* FERGUSON, MO.

Several businesses were looted, including a check-cashing store, a boutique and a small grocery store.

* SHOOT... THE... LOOTERS...

People took items from a sporting goods store and a cellphone retailer, and carted rims away from a tire store.

* SHOOT... THE... LOOTERS...

Some climbed atop police cars as the officers with riot shields and batons stood stoic nearby, trying to restrict access to the most seriously affected areas.

* KNOCK 'EM ON THEIR ASSES - GET 'EM OFF THE CARS - AND TAKE 'EM TO JAIL.

Nearly three dozen people were arrested...

* GOOD... BUT NO GOOD ENOUGH. CIVILIZED SOCIETIES DON'T ALLOW LOOTING. PERIOD. WHAT OF THE STORE OWNERS? WHAT OF THE EMPLOYEES? WHAT OF THE LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS? A CIVILIZED SOCIETY DOES NOT ALLOW ANIMALS TO RUN RIOT.

Questions loomed over the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who police said was unarmed and shot multiple times Saturday after an altercation with an officer in Ferguson.

The FBI said it opened an investigation Monday into the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by police in suburban St. Louis, a day after tension surrounding the case erupted in unrest following a candlelight vigil for the teen. The FBI is looking into possible civil rights violations arising from the shooting, said Cheryl Mimura, a spokeswoman for the FBI's St. Louis field office. But she noted that the FBI would be investigating such a shooting regardless of the public attention surrounding it.

* AND THAT'S ALL WELL AND GOOD. (NOT THAT I TRUST ERIC HOLDER'S FBI... BUT... SURE... I WANT THE MATTER THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED AND IF THE COPS ARE THE BAD GUYS... SO BE IT... PUNISH THEM... "REFORM" THE ENTIRE POLICE FORCE IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES... BUT THE RIOTING... THE LOOTING... NO EXCUSE.

Deanel Trout, a 14-year resident of Ferguson, said he was convinced the troublemakers were largely from outside Ferguson and that they had used Brown's death and the vigil as an opportunity to steal. "Most came here for a peaceful protest but it takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch. ... I can understand the anger and unrest but I can't understand the violence and looting," Trout, 53, said.

* THE DEANEL TROUTS OF FERGUSON ARE THE ONES WHO MUST BE PROTECTED!

* SO DECLARES THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. OF COURSE... FUNDING... THAT'S A STATE AND LOCAL PROBLEM - THE FEDS WILL KICK IN WHAT THEY FEEL IS APPROPRIATE. Labor Secretary-turned-college professor Robert Reich’s latest lectures on income inequality don't square with his $240,000 salary for teaching just one class, economists tell FoxNews.com.

* HEY! HEY! HEY! THAT CLASS MAY WELL RUN FOR 90 MINUTES TWO OR EVEN THREE TIMES A WEEK!

* HMM... I WONDER HOW MANY TA's A "NAME" PROFESSOR LIKE REICH HAS...?

Reich, who served in the Clinton White House and is now a professor of public policy at the University of California at Berkeley, took on the topic of “Work and Worth” in an Aug. 2 post on his blog. In it, he lamented that there is “little or no relationship” between what someone is paid and their actual worth to society, and he wrapped up his post by calling for student loans to be forgiven for graduates in fields like social work, nursing and teaching.

"The moral crisis of our age has nothing to do with gay marriage or abortion; it’s insider trading, obscene CEO pay, wage theft from ordinary workers, Wall Street’s continued gambling addiction, corporate payoffs to friendly politicians, and the billionaire takeover of our democracy," Reich wrote in a separate Facebook post.

* AND I'M IN PARTIAL... PERHAPS EVEN LARGE... AGREEMENT WITH HIM ON WHAT THE PROBLEMS ARE! (IT'S HIS "SOLUTIONS" THAT SUCK!)

But a professor who earns a one-percenter's income for a relatively easy workload has a tough time complaining about how unfair the economy is, according to some critics.

* HEY... TO BE FAIR... HE'S NO DOUBT A "RESEARCH" PROFESSOR - MEANING TEACHING IS HIS MINOR ROLE. THAT SAID... HOW MUCH DOES HIS RESEARCH THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY BENEFIT HIM AS WELL AS THE UNIVERSITY? (MEANING HOW MUCH IS A DOUBLE-DIP?)

