Barker's Newsbites: Wednesday, February 23, 2011

I woke up with this song playing in my head...

Beautiful. Simply lovely.

Still... Irish music should be played for a crowd!

* SUBTITLE: WHITE PEOPLE BEHAVING BADLY.

* NO... SERIOUSLY... SINCE A MAJORITY OF THESE EPISODES WHICH HAVE CAUGHT MY ATTENTION AND THUS BEEN POSTED HERE AT USUALLY RIGHT "FEATURE" BLACKS AND LATINOS, I FIGURE IT'S ONLY FAIR TO HIGHLIGHT THESE ANIMALS.

(I THINK THEY'RE ALL WHITE...???)

* ANYWAY... HERE'S THE DEAL, THOUGH: THIS ISN'T RANDOM VIOLENCE. THIS IS A BUNCH OF ASSHOLES BEHAVING LIKE ASSHOLES. NOTICE, NO "INNOCENT BYSTANDERS" WERE ATTACKED. THIS WAS CLEARLY A FIGHT BETWEEN TWO "FACTIONS."

ATHENS, Greece (AP) - Young demonstrators hurled rocks and fire bombs at riot police as clashes broke out Wednesday in Athens during a mass rally against austerity measures, part of a general strike that crippled services and public transportation around the country.

* YOU HAVE TO WONDER... HOW FAR AWAY ARE WE FROM THIS...?

* NOTE: I'D RECOMMEND POSTING SNIPERS AND GIVING THEM SHOOT TO KILL AUTHORITY WITH REGARD TO ANYONE ATTEMPTING TO USE A MOLOTOV COCKTAIL. (USE RUBBER BULLETS ON THOSE THROWING ROCKS.)

Police fired tear gas and flash grenades at protesters, blanketing parts of the city center in choking smoke.

* AGAIN, FOLKS... "CITY CENTER" IN THIS CASE REFERS TO ATHENS.

A police officer was attacked and his uniform caught fire in the city's main Syntagma Square, and his motorcycle was burned.

* POLICE SHOULD HAVE DEFENDED THEMSELVES WITH DEADLY FORCE.

The "rally" was part of Greece's first major labor protest this year...

The 24-hour strike halted trains, ferries and most public transport across the country, and led to the cancellation of more than 100 flights at Athens International Airport. The strike also the closed the Acropolis and other major tourist sites.

State hospital doctors, ambulance drivers, pharmacists, lawyers and tax collectors joined school teachers, journalists and thousands of small businesses as more middle-class groups took part in the protest than have in the past. Athens' main shopping district was mostly empty, as many small business owners shuttered their stores.

Unions are angry at the ongoing austerity measures...

* NOPE. WE'RE NOT GREECE. YET.

Sometimes it's necessary to get out on the streets and "get a little bloody," a Massachusetts Democrat said Tuesday in reference to labor battles in Wisconsin.

(*SHRUG*) I JUST PASS ON THE NEWS, FOLKS...

Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass.) fired up a group of union members in Boston with a speech urging them to work down in the trenches to fend off limits to workers' rights like those proposed in Wisconsin.

* HMM...? TRENCHES...? NOW THAT DOESN'T SOUND SO BAD...

(*PAUSE*)

"I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going," Capuano said, according to the Dorchester Reporter. "Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary."

* AHH... GET "BLOODY" IN THE TRENCHES!

Capuano made his remarks before a crowd of union members in Boston, along with other members of the state's congressional delegation.

* WHICH MEMBERS? HAS EACH AND EVERY MEMBER GONE ON THE RECORD DECRYING THEIR COLLEAGUE'S APPARENT CALL FOR - OR AT LEAST SUPPORT OF THE IDEA OF - VIOLENCE?

* "FUNNY" HOW THE REPORTER FAILED TO IDENTIFY THESE DEMOCRATIC "FELLOW TRAVELERS." FUNNY HOW THE EDITOR FAILED TO "NOTICE" THIS LAPSE.

(*SMIRK*)

On Saturday, St. Paul [Minnesota] police say 50 kids swarmed a Holiday [convenience] store on Wabasha, a so-called mob theft or mob robbery. They stormed in together, their numbers overwhelming and just started stealing.

It's the second incident like it in St. Paul in less than six months. Last fall, surveillance cameras at a BP station on Lexington captured some 20 kids coming into the store at the same time. They stole merchandise and one of them assaulted the clerk on the way out.

* LOOK AT THE PHOTOS OF THE "KIDS" BY FOLLOWING THE LINK PROVIDED ABOVE.
