Barker's Newsbites: Friday, November 8, 2013

One month till vacation... Kim's Indian wedding... crossing the globe!

Oh, yeah... getting excited...!!!

So... random thought:

How is it that when I go to my bank to deposit/cash a check via the ATM my receipt provides not just written details of the transaction... but a picture of the actual check... while when I vote there's no print-out receipt allowing me to check to see that my vote was properly tallied?

Speaking of voting... why do the NYS authorities hate Polish people...?

I mean... they must! While there are signs in English... and signs in Spanish... there are no signs in Polish - though I know for a fact we have a large population of Polish heritage.

No Polish... no German... no Italian, French, or Portuguese; no Mandarin, no Russian...

(*SHRUG*)

Well... you get the idea.

Question: Why do we want people voting who can't speak read English...???

The CBS News program "60 Minutes" has learned of new information that undercuts the account told by Morgan Jones of his actions on the night of the attack on the Benghazi compound.

We are currently looking into this serious matter to determine if he misled us, and if so, we will make a correction.

* I KNOW... I'VE BEEN NEGLECTING BENGHAZI LATELY TO AN EXTENT. FRANKLY, I'VE BEEN WAITING TO SEE HOW THINGS WOULD SHAKE OUT. (AND I'VE ALSO BEEN BUSY LATELY...)

* MEA CULPA!

U6 UNEMPLOYMENT - THE BEST MEASURE OF TRUE UNEMPLOYMENT - UP TWO-TENTHS OF A POINT MONTH TO MONTH; SEPTEMBER 13.6%; OCTOBER 13.8%.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/11/08/720-Americans-Leave-Labor-Force-in-October

On Friday, the Labor Department reported that 720,000 Americans left the labor force.

* IN OCTOBER. THIS IS JUST OCTOBER!

The total number of adults not in the labor force in October rose 935,000 to almost 92 million.

* THE TOTAL RISE IN JUST ONE MONTH!

One out of three adults in neither working nor actively looking for work.

(*PURSED LIPS*)

This exodus pushed the labor force participation rate down to 62.8%, the lowest level since 1978.

* AHH... THE CARTER YEARS REVISITED...

* FOLKS... OBAMA HAS BEEN PRESIDENT FOR ALMOST FIVE YEARS NOW!

* FOLKS... THE DEMS CONTROLLED BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS BOTH DURING BUSH'S LAST TWO YEARS IN OFFICE AND DURING OBAMA'S FIRST TWO YEARS IN OFFICE... AND TO THIS DAY DEMOCRATS CONTROL BOTH THE SENATE AND THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH!

Overall, the jobs report showed employers adding 204,000 jobs in October.

* BUT... (READ ON!)

Almost half of these job gains were in the retail and hospitality sectors.

* AHH... BUT IT GETS WORSE... (READ ON!)

The adult population, however, grew by 213,000, meaning that the better than expected jobs number fell short of keeping pace with population growth.

(*SMIRK*)

In spite of the gain in jobs...

* DON'T FORGET, FOLKS... THESE NUMBERS ARE BEING CONSTANTLY "REVISED." INDEED, HOW OFTEN DO "HAPPY NUMBERS" THAT "SEEM" TO POINT TO "RECOVERY" GET REVISED DOWNWARD? (RHETORICAL QUESTION; THE ANSWER - AS YOU FOLKS SHOULD KNOW - IS "OFTEN!")

[T]he overall number of Americans with a job fell by 735,000, to less than 144 million. Just 58.3% of adults were employed in October.

* CHANT IT WITH ME, FOLKS... O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A!

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2013/11/07/207909/analysis-tens-of-millions-could.html

* AND THIS IS MCCLATCHY, FOLKS, PERHAPS THE MOST PRO-OBAMA WIRE SERVICE; CERTAINLY THE ONE FURTHEST ON THE LEFT ON MOST ISSUES FROM MY EXPERIENCE.

Even as President Barack Obama sold a new health care law in part by assuring Americans they would be able to keep their insurance plans, his administration knew that tens of millions of people actually could lose those their policies.