“It’s definitely hypocritical,” said Dan Mitchell of the Washington-based Cato Institute. “And not only does he earn that salary, but I’m sure he pulls in a lot of money from consulting and from giving speeches. But he’s obviously in the top 1 or 2 percent, so if he really thinks that society mismeasures these things, then why isn’t he giving some of his money away?”

* PERHAPS HE DOES! (BUT THE POINT IS THAT HE'S ACCEPTING THE SORT OF COMPENSATION HE SUPPOSEDLY DEPLORES...)

Reich, whose latest work, “Beyond Outrage,” is now available in paperback, was unavailable for comment Wednesday. He earned $242,613 in 2013, according to a University of California compensation website.

“Professor Reich is out of town, and off the grid for the rest of the summer, unfortunately,” his assistant wrote FoxNews.com. “Thank you for thinking of Professor Reich.”

* AH, YES... "OFF FOR THE SUMMER." NICE. (SO WE'RE NOT REALLY TALKING $242,613 FOR THE YEAR... BUT RATHER FOR PART OF A YEAR... A MUCH SMALLER PART THAN MOST WORKERS WORK BE THEY BUS DRIVERS OR OWNERS OF THEIR OWN SUCCESSFUL LIGHTING DESIGN FIRM!)

The tenor of Reich’s recent posts reeks of “wealthy dilettante leftism,” Mitchell said, especially when considering that higher education costs have increased far faster than the rate of inflation in recent years.

“So, if we’re worrying about people getting exploited, why not focus on the students and the bureaucracy and the higher education system as a whole? That might be a good place to start,” Mitchell said.

On the dry mountain, they fight with the goats for the remaining water.

In the distance, the lights of Islamic State checkpoints loom menacingly.

Yesterday, those stuck behind Islamic State lines began reporting the group's latest slaughter: hundreds of members of their arcane but colourful sect massacred for refusing to convert to Islam.

* I JUST CHECKED THE NTY. YESTERDAY ALISSA J. RUBIN REPORTED (PARAGRAPH 17) "At least 500 Yazidis have been killed by ISIS fighters since they seized Sinjar this month, according to Iraq’s human rights minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani."

* BASICALLY... THE U.S. MSM DOESN'T SEEN ALL THAT INTERESTED...

On the mountain, the rumors from their relatives only added to the sense of panic and despair. One man told this reporter, the only Western news correspondent on Mount Sinjar, that jihadists had stormed through his village, killing every adult, healthy male. Others talked of hundreds of women being abducted. Reports came in elsewhere of women and children being buried alive. Meanwhile, the survivors on the mountain were fighting off thirst and disease. The thousands of people left on this mountainside are covered in goat droppings, and have no water to drink, let alone to wash it off.

The children all have diarrhoea. Those who have wounds - common, everyday wounds, of feet injured by broken glass, or less common ones such as old shrapnel injuries - see their infections grow without respite. There was no medical care until the arrival of the Iraqi army medical team, and the result is a humanitarian disaster of unimaginable proportions.

* HEY... FOLKS... YA NEED TO UNDERSTAND... ALL NEWS MUST BE FOCUSED UPON THOSE EVIL JEWS AND THE BLESSED PALESTINIAN PEOPLE! SCREW THE CHRISTIANS!

There are two ways off the mountain. The Iraqi army helicopter that brought in the medical team can take out a dozen people at a time, too small to make a dent in the numbers, but enough to inspire desperation in those near enough to try and board.

* OR...

There is one road down the mountain, which thousands have now taken, guarded by the one efficient force in the area, the Syrian Kurdish YPG, which is escorting people across that border and then through the territory it controls back into Iraqi Kurdistan. But to make that journey, you need access to a car.

Islamic State has managed to carve out a self-declared caliphate across Syria and Iraq following a series of military victories which have been aided by the group's self-declared willingness to behead captives and conduct mass executions.

The U.S., Britain and France have all responded by sending aid supplies, some via air drops to Mount Sinar, while President Barack Obama has authorized air strikes to help the Kurdish forces drive the jihadists back.
