Weekend Newsbites: Sat. & Sun., Oct. 4 & 5, 2014

There are two types of Americans...

Those who come to attention and pause whatever they're doing to join in (singing at the top of their lungs) when Don Mcleans's American Pie comes on...

And those who... don't.

The latter should be beaten to death with baseball bats...

Wooden baseball bats...

Made in U.S.A.

And, now... on to newsbiting!

* PAT BUCHANAN

In his U.N. address, President Obama listed a parade of horrors afflicting our world: “Russian aggression in Europe,” “terrorism in Syria and Iraq,” rapes and beheadings by ISIL, al-Qaida, Boko Haram. And, of course...

(*DRUM ROLL*)

...the Ferguson Police Department.

* WHAT A F--KING A--HOLE...

That’s right. The president could not speak of war, terrorism and genocide without dragging in the incident in a St. Louis suburb where a white cop shot and killed a black teenager:

“In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri — where a young man was killed, and a community was divided.”

What, other than its racial aspect, can explain why Obama is so hung up on Ferguson? At the Congressional Black Caucus dinner Saturday, he was back stoking the embers.

“Too many young men of color feel targeted by law enforcement, guilty of walking while black or driving while black — judged by stereotypes that fuel fear and resentment and hopelessness.”

Obama is here implying that Michael Brown was profiled, judged “guilty of walking while black,” when shot and killed.

But that is false, and Barack Obama knows it is false.

* F--KING DOUCHE BAG...

Brown had just knocked over a convenience store after collaring the clerk and was walking in the middle of the main street in Ferguson, blocking traffic, when officer Darren Wilson confronted him.

Did Wilson shoot Brown in a racist rage - or did Wilson, face battered and eye socket smashed in a fight with the 290-pound, 6’4″ Brown, empty his gun in self-defense?

* FROM WHAT WE KNOW (OR THINK WE KNOW) BASED UPON THE AVAILABLE EVIDENCE IT'S THE LATTER!

For weeks, a grand jury in St. Louis County has been hearing testimony, trying to sort it out. But by implying the shooting was done for racial reasons, that Brown may have been “targeted” for “walking while black,” Obama is stoking the fires of racial resentment.

* COMMUNITY ORGANIZER... COMMUNITY RABBLE-ROUSER...

Why is he parroting a party line about America that he knows is more myth than truth?

* BECAUSE HE HATES AMERICA; IT'S THAT FRIGGIN' SIMPLE. IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

White cops are not the great lurking danger, nor the leading cause of violent death, of black teenagers and men. That role is fulfilled by other black teenagers and other black men. And the statistics on the ugliest forms of racial violence in America — interracial assaults, rapes, murders — reveal that such crimes are overwhelmingly black-on-white.

* STUFF THAT IN YOUR BONG AND SMOKE IT, MR. PRESIDENT!

Obama said that “young men of color” are too often “judged by stereotypes.” But behind those stereotypes are FBI statistics that show that black males between 16 and 36, two percent of the U.S. population, commit a vastly disproportionate share of all violent crimes. (Where are the stats to sustain Obama’s stereotype of cops?)

And what did the Ferguson police do to deserve to be invoked as exemplars of what is wrong with law enforcement in America, while the Ferguson protesters get a presidential pass?

* OBAMA IS A RACIST. YOU CAN GO ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE "PROF. GATES" INCIDENT! OBAMA IS BLACK FIRST. PERIOD.

Since Michael Brown was shot in early August, rocks and Molotov cocktails have been thrown at Ferguson cops, stores have been looted and smashed, police have been cursed and threatened, and a mob tried to shut down I-70 at rush hour.

* AND WHAT SIDE DOES OBAMA IDENTIFY WITH? (HINT: IT'S NOT THE COPS! NOT THE STORE OWNERS! NOT THE LAW-ABIDING COMMUNITY RESIDENTS!)

Last week, Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson released a video, apologizing to Brown’s parents for their son’s death, and for not moving the teenager’s body from the street for four hours. Unartful, perhaps, yet it seemed sincere. The response: The Ferguson mob cursed the chief and Brown’s father brushed him off saying, “an apology would be when Darren Wilson has handcuffs, [is] processed, and charged with murder.”

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Understandably, this is what Michael Brown’s father wants.

