Barker's Newsbites: Monday, Sept. 19, 2011

Well, kids... back to the ol' grindstone!

President Obama is a dangerous incompetent. (I know I'm not telling any of you anything you don't already know...)

I just thank God he's too stupid, shortsighted, and selfish to make a deal with HRC whereby he would bow out of a 2012 re-election bid in favor of her heading a new ticket with the deal being that she'd run with the option of seeking re-election should she win and in return she'd back him in his future race for a non-consecutive second term down the road.

Seriously, folks... all of us need to
THANK GOD that none of the major Dem players would ever put even their ass-backwards concept of "country first" over short-term misperceived self-interest!

You wanna fix the economy...? Here's what you do - in no particular order:

* Reform trade policy along the lines of direct national interest. Where "free" trade works best for the American worker and thus ultimately for American consumers and American interests, then follow the dictates of "free" trade; where using tariffs to "protect" our workers, our citizens, and our national standing and status are the pathway to prosperity, then by all means raise tariff barriers as high as need be!

America First, Folks... America First...!!!

* Lesson the power and scope of the federal government. Return to the pre-New Deal era Constitution - the Constitution our Founders gave us!

* Put the federal government on a diet; decide what a reasonable split is of the tax pie between localities and states vs. the federal government. It seems to me that if we start at the beginning - with the 100% figure - the federal government should have no claim on more than 49.9% of that and since government as a whole (local, county, city, state, federal) shouldn't have a claim on more than 49.9% of the "whole pie" this logically means that this equates to the federal government have no claim whatsoever to more than 24.9% of an individual's income/wealth.

* Decide the best way - the fairest, most reasonable way of collecting taxes - be it income taxes or consumption taxes - and create the flattest system possible where no one gets away with paying nothing nor do "the rich" pay more than that "fair share" of 24.9%/49.9% previously mentioned.

* Rethink our foreign policy and defense commitments and return to the more reasonable, traditional foreign/defense policies of pre-WW1 American. Enough with being the world's policeman! We must be strong enough to kick anyone's ass be it necessary, but no so belligerent and bossy that we spend more time, blood, and treasure defending our reputation than we do defending our vital national interests!

Again... American First, Folks... America First...!!!

* Return to a strong dollar policy! If that means raising interest rates so be it! Enough with manipulating the currency - destroying the currency - in some fool's errand doomed to fail attempt to "manage" the economy from Washington! Low inflation and high purchasing power must be the goal of our monetary policy. Period!

I could go on and on, but regular readers know my policy preferences. We can save America... even make America great again... but we need to basically reverse course from practically every policy the "elites" in Washington and elsewhere favor.

Calvin Coolidge once rescued this nation from so-called Progressivism...

Ronald Reagan once rescued this nation from so-called Progressivism...

Out with Obama...!!!

Out with Reid...!!!

Either we return the levers of power to sane, responsible, honest, trustworthy, and competent leaders come next November's Election of else we can kiss any hope of saving America to rest.

* THE ONE AND ONLY CONGRESSMAN RON PAUL (R-TX)

In January 2009, the administration claimed that if Congress passed a rush "stimulus" bill, the United States would be saved from economic catastrophe that was threatening to send unemployment figures above 8%.

(*SNORT*) YEP... AND WE ALL KNOW HOW THAT TURNED OUT!

[A Democrat-controlled] Congress passed the bill.

(*SIGH*)

Unemployment continued to go up and has been well over 8% ever since. (In fact, economist John Williams of ShadowStats finds unemployment to be closer to 23% using traditional methodology.) Yet some are claiming the first stimulus worked and all we need to bring back prosperity is more government "stimulus."

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

"Stimulus" might appear to work for some people for a short time. It worked for a short time for Solyndra. For a time, they could pretend to be engaging in productive activities that would help the economy. For a time, unemployment was 1,100 people less. But the recent bankruptcy of Solyndra shows that the government is a terrible venture capitalist.

[Obama's crony capitalism in the form of the Solyndra] charade cost the American people over half a billion dollars they could not afford, yet there is no mea culpa.

The administration is not questioning its calculations, or how they could have been so wrong on their unemployment predictions in the wake of the last stimulus. Instead, they want more money.

* UNFRIGG'NBELIEVEABLE...

Once again we are hearing the cry that if we care about our country, we will approve more spending and more taxes and that will create more jobs. They promise.

(*BANGING MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL*)

* NOW... FOLKS... READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH VERY CAREFULLY...

