The ranks of the working-age poor climbed to the highest level since the 1960s as the...

* ...AGE OF OBAMA MARCHES ON.

The overall poverty rate climbed to 14.3%, or 43.6 million people, the Census Bureau said Thursday...

* ...AS THE NATION EXPERIENCES THE 46TH STRAIGHT MONTH OF DEMOCRAT CONTROL OF BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS.

The share of Americans without health coverage rose from 15.4% to 16.7%...

* AS MOST OF US WITH INSURANCE FACE SHARPLY HIGHER PREMIUMS AS A RESULT OF OBAMACARE REGULATIONS.

Poverty rose among all race and ethnic groups, but stood at higher levels for blacks and Hispanics. The number of Hispanics in poverty increased from 23.2% to 25.3%...

* AND YET OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS AND MANY RINOs BELIEVE OUR ECONOMY "REQUIRES" EVER-EXPANDING HISPANIC IMMIGRATION TO DO... er... "THOSE JOBS WHICH AMERICANS WON'T DO."

(*SMIRK*)

...for blacks it [poverty] increased from 24.7% to 25.8%.

* YEP! GOTTA "IMPORT" (ILLEGALLY OF COURSE) MORE POOR, UNSKILLED, NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING "WORKERS."

(*SNICKER*)

* YO! BLACK AMERICANS! HISPANIC AMERICANS! THE DEMOCRATS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS! THEY'RE NOT YOUR ALLIES! THEY'RE CERTAINLY NOT YOUR "SAVIORS" AND THEY'RE CERTAINLY NOT WORKING IN YOUR INTERESTS!

The number of whites in poverty rose from 8.6% to 9.4%.

Child poverty rose from 19% to 20.7%.

* HOPE...? CHANGE...? YEAH... YOU GOT YOUR FRIGG'N "CHANGE" ALRIGHT... (*SIGH*)

[T]he official poverty rate...does not factor in non-cash government aid such as tax credits and food stamps, which have surged to record levels in recent months.

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

US foreclosure activity rose in August from the previous month... Overall, foreclosure fillings rose 4.18% in August from the previous month...

In all, 338,836 properties were in the foreclosure process. One in 381 U.S. households received a foreclosure notice in August.

* "RECOVERY FALL" FOLLOWS "RECOVERY SUMMER" APPARENTLY. AIN'T THE AGE OF OBAMA GRAND?!

(*SNORT*) (*SNICKER*)

“There is a buildup in delinquent loans that are not in foreclosure,” said Rick Sharga, senior vice president of RealtyTrac, adding that banks and lenders are slowing the process to avoid a drop in home prices. “It’s a managed slowdown more than anything else,” he said.

“The underlining conditions haven’t improved,” Sharga added, referring to high unemployment and falling home prices in certain markets.

The ten states with the highest foreclosure rates were little changed from the previous month, according to the RealtyTrac report. For the 44th straight month, Nevada had the highest foreclosure rate in the country...

* HEY... WASN'T OBAMA RECENTLY IN NEVADA CAMPAIGNING FOR HARRY REID?

(*CHUCKLE*)

LONDON (AFP) – The price of gold struck an all-time high close to 1,278 dollars an ounce in trading here on Thursday.

Gold hit a record 1,277.90 dollars an ounce at 12:30 pm (1130 GMT) on the London Bullion Market.

It had already reached an all-time high above of almost 1,275 dollars on Tuesday, breaking June's record of 1,265 dollars, as investors sought safety amid an uncertain economic outlook.

Gold is seen as a safe haven investment and also a hedge against inflation.

* THE DOLLAR IS TUMBLING... GOLD IS RISING... ANYONE CARE TO GUESS HOW LONG INFLATION CAN BE HELD BACK?

* AND, YEAH... I'M WELL AWARE THAT I HAD PREDICTED HYPERINFLATION WOULD STRIKE THIS SUMMER. THERE'S A REASON THIS BLOG IS TITLED "USUALLY RIGHT" AS OPPOSED TO "ALWAYS RIGHT."

* THOSE OF YOU WHO SMIRKED AT SARAH PALIN'S USE OF THE TERM "DEATH PANELS" AS RHETORICAL SHORTHAND FOR WHAT OBAMACARE WILL LEAD TO SHOULD ACCESS THE ABOVE LINKED OP-ED BY A REAL LIFE PRESENT DAY CANCER SUFFERER.

* NOTE: IF YOU CAN'T LINK, TRY GOOGLING "GERALDINE SATOSSKY"

[On Tuesday] Washington, D.C. voters [chose] to oust Adrian Fenty, arguably the most successful mayor in the city's history. He lost to City Council President Vincent Gray, who promises to take the district back to the future.

Elected in 2006, Mr. Fenty made progress by managing the city as something more than a patronage machine, appointing competent deputies and holding them accountable for results. His time in office saw homicides drop, public schools on the mend and economic development (sheltered from the national recession by the government boom).

His Achilles' heel was the sort of politics-as-usual that has ruined many cities.

He made a particular enemy in the teachers unions, which campaigned hard against him in retribution for his efforts, with Washington D.C. education chancellor Michelle Rhee, to reform city schools.

Those reforms are already showing results in rising test scores and a new teacher contract that trades merit pay for ending tenure. Ms. Rhee says she couldn't have done this without Mayor Fenty's support, and D.C. children will be the real casualties of this election if she now decides to leave.

Lobbyists all over Washington are privately complaining about getting undue pressure to contribute to House Democrats, who are frantically dialing for dollars to save their House majority. One of those insiders has now made available a fascinating tape showing how at least one member may be stepping over ethical lines in securing money.

BigGovernment.com has opened a window on some of the fundraising tactics being used. Eleanor Holmes Norton, the delegate representing Washington D.C. in the House, called a lobbyist earlier this month and, after not reaching him, left a revealing voice mail. Her voice message notes that the lobbyist had contributed to other members of the Transportation and Infrastructure committee that Ms. Norton is a senior member of and drops hints that she has the power to give or deny favors. "We particularly, uh, need, uh, contributions, particularly those of us who have the seniority and chairmanships and are in a position to raise the funds," she tells the lobbyist.

She then details her role overseeing a large economic development project in Washington D.C. that was financed by stimulus bill spending. Ms. Norton apparently believes the lobbyist has an interest in the project and says she is "frankly surprised" that he hasn't contributed to her in the past.

Ms. Norton's office didn't respond to several requests for comment yesterday, leaving open the question of whether she crossed ethical lines that prohibit members from linking contributions to the performance of their official duties. At least one House member I spoke with says Ms. Norton is in clear violation of House rules and should be hauled up before the Ethics Committee.
