More than 700 infants at an El Paso, Texas hospital have been exposed to tuberculosis by an employee infected with the disease, according to public health officials.

The city’s Department of Public Health says the infants along with about 40 employees at Providence Memorial Hospital were exposed.

Officials say they were exposed from September 2013 to August. The employee worked in the hospital’s nursery.

* A NURSE? A DOCTOR? A CLEANER? A CONTRACT EMPLOYEE?

Officials said employment and medical records were reviewed to determine which infants and employees were exposed.

Dr. Hector Ocaranza, the health authority for El Paso County, says the hospital workers have been tested and officials are waiting on results. Letters were sent Thursday to the parents of the infants directing them to undergo screenings.

* I WONDER HOW LONG THEY SAT ON THIS... HOW LONG THEY'VE ACTUALLY KNOWN...

Ocaranza says TB is treatable and the exposure doesn’t represent a public health threat.

The CDC warns that tuberculosis, if not treated properly, can be fatal.

The El Paso Department of Public Health setup a website to provide updated information to the community, including a detailed calendar of potential exposure dates.

Following this clarion call, 71 House Republicans bolted to join 85 Democrats in voting no to U.S. funds to train and arm Syrian rebels.

* GOD BLESS THOS 71 REPUBLICANS AND 85 DEMOCRATS!

Why the hesitation? Because our strategy in Syria is to rely on a Free Syrian Army that has been the least effective force in that civil war, and untrustworthy to boot. Units of the FSA have handed their U.S. weapons over to ISIS.

Yet these “feckless” rebels, says Sen. Bob Corker, constitute “our entire ground game.”

* PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT CORKER DOES... NOT JUST TO WHAT HE SAYS... (BUT WHAT HE'S SAYING IS TRUE! AT LEAST THE ABOVE LINE!)

John McCain raises a second issue.

* JOHN MCCAIN IS ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON. HE'S A MORON. A DANGEROUS MORON.

The FSA came into being to overthrow Bashar Assad. Now they are to be retrained to fight ISIS. How effective will the FSA be when told to change sides and become de facto allies of the dictator against whom they took up arms?

Projections are that it will take a year before we can set up and run camps in Saudi Arabia, vet volunteers, train, equip, and arm rebels, and send 5,000 fighters into battle in Syria.

* FOLKS... WE KNOW WE SUCK AT "VETTING." AND THE LAST TIME WE BASED TROOPS IN SAUDI ARABIA 9/11 WAS THE RESULT!

* WILL... THEY... NEVER... LEARN...?

The United States will then be ensuring that a three-year civil war that has caused millions of refugees and cost 190,000 lives — soldiers, rebels, jihadists, and civilians alike — will go on indefinitely.

* WHICH WOULD BE FINE AS LONG AS WE WEREN'T PUTTING OUR OWN TROOPS AT RISK AND SQUANDERING BORROWED MONEY! LET THE ANIMALS KILL ONE ANOTHER! PROTECT THE OIL FIELDS AND OIL EXPORT INFRASTRUCTURE... THAT'S ALL!

Where is the morality in a superpower decision to arm Syrians and send them into a war they cannot win, so few in number are they, but where they can keep bleeding 5,000 lives a month of their countrymen? Can St. Augustine’s theory of a just war be reconciled with such programmed slaughter with no end in sight?

* WASN'T THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR AMERICA WHEN IRAQ AND IRAN WERE AT WAR...??? (RHETORICAL QUESTION - THE ANSWER IS "YES!" INDEED... "HELL YES!")

There are other reasons why many in Congress are reluctant to vote funds to train and arm Syrian rebels. First, as the president has said, it is still “somebody else’s civil war.” Second, the White House has not advanced a credible war plan. Third, our commander in chief is not a war leader. And, again, this FSA upon which McCarthy’s victory hangs is not even the JV.

Brushing aside these concerns is the Wall Street Journal, whose editorial, “The Syria Campaign,” describes how the FSA can emerge victorious.

