Fake driver’s licenses are flooding our market and could pose a real threat.
Chicago's Channel 2 (CBS) Investigator Dave Savini reports these bogus licenses are being produced overseas and sold online.
State and federal officials say they want to shut down the sales of them.
They are incredible fakes. Smuggled into this country by high-tech forgery rings that have mastered the details so well, they could lead to critical security threats. Each license costs about $150.
They’re smuggled inside boxes of tea sets and jewelry from China; one intercepted batch was headed to a group of 20 students at the same college.
One concern if the potential homeland security issue.
Instead of a generic hologram, they are imitating our actual holograms.
The question is: Is it good enough to get you on an airplane? It is hard to know because the fakes are that good, say experts. However, the Secretary of State’s Office says the fakes have failed the laser and ultra-violet light tests.

The army base in Iraq’s western Anbar province had been under siege by Islamic State militants for a week, so when a convoy of armored Humvees rolled up at the gate, the Iraqi soldiers at Camp Saqlawiyah believed saviors had arrived.
But this was no rescue attempt.

If the survivors’ accounts are correct, it would make Sunday the most disastrous day for the [American trained] Iraqi army since several divisions collapsed in the wake of the Islamic State’s capture of the northern city of Mosul amid its cross-country sweep in June.

The lead-up to Sunday’s crisis began a week ago, when the last road to Camp Saqlawiyah, just north of insurgent-controlled Fallujah, was cut by Islamic State militants. One of two tanks that were among the vehicles guarding the road left to refuel, and the militants took the opportunity to attack those that remained, said a 9th Division soldier who was present and spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the news media.
The fall of the units protecting the supply route meant that the five battalions inside the base were completely besieged.
“There were no reinforcements, no food supplies, no medicine, no water, and then our ammunition began to run out,” said 1st Lt. Haider Majid, 28. “We called our leaders so many times. We called our commanders, we called members of parliament, but they just left us there to die.”

Natural, wind-driven climate patterns in the Pacific Ocean, such as El Niño and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, are already known to exert a powerful influence on sea and land temperatures over years and even decades.
This latest research shows that similar changes in atmospheric and ocean circulation can drive trends that last a century or longer, overshadowing the effects of human-generated increase in greenhouse gases, the study's authors said.
"Changing winds appear to explain a very large fraction of the warming from year to year, decade to decade and the long-term," said study leader James Johnstone, an independent climatologist who did most of the work when he was at the University of Washington's Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean.

The Obama administration has dragged its feet on revoking ObamaCare coverage for people who can’t prove U.S. citizenship or legal residency, allowing some of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. to continue enjoying taxpayer-funded benefits, Sen. David Vitter, a Republican senator, charged Monday.
“The Obama administration is bending over backwards to give ObamaCare to illegal immigrants but won’t protect hardworking American citizens who are losing their health care coverage.”
“The Obama administration has been granting deadline extensions, making excuses and turning a blind eye to falsified documents by illegal immigrants,” Vitter continued; “enough is enough, and they need to provide answers to why they think illegal immigrants should be eligible for ObamaCare.”
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which oversees the health care program, disputed Mr. Vitter’s claims.

But the administration’s effort to verify immigration status of applicants for the law’s state-based health insurance exchanges has lasted well beyond the March 31 deadline to sign up for coverage.

In a letter to CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner, Mr. Vitter demanded answers about how the agency verifies immigration status and what steps are taken to force illegal immigrants to repay the government.

He questioned the agency’s failure to set a firm date for sending cancellation notices to those who fail to produce immigration or residency documents by the established Sept. 5 deadline and the special 60-day extended enrollment period for those who miss the deadline.

The senator said the vast number of people who managed to enroll and receive benefits despite lacking immigration or residency documents points to a larger problem in the system.
“It is critical as the administration moves forward into ObamaCare's second enrollment period that CMS dramatically improves the verification process in determining eligibility for taxpayer-funded subsidies,” he wrote to CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner.
“Last year was nothing short of a disaster, and as a result, the administration continues to bend the rules for people who did not comply with the law in the first place, with an exorbitant cost to the U.S. taxpayer."

Federal health insurance officials can't tell Congress how much the government has spent since 2010 selling ObamaCare to a key segment of the market, according to the Government Accountability Office.

The accounting system used by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid, which manages ObamaCare, doesn't track "expenditure totals for CCIIO-related polling, focus groups, or advertising and other public relations activities," GAO said in a report made public Monday.

The CCIIO is the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, which is part of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid. It's main focus is overseeing implementation of the ObamaCare provisions that apply to the private health insurance market and the health insurance exchanges created by the program.
Federal officials were also unable to say if they have enough employees to carry out CCIIO's duties under ObamaCare because, GAO said, "the staff reassignment information provided to GAO was not complete, was not supported by documentary evidence, and could not be verified."

The only verifiable data GAO said CMS could provide was "CMS's estimates for total obligations for fiscal year 2014, which was $3.7 billion; the number of staff as of September 30, 2013, which was 347; and total salary expenditures from March 2010 through fiscal year 2013, which were $79.8 million." Otherwise, GAO said, the inability of CMS to provide credible data on what CCIIO is doing in a timely fashion means "Congress and other decision makers may not have access to timely and reliable CCIIO-related information that they may need to make resource allocation decisions and assessments of program performance."
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the GAO report demonstrates that "the Obama administration has tried to hide the ball from Congress on just how much it is spending on the health care law."