Yes, you could have gone to the Solyndra factory and you would have seen jobs. What you could not have seen were the productive jobs that were never created. Real venture capitalists make decisions based not on politics and photo opportunities, but on complex economic estimations of risk and reward. They don't simply throw piles of other people's money at a factory and expect magic to happen. The uncreated jobs you can't see might still be around. Instead, we have more government debt which will lead to more inflation and more taxes. These, in addition to an already hostile regulatory environment, only add to the burden and risk of job creation in the private economy.

(*NOD*)

* FOLKS... DR. PAUL IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!

It has been said that when all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail. Our government is full of people who sincerely believe big government and more spending is the answer to every problem. They automatically look to government for every solution. Government is their hammer, and all they know to do is to keep hammering. When government "solutions" still don't solve the problems, they are unfazed. They keep calling for more government, more laws, and more programs.

* AGAIN... ALL TRUE! WE ALL KNOW PEOPLE LIKE THIS...!!! HELL... I MET A RETIRED NASA ENGINEER AT THE PORTLAND B&B MARY AND I STAYED AT AND HE WAS A KRUGMAN FAN!

* AGAIN... UNFRIGG'NBELIEVEABLE...!!!

This government-centric mindset is the root of the problem. People who think this way are naturally drawn to politics and government. To them, the Constitution is an annoying road block, something to get around, or ignore.

(*PURSED LIPS*) (*NOD*)

We must become interested in real, lasting, productive jobs - careers that allow families to build up a solid foundation of prosperity and economic security - not pretend make-work government jobs that waste resources and vanish overnight.

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://www.ajc.com/news/nation-world/obama-admin-reworked-solyndra-1182334.html

* FOLKS... THIS IS FROM THE FRIGG'N ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION - A NEWSPAPER THAT OFTEN MAKES THE NYT APPEAR "FAIR AND BALANCED" IN COMPARISON!

The Obama administration restructured a half-billion dollar federal loan to a troubled solar energy company in such a way that private investors - including a fundraiser for President Barack Obama - moved ahead of taxpayers for repayment in case of a default, government records show.

* FOLKS...!

The Fremont, Calif.-based company was the first renewable-energy company to receive a loan guarantee under a stimulus-law program to encourage "green energy" and was frequently touted by the Obama administration as a model.

Obama visited the company's Silicon Valley headquarters last year, and Vice President Joe Biden spoke by satellite at its groundbreaking.

* ANYTHING FOR A DONOR! (*SMIRK*)

[T]he administration "hurried" Office of Management and Budget officials to finish their review of the loan in time for the September 2009 groundbreaking...

* IN OTHER WORDS, DAMN THE FACTS AND THE RISKS, IT WAS ONLY TAXPAYER MONEY - AND AFTER ALL, IT WAS GOING TO HELP A DONOR!

An Associated Press review of regulatory filings shows that Solyndra was hemorrhaging hundreds of millions of dollars for years before the Obama administration signed off on the original $535 million loan guarantee in September 2009.

* BEFORE...!!! BEFORE...!!! BEFORE...!!!

Republican lawmakers say the decision to restructure the loan raises questions about whether the administration protected political supporters at taxpayers' expense.

* ACTUALLY... THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE MUCH OF A QUESTION; THAT'S APPARENTLY EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

* To be continued...

William R. Barker said...

* CONTINUING... (Part 2 of 2)

Under terms of the February loan restructuring, two private investors - Argonaut Ventures I LLC and Madrone Partners LP - stand to be repaid before the U.S. government if the solar company is liquidated. ... Argonaut is an investment vehicle of the George Kaiser Family Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The foundation is headed by billionaire George Kaiser, a major Obama campaign contributor and a frequent visitor to the White House. Kaiser raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama's 2008 campaign, federal election records show. Kaiser has made at least 16 visits to the president's aides since 2009, according to White House visitor logs.

(*GNASHING MY TEETH*)

* FOLKS...!!!

The AP review also found that officials at Solyndra had been seeking a second round of loans from the Energy Department to expand the company's Silicon Valley headquarters. The request for a second loan was denied.

(*SARCASTIC CLAP-CLAP-CLAP*) AH... BUT ON A SERIOUS NOTE... HAS THE AP BOTHERED TO INVESTIGATE WHETHER THE WHITE HOUSE UNSUCCESSFULLY PRESSURED THE ENERGY DEPARTMENT TO SIGN OFF ON THIS SECOND LOAN REQUEST WHICH WAS ULTIMATELY DENIED? HMM...?!?!

GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann called the Solyndra loan an example of "crony capitalism" that benefited political donors.