Does the Journal have in mind another unconstitutional war? So it would seem. For the Journal not only wants bombs falling on ISIS, but on Assad as well.

Questions arise: Does the Journal believe Barack Obama needs Congressional authorization before going to war against Syria, which has neither attacked nor threatened us, but instead has expressed a willingness to work with us to destroy ISIS?

Does the Journal believe Hezbollah and Iran, which have expended blood and treasure sustaining their ally Assad in his civil war, will sit still and watch us bomb him? Will Putin do nothing as we bomb his ally? Or will Hezbollah target Americans in Lebanon while Iran orders the anti-American Shia militias, the most effective fighters now behind the Baghdad government, to start attacking Americans in Iraq?

Before we went back into the Iraq war, we were told ISIS had 15,000 fighters. Now there are estimates of 30,000. Are we again creating more enemies than we are killing?

A second deployment of United States troops arrived in Liberia on Sunday as part of an eventual mission of 3,000 soldiers helping its beleaguered health services battle the Ebola outbreak.

* SOLDIERS. AMERICAN SOLDIERS. IT MAKES NO SENSE.

The contingent will be focused on training local health workers...

* SHOULDN'T HEALTH WORKERS BE TRAINING THEM...???

...and setting up facilities to help Liberia and its neighbours halt the spread of the epidemic, which has left more than 2,600 dead across west Africa.

* SHOULDN'T LOCAL CARPENTERS AND OTHER LOCAL TRADESMEN BE DOING THE BUILDING...?

"Some American troops came soon this morning. They arrived with tactical jeeps," a source at Roberts international airport, near Monrovia, told AFP.

The source was unable to give the size of the unit, which arrived in one aircraft, but the U.S. has already announced it was planning to send 45 troops over the weekend.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby told reporters on Friday a C-17 aircraft with equipment and seven service members landed in Liberia on Thursday, with two more cargo planes due to follow.

The small team will set up a headquarters for Major General Darryl Williams, who will oversee the U.S. mission to train local health workers and establish additional medical facilities, he said.

Military engineers are due to build new Ebola treatment centres in affected areas, Washington said last week, while U.S. officials will help recruit medical personnel to work at the units.

The Pentagon has said the troops will have no direct contact with patients.

* THE PENTAGON IS NOT KNOWN AS A BEACON OF FORTHRIGHT HONESTY!

President Barack Obama unveiled the troop deployment to west Africa last week, issuing an international call to action to prevent the virus from spreading "exponentially".

* AND SO FAR WHO (WHAT COUNTRIES) HAVE ANSWERED THIS "CALL?"

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has welcomed the U.S. mission and said she hoped Washington's move would prompt other countries to provide more support to address the epidemic.

* WHO THE FUCK CARES...?!?! SEND MICHELLE OVER THERE! SEND THE OBAMA GIRLS OVER THERE! SEND BIDEN OVER THERE! LET THE PRESIDENT GO OVER THERE HIMSELF! SEND HOUSE MEMBERS AND SENATORS WHO VOTED FOR THE FUNDING THERE!

The U.N. Security Council has called the virus a threat to world peace.

* AGAIN... WHO THE FUCK CARES?!?!

The fever it unleashes can kill victims within days, causing severe muscle pain, weakness, vomiting and diarrhea - in many cases shutting down organs and causing unstoppable bleeding.

Vice President Joe Biden spent the weekend in Aspen at a private equity conference.

That's a fact the White House tried to downplay.

* SCUMBAGS...

This is his how Biden's official public schedule read: Saturday, September 20, 2014 - On Saturday, the Vice President will attend a private conference in Aspen. This event is closed press.

But Biden's presence at the private equity conference was picked up by local press.

"Vice President Joe Biden is in town through this evening for an event sponsored by the private equity firm Forstmann Little & Co.," reports aspendailynews.com.

The 2012 Barack Obama re-election campaign made an issue of Mitt Romney's work in private equity. So perhaps that's one reason the White House didn't publicly announce the vice president's attendance.

* AND...

It does not appear a pool reporter from the White House press corps was along with the vice president for his trip.