* OH... FUCK YOU TOO, PAT! WHAT BULLSHIT! THE KID WAS A THUG. CHANCES ARE THE FATHER IS AN ANIMAL. IF ANYTHING, THE FATHER AND MOTHER SHOULD BE APOLOGIZING TO OFFICER WILSON!

Saturday night, a Ferguson cop was shot in an incident unrelated to August. But Chief Jackson and State Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson have told the Washington Post their officers have been repeatedly threatened and, since August, have come under gunfire. If a St. Louis officer is wounded or killed in "revenge" for Brown, President Obama will deserve a full share of the moral responsibility.

It is time he started acting like a president of all the people, and dropped this role of outside agitator.

* THREE-PARTER... (Part 1 of 3)

http://online.wsj.com/articles/the-new-bureaucratic-brazenness-1412288561

We’re all used to a certain amount of doublespeak and bureaucratese in government hearings. That’s as old as forever. But in the past year of listening to testimony from government officials, there is something different about the boredom and indifference with which government testifiers skirt, dodge and withhold the truth.

(*PURSED LIPS*)

They don’t seem furtive or defensive...

They are not in the least afraid.

They speak always with a certain carefulness — they're lawyered up — but they have no evident fear of looking evasive. They really don’t care what you think of them. They’re running the show and if you don’t like it, too bad.

(*NOD*)

And all this is a new bureaucratic style on the national level.

(*NOD*)

During Watergate those hauled in and grilled by Congress were nervous. In Iran-Contra, Olllie North was in turn stoic, defiant and unafraid to make an appeal to the public. But commissioners and department heads now — they really think they’re in charge.

They don’t bother to fake anxiety about public opinion.

They care only about personal legal exposure. They do not fear public wrath.

(*SIGH*)

All this became apparent in the past year’s IRS hearings, and was pronounced in Tuesday’s Secret Service hearings.

* WE LIVE IN A PRESIDENTIAL DICTATORSHIP AND THESE MEN AND WOMAN WORK FOR THE PRESIDENT.

* CONTINUING... (Part 2 of 3)

Julia Pierson , the director, did not seem at all preoccupied with what you thought of her. She was impassive, generally unresponsive and unforthcoming. She didn’t bother to show spirit or fiery commitment. She was the lifeless expression of consultant-guided anti-truth.

No question was answered straight and simple. Everything was convoluted and involved extraneous data, so that listeners couldn’t follow the answer and by the end couldn’t remember the question.

I am certain government witnesses do this deliberately — the rounded words, long sentences that collapse, the bureaucratic drone — so reporters will fall asleep and fail to file.

“Mistakes were made.” “Our security plan was not properly executed.” Yes, you could say that of a story in which a nut with a knife burst into the White House and ran around the ceremonial rooms. Ms. Pierson neglected to mention in her testimony the story that would break shortly after she finished: Secret Service agents in Atlanta a few weeks before had allowed on to an elevator carrying the president a private security man, who reportedly jumped around taking pictures and was later found to be carrying a gun.

(Ms. Pierson resigned after bad reviews of her performance. That’s a tragedy in the sense it’s tragic she wasn’t fired.)

But does anybody in the government feel it is necessary to be truthful about anything anymore?

Does anyone in the federal government ever think about concepts like “taxpayers” and “citizens” and their “right to know”?

Everything sounds like propaganda. That will happen when government becomes too huge, too present and all-encompassing.

Everything almost every level of government says now has the terrible, insincere, lying sound of "The Official Line," which no one on the inside, or outside, believes.

The other day, during the big Centers for Disease Control news conference on the Dallas Ebola case, a man from one of the health agencies insisted in burly (and somehow self-satisfied) tones that the nation’s health is his group’s No. 1 priority. And I thought, just like a normal person, “No, your No. 1 priority is to forestall a sense of panic. To do that you’ll say what you need to say. Your second priority, connected to the first, is to assert the excellence and competence of the agency with which you are associated. Your third priority is to keep the public safe.”

Everyone who spoke was very smooth.

“I think ‘handful’ is the right characterization,” said the CDC director to a Wall Street Journal reporter who asked if the sick man had contact with others before he was hospitalized. (That became “up to 100” the next day.)

The officials were relentlessly modern-bureaucratic in their language. They have involved all “stakeholders.”

* CONCLUDING... (Part 3 of 3)

Was the sick man an American or a foreign national? “The individual was here to visit family.” Oh.

* WHICH OF COURSE DOESN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION...