* AND SHE'S ABSOLUTELY CORRECT...!!!

Newly released emails show the White House was worried about the likely effect of a default by Solyndra on Obama's re-election campaign. "The optics of a Solyndra default will be bad," an OMB official wrote in a Jan. 31 email to a colleague. "The timing will likely coincide with the 2012 campaign season heating up."

* NICE, HUH?! (*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD IN DISGUST*)

The budget official, whose name is blacked out in the email, wondered whether Solyndra should be allowed to restructure its loan. "Questions will be asked as to why the administration made a bad investment, not just once (which could hopefully be explained as part of the challenge of supporting innovative technologies), but twice (which could easily be portrayed as bad judgment, or worse)," the email says.

* FOLKS... THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN CHICAGO CORRUPTION IS CHICAGO CORRUPTION AMPLIFIED BY PRESIDENTIAL POWER.

Ivar Giaever [is] a 1973 physics Nobel Laureate who resigned last week from the American Physical Society in protest over the group's insistence that evidence of man-made global warming is "incontrovertible."

In an email to the society, Mr. Giaever - who works at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - wrote that "The claim (how can you measure the average temperature of the whole earth for a whole year?) is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me . . . that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this 'warming' period."

(*SMILE*)

Mr. Giaever was an American Physical Society fellow, an honor bestowed on "only half of one percent" of the members, according to a spokesman.

He follows in the footsteps of University of California at Santa Barbara Emeritus Professor of Physics Harold Lewis, a former APS fellow who resigned in 2010, calling global warming "the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist."

(*GRIN*)

Other dissenters include Stanford University physicist and Nobelist Robert B. Laughlin, deceased green revolution icon and Nobelist Norman Borlaug, Princeton physicist William Happer and World Federation of Scientists President Antonino Zichichi.

President Barack Obama said Monday the U.S. Postal Service should be allowed to reduce mail delivery to five-days-a-week to help cut its massive losses.

(*THUMBS UP*)

* OBAMA IS RIGHT.

The Postal Service lost $8.5 billion last year and is facing even more red ink this year as the Internet siphons off large amounts of first-class mail and the weak economy reduces advertising mail.

* I SAY REDUCE DELIVERIES TO EVERY OTHER DAY IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES!

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who has his own postal reform bill in the House, responded that "the president's proposal is not what taxpayers or the Postal Service needs."

* WITH REGARD TO THIS ISSUE, ISSA IS BEING AN ASSHOLE.

Meanwhile, 75 members of Congress led by Reps. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., and Don Young, R-Alaska, called on the independent Postal Regulatory Commission to block the post office's plans to close as many as 3,700 local offices across the country.

* AND APPARENTLY (AS PREVIOUSLY PREDICTED) BEING AN ASSHOLE IS A BIPARTISAN CONDITION.

CBS News has obtained secretly recorded conversations that raise questions as to whether some evidence is being withheld in the murder of a Border Patrol agent.

The conversations refer to a third weapon recovered at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

Court records have previously only mentioned two weapons: Romanian WASR "AK-47 type" assault rifles. Both were allegedly sold to suspects who were under ATF's watch as part of Fast and Furious. (Also, a ballistics report turned over to Congressional investigators only mentions the two WASR rifles.)

* AGAIN, FOLKS... (TO REITERATE):

The conversations refer to a third weapon recovered at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

(*PURSED LIPS*)

The tapes have been turned over to Congressional investigators and the Inspector General.

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Law enforcement sources and others close to the Congressional investigation say the Justice Department's Inspector General obtained the audio tapes several months ago as part of its investigation into Fast and Furious.

* SEVERAL MONTHS AGO...?!?!

Then, the sources say for some reason the Inspector General passed the tapes along to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona: a subject in the investigation.

* THEY DID WHAT...?!?!

It's unclear why the Inspector General, who is supposed to investigate independently, would turn over evidence to an entity that is itself under investigation.

(*SMIRK*)

* IT SEEMS THAT WHEN "THE CHICAGO WAY" GOES TO WASHINGTON... (*PAUSE*)... IT ALSO SPREADS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

It's unclear why a weapon would be, in essence, missing from the evidence disclosed at the crime scene under FBI jurisdiction.

Agent MacAllister and Howard (the gun dealer) also discuss various Republicans and Democrats in Congress who are investigating Fast and Furious. They express concern that whistleblower ATF special agent John Dodson has further evidence that could be damaging to the government.

* THE PLOT THICKENS, FOLKS...!
