakistan 50 new JF-17 Thunder multi-role jets under a co-production agreement, The News reported. It is likely that these planes will be supplied by June next year.

* FOLKS... IN ALL SERIOUSNESS... OBAMA AND CLINTON ARE OBVIOUSLY IN WELL OVER THEIR HEADS. THIS IS SERIOUS SHIT!

Pakistan has asked China to build a naval base at its south-western port of Gwadar and expects the Chinese navy to maintain a regular presence there...

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

“We have asked our Chinese brothers to please build a naval base at Gwadar,” Chaudhary Ahmed Mukhtar, Pakistan’s defence minister, told the Financial Times, confirming that the request was conveyed to China during a visit last week by Yusuf Raza Gilani, Pakistan’s prime minister.

* OUR "CHINESE BROTHERS..." (*SIGH*)

A senior Pakistani official familiar with Sino-Pakistani discussions on naval co-operation said: “The naval base is something we hope will allow Chinese vessels to regularly visit in [the] future and also use the place for repair and maintenance of their fleet in the [Indian Ocean region].” Such a foothold would be the first overseas location offering support to the People’s Liberation Army navy for future out-of-area missions...

* BY THE HON. RON PAUL (R-TX)

As of this month, our “official” national debt - which doesn’t include the staggering future payments promised to Social Security and Medicare beneficiaries - stands at $14.2 trillion.

If the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives gives in to establishment pressure by voting to increase the debt ceiling once again, you will know that the status quo has prevailed.

[L]ike any debtor that has to reduce spending, the federal government simply needs to establish priorities and stop spending money on anything other than those priorities.

* FOR EXAMPLE:

Interest payments on our federal bond debt likely will amount to about $500 billion for fiscal year 2011, an average of $41 billion per month.

* THAT'S A PRIORITY!

Federal tax revenues vary by month, but should total around $2 trillion to $2.5 trillion for FY 2011- an average of perhaps $180 billion per month. [C]learly the federal government has sufficient tax revenue to make interest payments to our creditors.

(*NOD*)

What nobody wants to admit is this: even if the federal government has only $1.5 trillion remaining to spend in 2011 after interest payments, this is plenty to fund the constitutional functions of government. After all, the entire federal budget in 1990 was about $1 trillion. Does anyone seriously believe the federal government was too small or too frugal just 20 years ago?

(*SNORT*) (*CHUCKLE*)

The truth is, in spite of how cataclysmic some might say it would be if we did not pass a new debt ceiling, it is hardly the catastrophe that has been advertised.

(*NOD*)

When our creditors finally wise up and cut us off, we will be forced to face economic realities whether we want to or not. It would be easier to deal with the tough choices we face now, on our own terms, rather than wait until we are at the mercy of foreign creditors.

[In a] 5-4 decision...[the U.S.] Supreme Court ordered California on Monday to release tens of thousands of its prisoners to relieve overcrowding...

(*BLOOD SHOOTING OUT OF MY EYES*)

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, speaking for the majority, said California's prisons had "fallen short of minimum constitutional requirements" because of overcrowding.

* ANTHONY KENNEDY IS A MORON, HE'S ALWAYS BEEN A MORON, AND HE'LL ALWAYS BE A MORON.

* AS YOU'D EXPECT, THE OTHER DUMMIES WERE GINSBURG, BREYER, SOTOMAYOR, AND KAGAN.

In dissent, Justice Antonin Scalia called the ruling "staggering" and "absurd." He said the high court had repeatedly overruled the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for ordering the release of individual prisoners. Now, he said, the majority were ordering the release of "46,000 happy-go-lucky felons." He added that "terrible things are sure to happen as a consequence of this outrageous order." Justice Clarence Thomas agreed with him.

In a separate dissent, Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said the ruling conflicted with a federal law intended to limit the power of federal judges to order a release of prisoners.

"If I need to send letters to the rating companies to tell them the treasurer of Illinois is opposed to more borrowing, I'm going to do that," said [Illinois] Republican Treasurer Dan Rutherford.

Rutherford says the debt from past borrowing has soared to $45 billion in recent years, which amounts to $10,000 for every household in the state. As a result, Illinois has the second-worst credit rating in the nation, above only California, he added.

Thousands of companies that cashed in on President Barack Obama's "economic stimulus package" owed the government millions in unpaid taxes, congressional investigators have found.

(*SNORT*)

The GAO, in a report being released Tuesday, said at least 3,700 government contractors and nonprofit organizations that received more than $24 billion from the stimulus effort owed $757 million in back taxes as of Sept. 30, 2009, the end of the budget year.

* OUTSTANDING...! (*SARCASTIC CLAP-CLAP-CLAP*)

The report said the tax delinquents accounted for nearly 6% of the 63,000 contractors and grantees examined, and it cautioned that the real number might be higher because the known tax debt does not measure such factors as income underreporting.

* O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A!

Among the examples was an engineering firm that received a $100,000 stimulus act contract but owed $6 million in taxes. (The IRS called it "an extreme case of noncompliance.") A social services nonprofit that received more than $1 million in stimulus funds owed taxes of $2 million.

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Federal law does not prohibit tax delinquents from getting government contracts or grants...

* YEP! READ IT AS MANY TIMES AS YOU CAN HANDLE... BUT IT'LL KEEP ON SAYING THE SAME THING!