* WE KNOW THIS.

“If you like your private health insurance plan, you can keep your plan. Period,” Obama said as he pitched the plan, the unqualified promise he made repeatedly.

* YEP... HE LIED. WE KNOW THIS.

Combined, as many as 52 million Americans could lose or have lost old insurance plans.

Some or much of that loss of favored insurance is driven by normal year-to-year changes such as employers changing plans to save money. And many people could end up with better plans. But it is not what the president pledged.

* NOPE! NOT WHAT OBAMA PLEDGED!

Caught in the firestorm of his broken promise, Obama on Thursday apologized.

* ACTUALLY HE DIDN'T... READ CAREFULLY..

“I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me,” he told NBC News Thursday evening. “We’ve got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and we are going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this.”

* NO. HE'S NOT APOLOGIZING! WHAT HE'S SAYING HE'S "SORRY ABOUT" IS THAT "AMERICANS ARE FINDING THEMSELVES IN THIS SITUATION." HE'S NOT SAYING HE CREATED THE SITUATION! HE'S NOT TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THE SITUATION! HE'S SIMPLY "SORRY" THAT "AMERICANS ARE FINDING THEMSELVES IN THIS SITUATION" WHICH DOESN'T QUITE JIBE WITH HIS FORMER "ASSURANCES."

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Obama insisted anew Thursday that the problem is limited to people who buy their own insurance. “We’re talking about 5% of the population who are in what’s called the individual market. They’re out there buying health insurance on their own,” he told NBC.

* MORE LIES! READ ON!

But a closer examination finds that the number of people who have plans changing, or have already changed, could be between 34 million to 52 million. That’s because many employer-provided insurance plans also could change, not just individually purchased insurance plans.

* ONE LIE AFTER ANOTHER... DELAYS AND DECEPTION...

* TO BE CONTINUED...

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

Administration officials decline to say how many employer-sponsored plans could change. But those numbers could be between 23 million to 41 million based on a McClatchy analysis of estimates offered by the Department of Health and Human Services in June 2010.

(*PURSED LIPS*)

Obama aides did acknowledge around the time the law was enacted in 2010 that "some" people could lose their coverage if their plans changed after the law was passed. Those people would in turn receive what the administration described as superior coverage. But in the years since the law’s passage, HHS officials have downplayed that consequence of the hard-fought law.

* DOWNPLAYED... (CUTE...)

Later in June 2010, Sebelius’ department published estimates in the Federal Register that 39% to 69% of employers’ fully insured plans would relinquish the coverage they had prior to the March 2010 passage of the ACA and thus would have to cancel or change policies.

* IN OTHER WORDS, FOLKS, THERE'S SIMPLY NO DOUBT THAT THOSE OF YOU WHO BELIEVED THE PRESIDENT AND THE DEMOCRATIC PUBLIC RELATIONS SCRIPT WERE DELIBERATELY MISLED... FOOLED... LIED TO. (I MEAN, FOLKS... HOW MANY OF YOU WAKE UP EACH MORNING TO BROWSE NEW FEDERAL REGISTER MATERIALS?!)

Already this year, only 36% of employer plans were pre-2010 plans, compared with 56% in 2011, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, a leading health care research organization. That means that millions of people’s plans already had changed or were canceled in the three and a half years since the law was enacted in March 2010.

That doesn’t automatically mean the plans were changed or canceled because of the new law.

* BUT IT'S LIKELY... (*SMIRK*) (HEY... LIKE I SAID... IT'S MCCLATCHY!)

“I think there needs to be great emphasis that plans are not being canceled because of ACA requirements,” said Jon Gabel, a senior fellow at the University of Chicago’s Health Care Research Department. “They’re being canceled because insurers do not want to ‘grandfather’ some plans.”

* YA WANNA BET ON WHETHER THIS GABEL IS A REGISTERED DEM OR REPUBLICAN? WHETHER HE'S LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE? WHETHER HE BACKED OBAMACARE OR NOT?

