Barker's Newsbites: Thursday, February 12, 2015

So... yesterday morning I'm at the gym peddling away on the stationary bike... watching Fox News as I do so.

(What can I tell ya?! It's better than MSNBC!)

Anyway... one of the Fox morons is interviewing Rand Paul and here's his first "question": "Some people fear you're a reluctant warrior; could that hurt your chances of winning a GOP primary?"

Folks... all I could think of as I was watching this was, "Who in their right mind ISN'T a "reluctant warrior?" Who actually WANTS to go to war... kill others... destroy property... risk death or dismembership oneself?

Now I'm certainly not a pacifist. Hell... I'm even a support of good ol' fashioned VENGEANCE when the circumstances call for it... but a warmonger... nope, not I!

War is a terrible thing. A last resort. Warfare is dangerous and wasteful for all concerned.

To all the warmongers out there - particularly the chickenhawks, but also the "real deals" - the Father of Our Country, George Washington, was not a fan of war. General of the Armies Dwight D. Eisenhower - who kicked Hitler's ass and later became president of the United States - warned us of the military-industrial complex. Ronald Reagan... the Gipper... took what was perhaps the greatest political hit of his life by WITHDRAWING our forces from Lebanon rather than "doubling down" after 241 American servicemen were killed in an attack on our "peacekeeping" barracks.

Folks. Fox News is basically a GOP Establishment mouthpiece. By and large they're "progressive Republicans." Are you better off watching them than MSNBC... than NPR... than CNN... than the broadcast networks...? Sure! But you're still gonna walk away from most segments of Fox News feeling fairly slimy...

(*RUEFUL CHUCKLE*)

Fox News does NOT want Rand Paul to emerge from 2015 as a viable GOP presidential candidate for 2016.

I'll tell you this, though: While of course I have my problems... my differences... with Rand Paul (as I do EVERY candidate to one extent or another), I know that Our Founders would have a favorable opinion of Rand Paul. I know that Ike would. I know that Ronny would.

Folks... view a candidate in part by pondering who the candidate's enemies are.

(*NOD*)

Go to the source to get your facts - to build your opinions.

You can trust me... or not... but one thing is beyond dispute - you can't trust the media. Nope! Not without one hell of a lot of vetting!

Anyway... off to my yearly dermatologist exam... then off to take my lovely and hard-working bride to lunch! See y'all later on... mid to late afternoon. I'll definitely be newsbiting later! Stay tuned!

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://dailysignal.com/2015/02/11/gop-really-serious-stopping-obamas-amnesty-plan/?utm_source=heritagefoundation&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=dailydigest&mkt_tok=3RkMMJWWfF9wsRoiu63OZKXonjHpfsX56%2BorWa6zlMI%2F0ER3fOvrPUfGjI4ESsdrI%2BSLDwEYGJlv6SgFQrLBMa1ozrgOWxU%3D

Are Senate Republicans caving?

* PROBABLY...

* (CAVING TO WHAT...???)

House Republicans successfully passed a bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security, but ensures President Obama’s amnesty, engineered in an executive action in November, won’t be funded.

Senate Republicans have tried three times to bring the bill up for consideration and yes, each time Senate Democrats have filibustered and not allowed the bill to come the floor.

* THEY HAVEN'T FILIBUSTERED ONCE! THEY'VE THREATENED TO. MCCONNELL AUTOMATICALLY BACKED DOWN IN THE FACE OF THE THREAT. IN REALITY... NOT ONCE HAS MCCONNELL TRIED TO BRING THE BILL UP.

And now Senate Republicans appear to be giving up.

* TO REITERATE: MCCONNELL... MUST... DIE...!!!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday, “The next move obviously is up to the House.”

Unfortunately, the only thing “obvious” here is that Senate Republicans don’t appear committed to the fight.

The legislative tactics used by Democrats aren’t exactly surprising. Did McConnell and team not expect them? Why haven’t they developed a “Plan B” instead of suggesting the House, which has already passed the bill, should come up with one?

Republicans are, after all, the majority party in the Senate holding 54 seats, which is just six shy of the 60 needed to break the filibuster.

And shouldn’t the pressure be on Democrats, not on House Republicans?

At least seven Senate Democrats have made public statements in the past three months questioning Obama’s executive amnesty actions. Every public opinion poll shows the majority of Americans are opposed to them as well.

