Happy Friday the Thirteenth, folks!
The country - and indeed the world (or at least specifically America's position within the international community) - continues upon its slow collapse...
(Well... not so slow; it actually started during Bush's second term; but anyone who can't - or won't - see that Obama's policies have both accelerated and deepened the decline clearly just doesn't want to!)
But, hey... I'm alright! Perhaps you're alright as well! Mozel Tov! Screw the country... screw the world... screw our own kids and grandkids... let's all poke our heads into the sand and ignore the Big Picture!
Hey... on the bright side... my buddy's kid just graduated from Harvard! He's never done anything but been a student... but he's walking into a six-figure "management consultant" gig. He's gonna have to really, really, really try in order to screw up his life... but assuming he doesn't, his rise is pretty much assured. Indeed, I'll wager right now that HIS kids will themselves ascend to "the ruling class" in due time. (What the country will look like at that point, however... my guess is that for most Americans... assuming America exists in 40-50 years... life will be pretty bleak.)
I know folks don't see it. History repeats itself. I'm sure the Romans of 400 AD didn't foresee the sack of Rome a short ten years later.
(At this point I'm going to refrain myself from continuing the Roman tangent; instead, think of Great Britain... the British Empire... the Empire over which only 100 years ago the sun never set...)
Heck, folks... Mexico is falling apart! If you're not aware of how bad things are in Mexico it's only because you're ignorant! (No... not necessarily stupid... but ignorant - uninformed... intellectually lazy... broadly incurious...)

Chelsea Clinton "earned" an annual salary of $600,000 at NBC News before switching to a month-to-month contract earlier this year, sources with knowledge of the agreement told POLITICO.
* SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR... FOR WHAT...? FOR HOW MANY HOURS OF "WORK?"
Clinton, who joined NBC News as a special correspondent in November 2011, was up for renewal or non-renewal this year. Instead, the sources said, the network decided to keep her on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary Clinton, runs for president.
* AND WHAT'S HER MONTHLY SALARY...? ($600,000/YR. EQUATES TO $50,000/MO.)
Kamyl Bazbaz, a spokesperson for the 34-year-old Clinton, referred POLITICO to NBC News, which declined to discuss Clinton’s contract. “We don’t comment on details of existing contracts,” a network spokesperson said. “NBC News continues to enjoy a wonderful working relationship with Chelsea, and we are proud of her work.”

As "special correspondent," Clinton worked on service-related feature assignments for NBC’s “Rock Center with Brian Williams” until the show’s cancellation in June 2013. Clinton has since worked on packages for NBC Nightly News.

In that time, Clinton’s principal occupation has been the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, where she has been a major force in steering her parents’ charitable work in the final years of her mother’s tenure at the State Department, and since. This April, she announced that she is pregnant. Clinton is due to deliver her first child in the fall, and it’s unclear whether she will resume work with NBC after that.
When Clinton joined NBC, many media critics chafed at the network’s decision to employ a former first daughter with no experience in journalism. The New York Post referred to Clinton as “just another spoiled, aimless child of rich, successful parents chauffeured through adulthood by Mommy and Daddy’s connections.”

Yet Clinton’s appointment did not mark the first time NBC Universal had hired children of high-ranking politicians. In 2009, it hired George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush Hager to serve as a correspondent on the “Today” show. In 2011, it hired Sen. John McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain as a contributor on MSNBC.

A new study by researchers at the University of Texas, Austin found that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is collapsing due to geothermal heat, not man-made global warming.
* OOPS!
UTA researchers used radar techniques to map water flows under ice sheets and estimate the rate of ice melt in the glacier. As it turns out, geothermal heat from magma and volcanoes under the glacier is much hotter and covers a much wider area than was previously thought. The geothermal heat under the glaciers is likely a key factor in why the ice sheet is currently collapsing. Before this study, it was assumed that heat flow under the glacier was evenly distributed throughout, but UTA’s study shows this is not the case. Heat levels under the glacier are uneven, with some areas being much hotter than others.
Scientists and environmentalists have been pointing to Antarctica’s collapsing western ice sheet as further evidence the planet is warming.

At the end of May, Antarctic sea ice extent reached the highest level since measurements began in 1979. Sea ice extent reached nearly 13 million square kilometers — 10.3% above the 1981-2010 climatological average of 11.7 million square kilometers. The previous record was 12.7 million square kilometers set in 2010.
Previous studies have also shown that the collapse of the continent’s western ice sheet is nothing new.

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has released two major studies in the last year showing that the thinning south pole ice is nothing new. A BAS study from February found that Antarctica’s Pine Island glacier thinned just as fast 8,000 years ago as it has in recent times — it also was able to reverse the collapse. Another BAS study from last year says western Antarctic thinning is within the “natural range of climate variability” of the last 300 years.

“More dramatic isotopic warming (and cooling) trends occurred in the mid-19th and 18th centuries, suggesting that at present the effect of anthropogenic climate drivers at this location has not exceeded the natural range of climate variability in the context of the past 300 years,” the study said.

Washington, DC – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) issued the following statement regarding the Internal Revenue Service informing the Committee that they have "lost" Lois Lerner emails from a period of January 2009 – April 2011:
Due to a supposed computer crash, the agency only has Lerner emails to and from other IRS employees during this time frame. The IRS claims it cannot produce emails written only to or from Lerner and outside agencies or groups, such as the White House, Treasury, Department of Justice, FEC, or Democrat offices.
The fact that I am just learning about this, over a year into the investigation, is completely unacceptable and now calls into question the credibility of the IRS’s response to Congressional inquiries. There needs to be an immediate investigation and forensic audit by Department of Justice as well as the Inspector General.

Just a short time ago, Commissioner Koskinen promised to produce all Lerner documents.

...we are conveniently left to believe that Lois Lerner acted alone. This failure of the IRS requires the White House, which promised to get to the bottom of this, to do an Administration-wide search and production of any emails to or from Lois Lerner.

The Administration has repeatedly referred us back to the IRS for production of materials. It is clear that is wholly insufficient when it comes to determining the full scope of the violation of taxpayer rights.”