(*SNORTING WHILE SMIRKING*)

This week, after millions of Americans mostly in the market for individually purchased plans began receiving cancellation notices or price hikes from their insurance companies, Obama added the caveat that people could lose their plans if insurance companies changed the plans.

* NOW HE "ADDS THE CAVEAT...?!?!" NOW...?!?!

“Now, if you have or had one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law and you really like that plan, what we said was you could keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law was passed,” he said, adding the qualifier Monday during a Washington event with supporters.

* "...ADDING THE QUALIFIER." WHAT A FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. WHAT A HUMAN PIECE OF GARBAGE.

Sheesh, spy on a few dozen million Germans and they really get angry.

A new poll by German public television (ARD) indicates that only 35% of Germans still see the United States as a good partner.

* THANK YOU OBAMA!

That figure has fallen 14 points since just this past July when about half of all Germans saw American as a partner they could trust.

* YEP. YOU AND HILLARY DID A BANG-UP JOB IN YOUR FIRST TERM!

The new poll, done Thursday, also indicates that 61% of Germans now see the United States as an untrustworthy partner.

The poll reflects the deep unhappiness in Germany over the spy scandal, which has seen outrage consistently build from the summer.

The first reports were that a U.S. spy program was collecting phone calls and emails and social media communications of Germans. Last month it was alleged that they‘ve been tapping the personal cell phone of Chancellor Angela Merkel and that the top of the U.S. embassy in Berlin houses a big spy nest.

(*SIGH*)

To Germans, for decades, the United States was not just the ideal partner but an ideal.

The National Security Agency spy scandal appears to have torched that reputation - at a level beyond even that of the Iraq invasion split.

* YEP! AGAIN... NO MATTER HOW BUSH FUCKED UP... THIS FRIGGIN' CLOWN OBAMA SEEMS CAPABLE OF MAKING GEORGE W. BUSH LOOK GOOD IN COMPARISON!

How steep is the slide in German feelings towards the United States? Sixty percent of Germans consider Edward Snowden – former NSA employee and the man who exposed the extent of the American spy program in Germany and elsewhere and now a fugitive in Russia – to be a hero.

* I CONSIDER HIM A "GOOD GUY."

That's right, the man American politicians call a traitor and officials say has done enormous damage to the United States is considered a hero here.

* QUITE A FEW PEOPLE HERE IN AMERICA THINK HE'S MORE HERO THAN VILLEIN!

The upside of [recent polling] might be that the United States is still seen as more trustworthy a partner than Russia, but only just.

http://www.humanevents.com/2013/11/05/memo-to-merkel-tell-obama-to-take-a-hike/

"Chutzpah." I believe that’s the word for it.

Just days after learning the Americans have been tapping her phones and taping her conversations, Angela Merkel has been publicly upbraided by the U.S. Treasury for being a bad global citizen.

(*ROLLING MY EYES*)

What did she do to deserve this?

Merkel just won a third term as chancellor with a record vote and has an approval rating near 80%. But she is a bad global citizen because...

* BECAUSE WHAT...?!?!

[Because] Germany is running the world’s largest trade surplus.

* WELL GOOD FOR THEM! MOZOL TOV!

The Washington Post thinks the Treasury’s tongue-lashing is overdue...

* BECAUSE THEY'RE MORONS...

...as does Paul Krugman of the New York Times: “In this environment, a country that runs a trade surplus is … beggaring its neighbors. It is diverting spending away from their goods and services to its own, and thereby taking away jobs.”

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Is this not astonishing?

* NO! IT'S WHAT I'D EXPECT! AFTER ALL... THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM! THE LUNATICS ARE RUNNING THE LOONEY BIN!

* TO BE CONTINUED...

William R. Barker said...

* CONTINUING... (Part 2 of 3)

Competing successfully in world markets is now tantamount to stealing food off the table of one’s less-competent and less-successful neighbors.

* YEP...