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

Think about this: By refusing to pass the House DHS funding bill, Democrats are literally taking the position that Social Security cards for illegal immigrants are more important than paychecks for border patrol agents.

(*NOD*)

Republicans can’t win that fight? Give... me... a... break...!

If the GOP played tougher they might be able to force some Democrats to break ranks. But instead, McConnell tells us that the Senate is “stuck” and they are wiping their hands of it and tossing the political football back to the House. That is simply unacceptable.

* THE TRUTH IS... MCCONNELL DOESN'T WANT TO STOP OBAMA... HE DOESN'T WANT TO PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION OR AMERICA OR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Conservative voters who put many Republicans in office are rightly expecting more. Does anyone recall hearing a single Republican candidate running for office last fall saying they would only be willing to fight the good fight against Obama’s executive amnesty actions if they had 60 votes in the Senate? No one, including those now in Senate leadership, ever expected to have 60 seats and yet they promised time and again they would do battle if given the majority.

* YEP!

The very way Republicans won a majority last fall, by making their case to the American public, is exactly the same strategy they should be taking up now on the DHS bill. Yet Republicans have allowed this battle to be fought out in the backrooms of Congress – out of sight of all except the most engaged politico.

It’s two weeks before funding runs out for DHS and members of Congress will be at home all of next week for the President’s Day holiday.

* USELESS SCUMBAGS...

With the funding deadline looming and the ability of members to hold town halls and talk to their constituents directly, not through the Washington press corps, what better timing than now to get the public engaged?

(*ANOTHER NOD*)

McConnell and other GOP leaders should stop holding press events outside their Senate conference rooms and take this battle to the public square. Obama’s runs around the Constitution are a serious matter and they deserve the most serious of efforts by those we elected to stop him.

* EITHER SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT, MCCONNELL!

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/report-just-17-black-teens-live-with-parents-54-for-whites-both-low-marks/article/2560151

A comprehensive survey of U.S. Census data finds that the nuclear American family, where both biological parents are at home, is in meltdown, with blacks teens being hit especially hard with less than 2-in-10 15-17-year-olds living with mom and dad.

(*SHRUG*)

For blacks, the survey of Census data showed that black kids typically start out in broken homes, with just 30% of black two-year-olds living with their parents, dropping to 17% at age 17.

* WHAT OF WHITES?

54% of white kids aged 15-17 grew up with their biological family intact, a low point and down from 67% in 1950.

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20150211/us--budget_deficit-503db25ece.html

The federal government ran a bigger deficit in January, pushing the imbalance so far this budget year up 6.2% from the same period a year ago.

* SO MUCH FOR A REPUBLICAN SENATE...

The Treasury Department said Wednesday the deficit for January stood at $17.5 billion compared to $10.3 billion a year ago. For the first four months of the budget year that began in October, the deficit widened to $194.2 billion from $182.8 billion during the same period last year.

Last year's deficit benefited from a $24 billion special payment Freddie Mac made for the support it received during the financial crisis.

* OK... GOOD TO KNOW... BUT I WANT TO SEE AN END TO DEFICIT SPENDING!

The Congressional Budget Office forecasts a deficit of $468 billion for the full 2015 budget year...

* WHICH IS NOT AN END TO DEFICIT SPENDING!!!

For the current budget year, government revenues total $1.05 trillion, an increase of 8.7 percent from the same period a year ago. (Government spending totals $1.24 trillion, up 8.3% over last year.)

* SO... THE OBVIOUS SOLUTION IS TO IMMEDIATELY LOWER SPENDING TO $1.05 TRILLION!

President Barack Obama unveiled last week his new budget proposal, which projects the 2015 deficit to rise to $583 billion, sharply higher than the CBO's latest estimate.

* THUS SHOWING OBAMA TO BE THE KEY PROBLEM HERE...

(*SHRUG*)

Obama's new budget is asking Congress for authorization to spend $4 trillion next year and projects a 2016 deficit of $474 billion.

* AGAIN... OBAMA IS THE PROBLEM!

The CBO is forecasting that without any changes in government policies, the deficit will decline slightly to $467 billion in 2016 but then will start rising and top $1 trillion again in 2025 as spending balloons for Social Security and Medicare.

Al Qaeda fighters overran an army base in Yemen, displaying the group’s strength as the country risked falling deeper into turmoil amid a rocky political transition.