The speaker’s tone implied he’ll tell us more down the road if he decides we can handle it.

What about those who traveled on the same plane as the man, and which flight was it? “Ebola is a virus. It’s easy to kill if you wash your hands,” said CDC chief Thomas Frieden . You are only infectious once you are sick, not before.

* GEEZUS...

Ebola will not, all agreed, produce a full-fledged American epidemic. “We are stopping it in its tracks in this country,” Dr. Frieden said.

That may be true. But nobody thinks it because government doctors and professionals said it. Americans do not have confidence in what The Officials tell them anymore.

They say the only thing you have to fear is personal contact, but they shy away from clearly defining personal contact. They suggest it has to do with bodily fluids, so you immediately think of the man sneezing next to you on the train. They do not want to discuss the man sneezing next to you on the train.

* NO... THEY DON'T.

They did not want to discuss who the sick man was, his nationality, exactly what flight he came in on. They are good to their global masters! Sorry, just reacting like a normal person. There was a persistent sense the professionals had agreed to be chary with information that might alarm America’s peasants and make them violent.

* FOLKS.. VIOLENCE IS THE ONLY SOLUTION.

(*SHRUG*)

We are locked in some loop where the public figure knows what he must pronounce to achieve his agenda, and the public knows what he must pronounce to achieve his agenda, and we all accept what is being said while at the same time everyone sees right through it. The public figure literally says, “Prepare my talking points,” and the public says, “He’s just reading talking points.” It leaves everyone feeling compromised. Public officials gripe they can’t break through the cynicism. They cause the cynicism!

The only people who seem to tell the truth now are the people inside the agencies who become whistleblowers. They call a news organization, get on the phone with a congressman’s staff. That’s basically how the Veterans Affairs and Secret Service scandals broke: Desperate people who couldn’t take the corruption dropped a dime.

What does it say about a great nation when its most reliable truth tellers are desperate people?

Sometimes it looks as if everyone in public life is in showbiz, only showbiz with impermeable employee protections. Lois Lerner of IRS fame planted the question, told the lie, took the Fifth, lost the emails and stonewalled. Her punishment for all this was a $100,000-a-year pension for the rest of her life.

(I wonder what the Secret Service head’s pension will be?)

A nation can’t continue to be vibrant and healthy when the government controls more and more, and yet no one trusts a thing the government says.

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://dailysignal.com/2014/09/28/new-deal-end-great-depression/?utm_source=heritagefoundation&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=saturday&mkt_tok=3RkMMJWWfF9wsRonsqXJZKXonjHpfsX56%2BorWa6zlMI%2F0ER3fOvrPUfGjI4DRMdgI%2BSLDwEYGJlv6SgFQrLBMa1ozrgOWxU%3D

My seventh-grade son recently wrote a U.S. History paper extolling the virtues of President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal.

“It ended the Great Depression,” he wrote with great certainty.

He’s only 12 and parroting what the history texts and his teachers told him.

That’s his excuse... what’s Ken Burns’?

Mr. Burns’ docudrama on the Roosevelts — for those who weren’t bored to tears — repeats nearly all the worn-out fairy tales of the FDR presidency, including what I call the most enduring myth of the 20th century, which is that FDR’s avalanche of alphabet-soup government programs ended the Great Depression.

(Shouldn’t there be a statute of limitations on such lies?)

Ask nearly anyone over the age of 80, and they will say that FDR cared about the working man and “gave the country hope,” a point that Mr. Burns emphasizes.

* ROOSEVELT HAD 12 YEARS TO PROPAGHADIZE THE AMERICA PEOPLE - FOUR OF THOSE WARTIME YEARS; FOLLOWED BY A FELLOW DEMOCRAT IN THE WHITE HOUSE THRU 1952. (ALWAYS REMEMBER, FOLKS, IT'S THE VICTORS WHO WRITE THE HISTORY BOOKS!)

Roosevelt exuded empathy, which isn’t a bad thing — remember Bill Clinton’s memorable line “I feel your pain”? — but caring doesn’t create jobs or lift gross domestic product.

Nor does spending government money revive growth, despite the theories put into practice by the then-dean of all economists, John Maynard Keynes.

Any objective analysis of these facts can lead to no other conclusion.

* YEP...

U.S. unemployment averaged a rate of 18% during Roosevelt’s first eight years in office.

In the decade of the 1930s, U.S. industrial production and national income fell by about almost one-third.