* BUT IF EVERYONE RUNS A DEFICIT... (*HEADACHE*)... (*MINI-STROKE*)... (*BRAIN BLEED*)

By this standard, America was a selfish nation and a rotten global citizen for the first seven decades of the 20th century, when we ran trade surpluses every year, averaging 4% of GDP. From the Civil War through the Roaring ’20s, with a high tariff, we became the mightiest manufacturing power the world had ever seen. Our economic independence enabled us to [initially] stay out of two world wars. And when we did go in, we won within months in 1918, and we won again only a few years after Pearl Harbor.

* THOSE WERE THE DAYS, BABY!

Is this a record to be ashamed of?

* NOPE. INDEED, WE SHOULD GO BACK TO PROTECTIONIST POLICIES! WE SHOULD RE-INDUSTRIALIZE! AMERICA FIRST, BABY...!!!

Every modern nation that has risen to world power has done so through economic nationalism: Britain under the Acts of Navigation; the United States under protectionist Republicans from 1860-1914; Bismarck’s Germany; postwar Japan, which rose from the ashes of 1945 to become the world’s second economy; and China from 1980 to today.

* YEP...

Trade surpluses, run at the expense of rival powers, have been the hallmark of great nations in their rise to preeminence.

* YEP...!!!

Though Germany is smaller than Montana, with a population not a fourth that of the United States, she is the powerhouse of the European Union, makes some of the finest products on earth, and sells abroad one-third of all she produces. Her unemployment rate is only 5%. [I]s that not a record to be admired?

* YES!

The Post and Krugman feel the Germans must shake off their habit of working and saving and start spending to get Club Med countries like Spain and Greece out of intensive care.

(*SNORT*)

The Post wants Merkel to embrace the Social Democrats’ idea of raising the minimum wage to $11.50 an hour, which was too rich even for the mayor of D.C.

The need, says [the U.S.] Treasury, is for “rebalancing.”

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

* TO BE CONTINUED...

William R. Barker said...

* CONCLUDING... (Part 3 of 3)

Basically, what the globalists want is for "prudent" counties with trade surpluses to start running deficits to get money flowing, like transfusions, into the moribund economies.

[But] how has America’s conversion to globalism, since George H.W. Bush proclaimed the coming of the New World Order, worked out for us?

* NOT WELL!

From 1989 to 1993, Bush 1 ran $360 billion in trade deficits in goods, a U.S. record.

* I VOTED FOR PEROT IN '92!

Bill Clinton, who enlisted the Republican establishment to help ratify NAFTA and U.S. membership in a World Trade Organization where the United States has the same vote as Armenia, ran $1.8 trillion in trade deficits.

* NEVER A FAN!

Clinton’s deficits were then dwarfed by George W. Bush’s, who ran up $5.3 trillion in trade deficits in goods.

* AGAIN... NOT A FAN!

In four years and eight months, Obama has piled up trade deficits totaling more than $3 trillion.

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

Thus, during 25 years of free-trade globalism, the United States has run up well over 10 trillion, or ten thousand-billion, dollars in trade deficits in goods. And what do we have to show for it?

* 13.8% U-6 UNEMPLOYMENT.

Our economic independence is history. We rely on foreigners for the necessities of life. We are the greatest debtor nation in history.

* ALL TRUE!

Beijing and Tokyo bank scores of billions in annual interest payments on the T-bills and Treasury bonds they hold. And as the gleaming cities of Asia rise, America’s infrastructure visibly crumbles.

* I'M SORRY... A "TOWER" DOESN'T COUNT AS A "FLOOR." NYC NO LONGER HAS THE TALLEST BUILDING IN THE U.S. - LET ALONE THE WORLD!

The real wages of our working men and women have not risen in decades.

* TRUE!

In the first decade of this century, we lost 6 million manufacturing jobs as 55,000 factories disappeared.

* TRUE!

Why should successful Germans emulate the folly of the failed American politicians responsible for the decline of the greatest republic in the history of mankind?

* THEY SHOULDN'T.