* AH, YES... YEMEN... OBAMA'S GREAT FOREIGN POLICY "SUCCESS."

(*SNORT*)

(*SNICKER*)

The U.S. closed its embassy in Yemen this week, citing deteriorating security, with several European powers following suit a day later.

* THAT'LL TEACH AL QAEDA!

As U.S. personnel evacuated the capital on Wednesday, some left their cars at the VIP entrance of the San’a airport with their keys in the ignition, two airport officials said. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki later said the vehicles were confiscated, and requested their return.

* LAUGH, FOLKS... LAUGH... FOR IS THAT NOT BETTER THAN CRYING... WEEPING... AT HOW LOW OBAMA HAS BROUGHT THIS COUNTRY IN A MERE 6 YEARS?

An examination of ObamaCare data reveals the president’s signature law has mostly been an expansion of the failing Medicaid program.

* YEP! DOUBLING DOWN ON PREVIOUS FAILURE - STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR THIS PRESIDENT!

In fact, the coverage numbers are far worse than the Congressional Budget Office projected in the summer of 2012.

* HOW "SURPRISING!"

(*ROLLING MY EYES*)

According to recent analysis by The Heritage Foundation, ObamaCare's Medicaid expansion is responsible for almost all of the law’s net increase in people with coverage.

Through the first nine months of 2014, the increase in individual market enrollment was 5.8 million people, which was largely offset by the 4.9 million people who lost workplace coverage.

* ONE... MORE... TIME...

... which was largely offset by the 4.9 million people who lost workplace coverage.

(*SIGH*)

The total increase in Medicaid accounted for 89% of the net increase in people with insurance coverage between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2014.

* 9 OUT OF 10... WOO-HOO!

(*SNORT*)

On every coverage dimension, ObamaCare performed worse in 2014 than CBO projected. There are 1.5 million more people on a Medicaid program that provides enrollees with low access to care and poor health outcomes.

* WHILE AT THE SAME TIME...

Five million fewer people are enrolled in private coverage. This includes 3 million more people without workplace coverage and 2 million fewer people enrolled in the individual market than CBO projected back in July 2012.

Given the administration’s diminished expectation of only 9 million to 10 million exchange enrollees in 2015, and CBO’s projection that the drop in workplace coverage will accelerate, ObamaCare is likely to remain mostly an expansion of Medicaid for the foreseeable future.

* FAILURE AFTER FAILURE AFTER FAILURE AFTER FAILURE...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/feb/12/obama-amnesty-creates-loophole-for-illegal-immigra/?page=1

President Obama’s temporary deportation amnesty will make it easier for illegal immigrants to improperly register and vote in elections, state elections officials testified to Congress on Thursday, saying that the driver’s licenses and Social Security numbers they will be granted create a major voting loophole.

* WELL, "DUH!" DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS WASN'T PART OF OBAMA'S REASONING IN ISSUING THE AMNESTY?!

While stressing that it remains illegal for non-citizens to vote, secretaries of state from Ohio and Kansas said they won’t have the tools to sniff out illegal immigrants who register anyway, ignoring stiff penalties to fill out the registration forms that are easily available at shopping malls, motor vehicle bureaus and in curbside registration drives.

Anyone registering to vote attests that he or she is a citizen, but Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted said mass registration drives often aren’t able to give due attention to that part, and so illegal immigrants will still get through.

* AND YET WE'RE CONSTANTLY TOLD BY THE LEFT THAT THERE'S NO (OR EXCEEDINGLY LITTLE) VOTER FRAUD...

Kansas Secretary of State Kris W. Kobach said even some motor vehicle bureau workers automatically ask customers if they want to register to vote, which some non-citizens in the past have cited as their reason for breaking the law to register.

“It’s a guarantee it will happen,” Mr. Kobach said.

* OF COURSE IT IS...!!! AND THE DEMS KNOW IT...!!! THEY COUNT UPON IT...!!!

Democrats disputed that it was an issue at all, saying Mr. Obama’s new policy, which could apply to more than 4 million illegal immigrants, doesn’t change anything in state or federal law.

* SEE!

(*SHRUG*)

Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District of Columbia’s nonvoting member of Congress, accused Republicans of an effort at voter suppression.

(*ROLLING MY EYES*)