In 1940, after year eight years of the New Deal, unemployment was still averaged 14%.

(*SIGH*)

Almost everything FDR did to jump-start growth retarded it.

The rise in the minimum wage kept unemployment intolerably high.

(Are you listening, Nancy Pelosi?)

Roosevelt’s work programs like the Works Progress Administration, National Recovery Administration and the Agricultural Adjustment Administration were so bureaucratic as to have minimal impact on jobs.

Raising tax rates to nearly 80% on the rich stalled the economy. Social Security is and always was from the start a Madoff-style Ponzi scheme that will eventually sink into bankruptcy unless reformed. The cruel irony of the New Deal is that the liberals’ honorable intentions to help the poor and the unemployed caused more human suffering than any other set of ideas in the past century.

(*SILENTLY NODDING*)

The most alarming story of economic ignorance surrounding this New Deal era was the tax increases while the economy was faltering. According to economist Burt Folsom, FDR signed one of the most financially devastating taxes: “On April 27, 1942, he signed an executive order taxing all personal income above $25,000 [rich back then] at 100%. Congress balked at that idea and later lowered it to 90% at the top level.” The New Dealers completely ignored the lessons of the 1920s tax cuts, which just a decade before had unfurled an age of super-growth.

* FOLKS... JUST BEAR IN MIND... THESE FIGURES... THEY'RE LARGELY IMAGINARY. WHAT WITH TAX LOOPHOLES... THE UNDERGROUND ECONOMY...

(*SHRUG*)

* IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE KENNEDY FORTURE GREW UNDER SUPPOSEDLY 90% TAXATION...

(*SMIRK*)

Then there was the spending and debt barrage. Federal spending catapulted from $4.65 billion in 1933 to nearly $13.7 billion in 1941. This tripling of the federal budget in just eight years came at a time of almost no inflation (just 13.1% cumulative during that period).

* THIS IS TRUE! (MEANING... IF YOU HAD A JOB... YOU WERE DOING OK!)

Budget surpluses during the prosperous Coolidge years became ever-larger deficits under FDR’s fiscal reign. During his first term, more than half the federal budget on average came from borrowed money.

(The cruel irony of the New Deal is that the liberals’ honorable intentions to help the poor and the unemployed caused more human suffering than any other set of ideas in the past century.)

What is maddening is that thanks to this historical fabrication of FDR’s presidency, dutifully repeated by Mr. Burns, we have repeated the mistakes again and again. Had the history books been properly written, it’s quite possible we would never had to endure the catastrophic failure of Obamanomics and the “stimulus plans” that only stimulated debt.

(The entire rationale for the Obama economic plan in 2009 was to re-create new New Deal.)

* AND IN LARGE PART HE HAS RE-CREATED THE DISASTERS OF THE NEW DEAL... AND TO THEM ADDED INFLATION.

(WHAT'S NEXT - WW-3...???)

Doubly amazing is that at this very moment, the Left is writing another fabricated history — of the years we have just lived through. The history books are already painting Obama policies as the just-in-time emergency policies that prevented a Second Great Depression.

Vice President Joe Biden...

* ONE OF THE DUMBEST MEN ON EARTH...

...apologized to the United Arab Emirates Sunday for charging that the oil-rich ally had been supporting al Qaida and other jihadi groups in Syria's internal war, his second apology in as many days to a key participant in the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State extremists.

Biden was answering questions at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Thursday when he veered off the official talking points...

* FOLKS. COULD THE PLAN BE TO JETISON JOE AND BRING IN... EITHER AN OBAMA ALLY AND RIVAL TO HILLARY... OR... HILLARY HERSELF... SO AS TO GIVE HER A LEG UP VIA THE STANDING OF HER OFFICE FOR HER BATTLE FOR THE PRESIDENCY?

Biden raised ire in Turkey by [supposedly] quoting from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during their meeting during the U.N. General Assembly. “President Erdogan told me, ‘You were right. We let too many people through. So we’re trying to seal the border,’” Biden quoted him as saying. Erdogan retorted that Turkey had not provided “even the smallest amount of support” to any terrorist organization. As for his reputed confession, he said: “I never admitted any mistake, nor did we tell them that they 'were right' during my visit to the U.S.” And he said if Biden didn’t apologize, “then he will be history for me.”

* HOW LOW WE'VE SUNK... HOW LOW THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS SUNK OUR PRESTIGE.
