Barker's Newsbites: Thursday, April 2, 2015

So... today's thought of the day:

California is facing a water crisis. The state has been facing a water crisis. So... what do you do when you have an American state facing a water crisis...? You import millions of Mexicans, Central and South Americans, Asians... basically throw out the welcome mat... and thus create an even worse situation.

Yep. Makes sense. In Amerika 2015 - The Age of Obama - it makes perfect sense.

Proposed Bumper Stickers:

Come to California and... die of thirst!

Screw watering the crops... more welfare for the illegals!

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Anyway... perhaps I get a few newsbites posted today... perhaps not. We'll see. It's just so depressing...

President Barack Obama's choice of Loretta Lynch to be the next U.S. attorney general got a boost on Thursday when Republican Senator Mark Kirk announced his support, possibly providing a crucial 51st vote for the embattled nominee.

* SEE, FOLKS... THERE'S JUST NO TRUSTING THE REPUBLICANS ON ANYTHING. WE'RE IN DEEP SHIT.

Prior to Thursday, four Republicans indicated they would vote for Lynch's nomination, and with Kirk, there potentially would be a majority in the Senate to confirm her.

* FOUR RINOs; NOT FOUR "REPUBLICANS."

* AND WHERE'S MCCONNELL...???

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

If confirmed by the Senate, Lynch would replace retiring Attorney General Eric Holder.

* IF CONFIRMED BY A SENATE CONTROLLED BY REPUBLICANS... I PREDICT VIOLENCE - PERHAPS ASSASSINATIONS - WILL TAKE PLACE. (NOT CALLING FOR THEM... SIMPLY PREDICTING THEM.)

* OH... AND NOTE... THIS IS YAHOO CANADA... (WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? THE MSM DOESN'T WANT MOST FOLKS TO KNOW AND HAVE TIME TO PROTEST?)

Al-Qaida militants traveling in convoys flying black banners captured a major port city in southern Yemen on Thursday, seizing government buildings and freeing inmates from a prison, including a top Saudi-born leader, security officials said.

The fall of Mukalla - the capital of Yemen's largest province, Hadramawt - highlighted how al-Qaida is expanding its foothold in Yemen...

* REMEMBER, FOLKS... OBAMA "GOT BIN LADEN."

(*SMIRK*)

* HEY... FOLKS... IT'S NOT JUST OBAMA... 14 YEARS AFTER 2001 AL-QAIDA IS STILL A FUNCTIONING MILITARY FORCE. OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS ENTIRELY INCOMPETENT. IT'S REALLY JUST THAT SIMPLE.

The al-Qaida fighters also freed about 300 inmates from the city's main prison, including scores of militants, according to security officials. Among those freed was Saudi-born Khaled Batrafi, a senior al-Qaida operative believed to have masterminded past attacks, the officials said. Also freed were 90 death row inmates convicted for a host of criminal offenses, according to activists in the city.

* REMEMBER OBAMA AND HILLARY CHEERING ON THE ARAB SPRING...???

* HOW DO YOU LIKE OBAMA AND HILLARY'S "ARAB SPRING," FOLKS...???

A strikingly high percentage of refugees to the United States use some form of public assistance, according to a government report to Congress.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Annual Report to Congress for FY2013 reveals that nearly 3 in 4 refugees were on food stamps.

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

Additionally, nearly half were on some form of cash assistance...

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

...and more than a half were on medical assistance.

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

More than 20% were on Supplemental Security Income...

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

...more than 22% were in public housing...

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

...and nearly 20% were on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

(*CLAP...CLAP...CLAP*)

The report noted that many households received more than one type of assistance and the data dealt with refugees who arrived in the U.S. between March 1, 2008 to February 28, 2013. ... Overall, according to the report just 50% of refugee households in the five year window were self-sufficient.

* A... FIVE... YEAR... WINDOW...

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

“About 39% lived on a combination of public assistance and earned income; another eight percent received only public assistance.”

http://bigstory.ap.org/article/58447a404ff34413be536de642a38a99/former-atlanta-educators-jailed-test-cheating-scandal

A group of former Atlanta educators convicted in a test cheating scandal were locked up in jail Thursday as they await sentences that could send them to prison for years.

* HMM... I WONDER IF THESE "EDUCATORS" HAVE ANYTHING IN COMMON...

In one of the nation's largest cheating scandals of its kind, the 11 defendants were convicted Wednesday of racketeering for their roles in a scheme to inflate students' scores on standardized exams.

They include teachers, a principal and other administrators, who were accused of falsifying test results to collect bonuses or keep their jobs in the 50,000-student Atlanta public school system.

A 12th defendant, a teacher, was acquitted of all charges by the jury.

The racketeering charges carry up to 20 years in prison. The convicted former educators are set to be sentenced later this month.

"This is a huge story and absolutely the biggest development in American education law since forever," University of Georgia law professor Ron Carlson said. "It has to send a message to educators here and broadly across the nation. Playing with student test scores is very, very dangerous business."

A state investigation found that as far back as 2005, educators fed answers to students or erased and changed answers on tests after they were turned in. Evidence of cheating was found in 44 schools with nearly 180 educators involved, and teachers who tried to report it were threatened with retaliation.

* AGAIN... I WONDER... ANY... er... COMMONALITIES...???

Similar cheating scandals have erupted in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Nevada and other public school systems around the country in recent years, as officials link scores to school funding and staff bonuses and vow to close schools that perform poorly.

Thirty-five Atlanta educators in all were indicted in 2013 on charges including racketeering, making false statements and theft. Many pleaded guilty, and some testified at the trial.

Former Atlanta School Superintendent Beverly Hall was among those charged but never went to trial, saying she was too sick. She died a month ago of breast cancer.

Over objections from the defendants' attorneys, Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter ordered all but one of those convicted immediately jailed while they await sentencing. They were led out of court in handcuffs.

* GO, JERRY, GO! NICE...!!!

"They are convicted felons as far as I'm concerned," Baxter said, later adding, "They have made their bed and they're going to have to lie in it."

The only one allowed to remain free on bail was teacher Shani Robinson, because she is expected to give birth soon.

Hall served as superintendent for more than a decade, which is rare for a big-city school chief. She was named Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators in 2009...

(*SNORT*)

...and credited with raising student test scores and graduation rates, particularly among the district's poor and minority students.
